Cons -
- Breakfast was underwhelming Buffet selection was poorMy omlette was burntStaff attention and service could have been much betterUnderfloor heating should have been turned on before we arrived to warm the room No adapter for hairdryer, nor could you use the kettle and oil heater at the same time as no dual adapter
- little less rain
- Restaurant didn’t have a kiddies menu. Food was not very kid friendly. Can hear other guests in nearby rooms. Staff didn’t explain much to us. I had to ask for WiFi code. No help with luggage and I was single lady with child.

Good location, pretty gardens, good view from room.

Very comfortable and spacious rooms I stayed with my son and we each had a room to ourself Very cozy as well
The Breakfast had enough options to make for great value. We enjoyed our days exploring the area, and in the evening could make ourselves comfortable in the pub with our card games and entertain ourselves while enjoying a wonderful meal. This was truly the break we all deserved.
The included breakfast far exceeded our expectations. The grounds of the hotel are gorgeous. And the staff were all so lovey and helpful.
The creaking floors outside our room, and the size of the bath was a surprise.
Like the old world furniture and all the staff so helpful
WiFi was poor
I have stayed at Rawdons on several occasions,I am always pleasantly surprised that the staff remembers me and it's like catching up with old family friends.Breakfast is always well presented with plenty options for meat and non-meat eaters, my favourite of course the Rawdons home-made bread with two soft eggs.
I suppose it's part of the old-world charm, but I can never get use to the load footsteps at night down the wood carpeted floors.
Time is standing still and you might think you are somewhere in England. Fantastic pub serving their own beers and gin.
nothing except for the weather (not a fault of the hotel).
We love Rawdons Hotel and have stayed there a few times already so had expectations which sadly fell short at this stay. Overall the hotel, pub and gardens are lovely and staff wonderful.
We booked a “Luxury Family room” and the pictures did not match the actual room. Our interleading family room (rooms 17&18) were 2x standard rooms at best. We have stayed in different rooms at different visits so I’m well aware of the difference. The breakfast was also quite basic compared to the usual spread which we were looking forward to. No muffins, crumpets or pastries. The scones were stale, when we asked if they had any fresh ones we were told just the ones on offer which were apparently 2 days old!
The food was very delicious, for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The oxtail was the best meal for us both for dinner. The staff are absolutely friendly and really make sure that you as a guest are felt welcomed at all times. The staff really go above and beyond, especially catering for my partner's food allergies. The view from the hotel and the room was beautiful at all times of the day.
The room doesn't have an aircon or fan, and sometimes it was quite warm in the room. The bed was unfortunately very hard and uncomfortable. The menu needs to be specific and staff need to follow the menu or explain to guests that additional food will be added to the plate. For example, I had ordered french toast and then when it arrived, there was bacon with it. The menu doesn't state the bacon is served with the french toast. I don't eat pork, so I lost out on a piece of toast as the bacon was sitting on it.
Food is amazing, staff is friendly and helpfull.Amazing setting and venue.
Bath is tiny, but shower is good
I love everything! The view, the facilities and the friendly staff. 10/10 service ❤️
Nothing at all
A reserved table was waiting for us close to a fire place in an english pub type setting, as it was rainy and cool for dinner. The menu was written on a movable blackboard, which the waiting staff presented, a environmental friendly genious idea. The meals were presented with love and tasted even better.Breakfast was in a in a different room, a buffet table placed in the middle with all the breakfast standards available. Hot meals were taken to order. Coffee was good, we could not fault anything. Another fire place made the room cozy and warm. The grounds were as expexted and more as described, an English country hotel with beautiful yesteryear decor, gardens and lakes. A troop of vervet monkeys was a reminder that we were in South Africa. A pity about the weather but the friendly ambience and staff made up for it.
Rooms need a little maintenance but were clean and comfortable
Plugs were defective Fan was falling apart Untidy wiring
The hotel staff were all lovely. We had a lovely dinner and the setting is beautiful.
We did find the decor is a bit older and ready for a refurb. The windows were closed everywhere and with temperature in the 30 degrees, this was uncomfortable. The price of water was a bit ridiculous at R30 a bottle for 500ml......
The service overall from check-in to dinner to check-out was exceptional. All the staff were friendly and engaging and always happy to help with any requests. The hotel itself is spotlessly clean and the management team are fastidious in their efforts to ensure a comfortable stay. The rooms are fantastic and well appointed and the beds very comfortable. The hotel is set in a stunning location and truly is worth a visit.
We stayed in the Lake Cottage. It was private and very comfortable and had a wonderful view over the dam. We saw a number of birds, including a pair of giant kingfishers. The bed was comfortable. The walk around the grounds was a highlight each morning.Breakfast in the main hotel was very good with a wide selection of buffet and cooked options and friendly service. We had supper 3 times at the Boar's Head pub on site and food was very good. Good selection of wine on the menu, and excellent beers from the Nottingham Road Brewing Company, also on site.
Nothing obvious
Breakfast was good and location was good
Dinner was not great. Room was not great as it was located near to rooms where conference participants were staying who made a noise and kept me awake until very late. This defeated the objective of the stay.
