Pros +
- The interior common areas are stunning. Staff was great!
- When visiting Morocco, you really should stay in a riad for at least one night. It offers a unique cultural charm and a private, cool oasis within the bustling medina. One challenge, however, is that the medina is largely a pedestrian area, making many riads inaccessible by car and difficult to find — even with Google Maps. We chose this riad mainly because of its ideal location, just a five-minute walk from Batha Square. This riad showcases stunning Moroccan features, including intricate tilework (zellij), carved cedarwood, traditional Moroccan furniture, detailed plasterwork, and a classic inward-facing design. While some areas of Riad El Yacout show noticeable wear, that only adds to its retro character — exactly what a great riad should have. Upon our arrival, Marcos shared interesting history about the riad and added a personal touch to our stay by showing us all its historic features and serving traditional Moroccan breakfasts. Thanks Marcos!
- Very nice property in really great location, staff very helpful and available
Cons -
- The room we stayed in wasn?t great: water takes too long to heat up (wastes a TON of water). Toilet leaked, mattresses were extremely firm / need replacing, bedding could use a refresh as well.
- Note tour groups also stay at the property
- Broken air conditioner, and the way management dealt with the problem.

It is a nice property. We had a simple but serious problem that was mis-handled. During a heat wave, we were given a room with a broken air conditioner. That room should not have been rented in that condition. It was impossible to sleep without using wet towels on your body. We brought this to the hotel’s attention. We were told twice, “it was fixed”. There was no improvement. In the morning, we expected another room, and some sort of discountfor the inconvenience. We did not receive this, so we immediately checked out and went to nearby Riad Palais d’ Hotes and got an AMAZING room for a great price, with great service. Riad Yacout said they contacted Booking.com to refund our money for the 3 unused days. as long as we indeed receive the refund, the case is closed.
Broken air conditioner, and the way management dealt with the problem.
Amazing riad in an excellent location. Staff was exceptional. Breakfast was over the top and do not miss dinner at this Riad….5 star!!!
The history and architecture of the hotel was interesting, with authentic Moroccan art/craftsmanship. The location is pretty decent, close to the old medina.
The room given to us lacked much light, and was poorly ventilated and bad smelling. The bathroom was not well cleaned, with open used soap bottles lying around and old, degraded appliances and fixtures. The toilet did not properly flush; water continuously poured throughout the night. Breakfast was seemingly large but lacking, with cheap bread and dry pancakes and yoghurts brought to the table, without vegetable or meat servings. The coffee mugs and plates were also not clean.Overall, not a good value for money
Very impressing Riad with very friendly and helpful staff! Marcos was always friendly and helpful if we had questions! We can strongly recommend to everyone! And if you like the Band U2 - their video to the song "Magnificent" was recorded in this riad in 2007!
Wonderful riad and people but old infrastructure.
There was some kind of smell in all rooms.
Hospitality, location, hotel lobby decor. We booked the standard double room for 2 nights. First night we stayed in standard double room. Second night they upgraded us to Suit when we complained about the room and bathroom smell.
There was a weird smell in the bathrooms in both the rooms (may be because the property is very old).No mirror in the room (it is a small thing, but saves a lot of time when 2 or more people are sharing the room, don't have to block the bathroom to get ready). Normal Breakfast. Served the burnt omlette. We booked the standard double room and the room was not at all up to the standards of a 4 star property (for the price we paid). It was like 1 or 2 star hotel. I think the whole focus of the management is on hotel lobby and other things, not on the rooms. The pictures on the site for a standard double room does not match the actual. No parking. Parked the car on road, near the Riad and we paid extra for the parking. Not value for money.
