    Pros +

    • Superb room with old-world decor.
    • Lovely character rooms, high ceilings
    • Great bed, bath, period furnishing and 5m+ ceiling height. Quiet, despite initial concerns about the location. Slept well.

    Cons -

    • Don't touch any snacks in the room or the coca cola in the fridge - it looks like it's been provided gratuitously as in every other hotel you'll ever stay at, but the next day the staff ring and demand extra payment and call you a 'thief' when you question why there wasn't any indication that payment would be required.
    • Very close to a freight train line so was woken up by train noise 3 times during the night
    • The only complaint I have is, it is next to a rail-line. Two trains went by during the night, but I was not sleeping then. The other isn't about the hotel but one guest. They thought it was fun to slam a door at about 2:15am, waking me up. I tried to get back to sleep but couldn't.

The bed was very comfortable and the room very spacious. Never been in a room with such high ceilings. There was a spa but I didn't use it. It looked inviting though. The room was clean and the furniture was of a style that seemed to transport you into another age/era. Very well thought out and complemented the room perfectly. And luckily they gave me a ground floor room - I didn't ask for it but it is one thing I will have to remember for future bookings - because I had a very heavy suitcase and there is no lift to help you upstairs.

Room and Spa Bath. Decor. Bed Comfort. Charm

Staff sickness meant no breakfast but were not advised by Management until we asked when reception and dinning area were closed half hour after service was due to commence

It broke up a very long journey.

Property is located on an industrial estate and may well have been 4 star perhaps many years ago. Decor was grand but very dated. Based on cost to stay it was still value especially if you are looking to have a sleep to break your journey and not looking for an outstanding town to visit. One positive is if you like a good steak perhaps try The Great Western Opposite. No refinement but the food was great and exceptionally good value.

The building and furniture were lovely.

I booked a room with a spa, but was given a room without one. Reception, who were only available by phone despite being within check-in time, explained that 'it' gave me that room and everything was booked out so i was stuck with it. I had booked months ahead but was not informed about this until it was too late to do anything about it. The staff member made no apology, and offered no refund for the price difference. The room smelled musty, the toilet door didn't close, and the air conditioner was very loud, as were the trains passing by on the street outside the window. We were really looking forward to this place on our drive from Brisbane to Cairns and it turned out to be by far the worst place we stayed at along the trip.

We didn't get to stay as when we tried to check in at 4pm no one was there to help us.

Although the available check in times on booking.com said between 2-5pm when we arrived at 4pm there was no one to check us in and I called the number provided on the booking.com page with no answer. We had to organise another accommodation last minute which was very inconvenient as we had travelled 3 hours with a toddler and hoped to be able to relax instead of stress to find somewhere to stay. They then tried to say that 4pm was afterhours and that we should have called the afterhours number which was not obviously stated anywhere. They almost didn't give us a refund and it took multiple attempts and 2 weeks to finally receive it.

Love the rooms, those spas are fantastic.

No plug for the spa!Bed at a slight angle.

As their is no breakfast cafe close by, the breakfast pack that was in the room worked well.

Very dusty furniture. Toilet seat was loose. The window was unlocked when we entered and I had to stand on a chair to turn the security knob. The window is at ground level and accessible from the street. The olde world charm in the furniture needs a good clean.

Comfortable Bed, clean, nice jacuzzi tub

Could use more or brighter lighting. The dim was lighting was appropriate for old room style, but a dimmable light which could be turned higher for reading would be beneficial.

Beautiful furniture. A very attractive old world room complete with 4 poster bed and 16 ft ceilings.

    9JoPosted on: 5-13-2025

This grand old building did not disappoint. Lovely room too.

Unfortunately we had no towels in the room. A little inconvenient.

    The history

The bed was very soft, lots of dust on the canopy. Staff at the front counter was very friendly or helpful

    7SherylPosted on: 4-29-2025

Lovely period property, ceilings were about 5 m high. Spa bath in the room was a treat.

Could be more clean in the less touched areas, and toiletries could be restocked before each letting.

    7EmmaPosted on: 4-27-2025

4 poster bed, quirky, train track on street just outside, historic

Staff not present / didn’t feel most welcoming

    10SingtothongPosted on: 4-26-2025

Great room, very unique space with just as unique, quality furniture pieces. Very well maintained, a real king bed!

    5RazznscarPosted on: 4-25-2025

    Location, Charm, History.

Smell of the rooms, large stains on the mattress, bed was not level, tea, coffee, milk was not restocked prior to our stay, iron was missing from the room.

    10LouPosted on: 4-24-2025

My room was incredible with a huge four poster bed and spa bath. My stay was comfortable, convenient and very affordable and the service was exactly as it should have been. I'll happily return.

    7TaylahPosted on: 4-20-2025

    The bed was super comfortable

The location wasn’t the greatest, the walls are thin. We heard trains, sirens, drunk people all night. It was okay for a very quick stop over but will probably book elsewhere next time
