Room was exceptional, tons of space and amenitiesLocation was within walking distance to many restaurants and stores. It was also an easy ride to most attractions.Breakfast was fantastics and you got to pick from two local restaurant, within 1-2 mins walk. The staff at Hippo went above and beyond to bring the most comfortable stay.
Nothing at all.
It is a lovely boutique hotel. Each room is distinct. Right in the middle of the hip part of Cape Town. Great included breakfast options
Perfect
Stayed for one night after our Garden Route tour before our flight back. Busy area, lots of food options. Room was comfortable. Easy to walk along Kloof St & Long St to our walking tour, and easy to return from Bo Kapp. Enjoyed the balcony in the evening. For security, had to buzz in on initial arrival and then used our key cards to get in the building.
For those who are sensitive to noise, it stays loud late since it’s a central area. The only issue we had was not knowing what all the buttons/switches in the room were for. We had to try them all out to see what turned on which lights.
Everything was so good that we extended our stay. All members of the staff were super friendly and helpful. Willing not only to do their job but also to help us with our problems. Breakfast options were super cool. Loved it.
Maybe in some foreseeable future the AC’s have to be renewed. Also I’d think about the light in the room, that wasn’t super comfortable. Overall, everything’s fine
Friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable, luxury rooms, very clean with bath and shower. Lovely heated rooms with heated towel rails, great in winter. Hotel is walking distance from good restaurants, pubs and the Labia theatre. Staff service rooms daily and has 24 hour support. Breakfast vouchers at nearby restaurants, added treat. Will definitely stay there again.
Loved the breakfast at Egg Head restaurant, but Therapy restaurant was underwhelming with slow service.
Lovely room with kitchenette, large couch and table and bathroom with towel warmer, shower, and large tub. Very clean! Great location with many restaurants close by.
Look no further—Hippo Boutique Hotel is the place to stay in Cape Town! Fantastic location in the heart of the Gardens area, a short Uber ride to the waterfront. I was drawn in by the trendy area and loved the idea of three restaurants to choose from for breakfast! They did not disappoint! Each was delicious and all within walking distance. (One was downstairs!) There is a grocery store around the corner, spas in the area, and the room was top notch! The room was heavenly! The bed was cozy, A/C perfect, the kitchenette was useful, and I can’t rave enough about the bathroom! The shower was hot with ideal water pressure and the bathtub allowed for perfect nightly bubble baths! Pick up a bubble bar from Lush at the V&A Waterfront mall and your stay will be complete! I can’t rave enough and look forward to a future stay!Other reviews struggled to find the lift, but it was easy to locate from the parking area, and I was at the front side of the building and did not hear the outside noise.
Nothing, I loved it all!
Very well located, fun, busy area, full of restaurants. Staff were friendly and helpful. They have on site parking which is fabulous to have in the city. Only suggestion I have is that they add sheer curtains over the Roman blinds so you can have natural light and privacy in the room and not just fully open windows or fully closed. Other than that, the small details are great. Having a make up mirror, enough plugs etc
They have a great deal with a wonderful nearby restaurant for breakfast. The menu there is fantastic with great options for drinks and food.
There no elevator access to the reception if you enter through the front door
Fantastic room; so large and comfortable and stylish!
Everything was perfect!
Great location and a lovely room with helpful staff
The staff were all exceptional and went out of their way to help me. I was in a difficult situation, but they all stepped in to help, and things were sorted out quickly. The venue itself was weloming pristine and comfortable. The location is also convenient, close to restuarants, bars and shops. The area also has a lively vibe.
They need reserved parking outside the front for collection by Uber or taxi. The current system is a bit complicated.
Location, friendly staff, rooms always made up at a time to suit, no noise issue. All round great experience
Everything was REALLY perfect. But the standout feature was - and I really never say this - the staff! We met quite a few and ALL of them were astonishingly friendly and helpful, going out of their way to be nice. It makes SO MUCH difference to a happy stay. Contrasting, we paid 3 times more to stay at Parker Cottage before this, and the Hippo staff really need to give them some training! 100% 5 Stars.
The staff were very friendly and made sure they showed me all the rooms as I was not happy with mine
Booking.com completely misrepresented the description of the room! I was given a duplex where the bedroom was upstairs facing an open bath and sink. It's like sleeping in the bathroom! The room was stuffy and hot and the one air-conditioning unit was not going to cool it. I was given an alternative which was much cheaper than what I had paid for but I got no compensation. Also this hotel is not for business travelers. Their breakfast restaurant doesn't open till 8 am and the service is very slow! Alternatively you can take a voucher to Mug and Bean (I mean who eats there or drinks their dishwater coffee?) Or EggHead. The latter is good but the breakfast voucher doesn't cover eggs, juice and a hot drink! Again something that Booking.com fails to mention! The mattresses are not comfortable!
Great location
Breakfast included but you have to go to a near by restaurant.
The rooms behind reception are terrible,Fact Cactus noise at night, builders on scaffolding who can see into your room. The room was not ready at 4pm to check in.