★★★★★Our stay at Riad El Yacout in Fez was unforgettable! Upon arrival, an employee kindly helped us locate the parking garage, setting the tone for the amazing hospitality we experienced. The staff here were the kindest and most helpful of our entire Morocco trip. The riad's stunning architecture and rich sense of tradition and history left us in awe—it's no surprise that the band U2 stayed here! Our room was spacious and comfortable. The riad is conveniently located near all the attractions we wanted to visit, and we easily walked to the tannery using Google Maps. Highly recommended for an authentic and welcoming experience in Fez!
We had a bit of trouble with the TV, the staff promptly assisted us.
Extraordinary riad! The core building is stunningly beautiful with many comfortable common areas and private ones, too (e.g., my room and a small sitting area on the balcony outside my doors). The staff were extraordinary -- my sincere thanks to (alphabetically, insofar as I can spell their names -- my apologies if I fail!) Abdul, Eliash, Hadim, Marcos, Nashua, Yeshem, and Zuhir -- not to mention the staff behind the scenes. Breakfasts were generous and tasty; dinner was wonderful; wine was available. Great location, too, for both foot and taxi exploration of Fez. Superb! Highly recommended!
Advance communication could have been better.
Clean, good food, excellent staff and live music.
Location was good, breakfast was ok. The employees were exceptional.
The Riad was perfectly located and free from the hustle and bustle of the Medina that it sat upon the edge of.However, the best thing was the staff. The attention to detail and the attentiveness was exemplary. Nothing was too much trouble from the moment we arrived to the moment we left.
I have nothing to complain about.
The place has been beautifully renovated and has gorgeous common areas. Compared to the average Moroccan hotel, the rooms are large and clean. The guys serving breakfast, helping with the luggage, etc. are very nice.
When you pay almost the equivalent of the average Moroccan monthly salary to spend two nights here you would assume this is a fine establishment that knows how to please guests - however even if most of the staff was lovely to us, the management was unwilling to take any extra steps, the things that would have made the stay memorable. For example, the booking said I would pay at the property and could pay by card, but the manager said I had to pay cash, which forced me to go get a bunch of dirhams from the atm and walk back with way more money than I feel comfortable carrying around the Medina. Then they told us they had made a mistake with the conversion rate and I actually had to give them more money. Another inconvenience. I asked if we could try the steam room in the spa facility without the whole hammam ritual (I don’t like the scrub) since it was raining out and that was a great chance for them to make up for all these inconveniences and be nice allowing that. But no, I could only do their full hammam ritual (450MAD for 30 minutes - very expensive for Fes), which I declined. Any hotel in the US would have thought of offering us something as an apology, they took their money (twice) and forgot about us.
The location is great to visit Fes, very close to the Medina. The suite we got was very spacious and had everything we needed. The staff was also very welcoming and available to support with everything we needed.
Riad El Yacout was fantastic. Upon arrival we were greeted with Moroccan mint tea and made very comfortable. It is a family business and we were greeted by the son of the owner, whose care for Riad El Yacout and passion for customer service was evident. He helped us arrange an English-speaking tour guide (which I highly recommend in Fez) and scheduled a hammam in the in-house spa (also highly recommend). We felt like family and were treated with so much care. Riad El Yacout is a beautiful, comfortable establishment and I hope to be able to return one day!
This is a beautiful riad well worth seeking out. It dates from the 14th century and has been lovingly restored with all modern conveniences. The staff were warm and welcoming and very helpful with advice and tips. Marcos was especially so.The riad is very handy for the Medina and near a taxi rank for the station and new town.Dinner in the courtyard was very atmospheric with excellent food and some fine local musicians.Bedrooms were spacious and we were upgrades to a delightful suite.
Our stay was hugely enjoyable.
Great staff, typical Moroccan style and clean environment
We spent a week in Fes and this Riad is one of the most atmospheric and historic (14th century) we saw. It is a serene and aurhentic experience with truly warm.and welcoming staff. Bed rooms are spaciously opulent and their Hamman is well worth a visit after a day wandering the Medina. Nice one!
Morroco is still a cash based society so don't plan to get by using bank cards.
