About
Located by the Tankavaara Gold Museum, this holiday resort offers guest rooms and rustic cottages, and free WiFi in public areas. Discover the history of gold in this region through guided gold prospecting trips and gold panning lessons. All options at Tankavaara Gold Village feature a fireplace and private entrance. Bathrooms are shared or private. The Gold Village’s service building has a communal kitchen and a bookable sauna. Old Gold Prospector Restaurant serves high-quality Lappish cuisine based on fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Nearby recreational options include hiking, fishing and cross-country skiing. In winter, the resort’s isolated location, with very few nearby lights, provides an ideal setting for viewing the Northern Lights.

Pros +
- In a strategic position easily reachable, but still well isolated for a quiet stay immersed in nature. Very nice the presence of different very well marked paths for all tastes. Given the distance from other services there is a good restaurant service.
- Staff was kind, but the room wasn't clean. Did not smell too good and there were hair on the blankets.Beds were quite uncomfortable. Didn't enjoy the stay as expected... Sorry
- Comfy rooms and kind staff, we saw the northern lights
Cons -
- The facilities such as bathrooms and shared kitchen are a bit inconvenient in terms of location, especially on a cold night, with only one shower for the men's bathroom.
- Our toilet it's outside but if the toilet wasn't outside we couldn't see the northern lights so you need to request your room without toilet and see the northern lights ?
- The bathroom was horrible. Black mould everywhere.

Comfy Room and the staff it's so kind, great place to see the northern lights

Probably the most beautiful and place I have ever stayed at! My cabin was really cozy and warm, staff was welcoming and I even enjoyed sauna in the evening.Would definitely come back again in spring or summer when I would have more daytime to enjoy nature around.
Great location directly in the nature park.
The bathroom was horrible. Black mould everywhere.
Cottage in the middle of nature! Amazing. We saw auroras 3/4 nights.
Good value for money, well equiped, clean. Staff are helpful and nice to you.
Location is a bit remote. If you are staying in one of the lodges in the winter, you have to walk to a separate building where the bathroom and kitchen are, which is inconvinient in snow and cold.
Charming cottages in the forest near the gold museum. Small but clean. Comfortable mattresses (although not all), large table, fireplace. Shared kitchen fully equipped. Clean bathrooms. You can go to gold panning lessons.
There is a lack of a deckchair/bench on the terrace or in front of the house on sunny days.
Nice appartment. Looks a bit outdated on the outside, but was very cosy and spacious on the inside.
Location, personal. Our cabin was old but decent enough (though matresses old and room was very dark). Possible to use kitchen with pots, pans, dinnerware.
Shared toilet/shower building very out of date. Mens toilet exctreamly dirty.
Interesting activities, friendly staff
We supposed to stay for two nights in July but we run away because of mosquitos. Horrible experience. We could not find another stay quickly, so decided to stay just for one night. Instead of sleeping, we were fighting with mosquitos all night long. They just kept coming and coming to the house. The facility did not provide anything to help. No compensation for the second night.
The location was excellent but the activities promised on the website were not available. Meals in the restaurant were expensive but on the whole the food was good.
The cabin was very small and although there was a fireplace the room was too small to light the fire and the amount of wood supplied was laughable. The size of the bathroom was a joke.
Pleasant
there was different price for the sauna for each night; the cabin needs renovation, it was cold inside the cabin.
Wonderful location 30km before Saariselkä. Very easy to see the Aurora Borealis. Fully equipped apartmant with lots of Nespresso capsules at the guest’s disposal. Convenient beds and great kitchen.
Beautiful corner fireplace inside the room
They only gave a little bit of fire wood and 3 matches to light up the fireplace. Need to buy extra whole bag (no option other option) for the firewood and matches to continue on burning.
Location is ideal and away from light pollution making it great for northern light visibility.
This location has lots of great potential but the staffs/management doesn’t make an attempt to rectify small things and make most of it. Another thing that surprised me is to self clean the room which they didnt mention on their ad. The minimum thing a hotel should have is house keeping and I feel like they don’t one.
The location was beautiful and very remote. We were lucky and got to see the northern lights. The stay would have been tricky without a car. With the car, we were able to get to skiing, food shops and other restaurants within about 30 minutes. There isn't anything in walking distance outside of the compound, but the compound has a cozy restaurant and bar. The fireplace made our cottage very cozy, and the staff was very quick to respond when we had issues with anything. The shower and kitchen were extremely tiny but worked well for our purposes. The staff was friendly and they even did a fireworks show on New Year's Eve. The staff contacted me in advance to see if we wanted to book a husky or reindeer tour, which we did, but only the husky tour was available. It was a great experience for the kids, but should have been stated when booking that kids under 16 are not allowed to drive the husky sled. The kids loved the pool table in the restaurant, which was often available and free of charge. We considered hiring snowshoes but we weren't sure if the kids would manage them and they were a little pricy for a family of four.
The staff at check-in didn't seem to know much about the local area, like where to advise us to pick up food or things to do. The restaurant on-site was reasonably priced but the food was not great and breakfast was basic. Using the sauna seemed awkward as it was not close to our cottage and the booking system was unclear. More information could be provided on arrival about the area and on-site facilities as well as pricing for the extras like wood for the fireplace. Our neighbours were quite loud (just on the other side of the wall) until late at night.
Nice and quiet location. We went there with our two kids, who are 7 and 5, we all had an amazing time !
Nice cottages in the middle of nature and countryside. Nice team and staff in the restaurant/cafe. Everything clean. Good stopover on the way from/back North Lapland.
The "gold town" concept is a bit odd, everything is focused on "gold diggers", guided tours are quite expensive. The cottages are a bit simple and not really well furbished. Everything seems a bit run down but clean. The shared kitchen might be a bit small if many guests would stay. Did not try the shared bathrooms and showers which also looked a bit old.
