    Pros +

    • Excellent breakfast served at a convenient time and the fluffiest omelets served by friendly staff. All meals were delicious, well presented at various venues and reasonably priced. I stayed 2 nights longer than planned and really enjoyed the peace and quiet and tranquility of the environment. The staff was friendly and courteous, especially Petra at reception went out of her way to make my stay comfortable. I will definitely go back to the Royal Hotel.
    • A Charming Stay at One of South Africa’s Oldest Hotels! My wife and I spent only one night at the Royal Hotel in Riebeek-Kasteel, and it was an unforgettable experience. Nestled in one of South Africa’s oldest towns, this historic hotel exudes old-school charm while being beautifully maintained. We stayed in one of the King Suites, which offered spectacular mountain views - a perfect backdrop for a relaxing getaway. The room was spacious, elegant, and full of character, blending heritage with comfort. The staff were friendly and helpful, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. One of the highlights was enjoying a sundowner and breakfast on the famous front 'stoep', capturing the spirit of the town and the hotel.
    • The King suite is excellent and amazing value when you look at the options in surrounding areas. The staff are super friendly. Complete escapizum and relaxing. Great food and gin drinks. Sit and read a book anywhere in the hotel and it just works.

    Cons -

    • The weather - it was uncomfortably hot during my stay - but fully air-conditioned rooms made up for that!
    • The only downside was the bathroom lighting system, which operates on a motion sensor and stays on for approximately 20 minutes after activation. This was a bit disruptive, especially when going to bed or using the bathroom late at night, as the bright lights and noisy fan made it difficult to get back to sleep.
    • The weird very low key holes in the garden rooms, you literally had to kneel down to lock/unlock your room

Very friendly staff! Beautifully decorated and walking distance from shops and restaurants.

The weird very low key holes in the garden rooms, you literally had to kneel down to lock/unlock your room

The location was excellent. Loved that there was a bath as well as a shower in the bathroom. products in the bathroom was excellent. Breakfast was exceptional, defs have a scone. All the DSTV sport channels was available.

Not having tea and coffee making facilities in the room. You are able to order any time, but it is intrusive in the early morning. No two point plugs or USB point next to the bed.

Breakfast was great. Food was fresh and tasty. Supper was extremely good. The food was great quality. We ordered room service for breakfast and supper and the food arrived warm and timeously. I would return.

I was very confused about breakfast, i wasn’t sure if it was part of my stay as the breakfast menu had prices on and the waiter was not clear.

Beautiful building, very helpful, friendly and courteous staff, well equipped room with comfortable bed and good food - had dinner one night and breakfast both mornings. The terrace was a cool place to sit but several areas to rear of hotel also good.

Bit of traffic noise from the R311 main road especially if sitting outside the King Suites but plenty of other places to sit which are quiet.

Nice atmosphere- great friendly and helpful staff - great choice of Gins , good location

The location is beautiful and the wide porch overlooking the street is lovely for afternoon drinks.

The rooms were very small and I didn't feel like we got value for money at R2500 for one night for two people in a very small room with no redeeming features like a view or little extra touches like a tea and coffee station in the room. The breakfast was lovely but the service was very, very slow. It took two hours for us to finish breakfast due to the very slow service. The grounds are not well maintained and lack character.

The valentines dinner food was amazing quality, presentation and flavoursView from suite amazingBed comfortableService not bad but not matching quality of food. Silly things like wine glasses quality. Staff need a little finesse training. Wearing slops at dinner and breakfast. No manager (or not aware who manaher was) was at dinner or brealfast. Will we go back for sure. Was it great, hmmm maybe.

Staff need a little finesse training to take them frol average to great

The hotel is really beautiful. We were there just for one night and were so glad we stayed in spite of the excessively hot weather. We were there for a celebration and we're treated royally.

Not that much to see from our potent of cure in Riebeek Kasteel although that was partly because it was too hot for us to wander around. But location was beautiful with fabulous views and gorgeous architecture.

    7EvaPosted on: 2-1-2025

The view is nice and the atmosphere. Friendly and helpful staff.

Unfortunately our good impression from our first visit, two years ago, was not repeated. The room was rather small and dark. No chairs for sitting and no coffee and tee facilities in the room. It was brought to us though after request.Long waiting time at the restaurant and food was not so good. But we were well compensated for that.

    7RobertPosted on: 1-29-2025

Staff were excellent. Hotel was well appointed.

Small point but food offering could be improved.

    8MandyPosted on: 1-20-2025

Staff were very friendly and offered great service. Loved sitting on the stoep for dinner and breakfast. Great food and a big selection of Gin. Rooms were very clean.

No coffee available in the rooms. Rooms are very basic.

    Staff is extremely friendly

the menu in the hotel is very limited. The room staff messed bleach on the faded unhygenic facecloths that the hotel provides thats in the room and just left it over the bath tub. The flushing mechanism had faeces on when we arrived. The toilett brush container is filthy dnt touch it. And cockroaches. Lots of them when the lights go out. But the owner told me that they know about it lol.

Comfortable rooms with aircon, great dinner and a good breakfast and nice clear swimming pool.

Attention to outside maintenance is neglected. No working umbrella at the swimming pool. Pool service upon request. No working fans inside the hotel bar area. No coffee stations in the rooms. No answer at reception before 7am. Double rooms are very dark inside.

    Friendly staff and nice atmosphere

    Bed was not very comfortble

    8BarryPosted on: 11-18-2024

Very friendly staff, and very well appointed living areas in hotel. Our room TV did not work, but everything else was excellent

Room TV did not work, and we would have liked to have tea / coffee making facilities in the room.
