The Portswood Hotel

Location is fantastic. Staff is great, and breakfast buffet was good.

The lift kept breaking down while we were there...and the deodorizer they use in the lobby area is too strong and not a pleasant aroma.

I loved that it was so close to the Waterfront. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful the room was a good size , comfortable and clean. The breakfast was excellent. Next trip I would love to be there for longer.

The elevator broke

Kudos to all the staff who have gone out of their way to be pleasant And helpful. Everyone was amazing. Shirley in the dinning room was one of the finest servers we have ever had the pleasure of meeting. The food in the restaurant was outstanding and the head chef and assistant gave every attention to detail and flavor. Standing ovation to all of them! The lamb was outstanding and the squash and beat root salad were some of the best I’ve ever had. Well done!

Lovely hotel in the heart of the V&A Waterfront district. Easy to get around to most of the sights, many restaurants and bars.Staff were extremely friendly and helpful and well as fun.Excellent breakfast buffet with a cute bar area as well as outdoor seating and a pool. Well maintained and loved hotel

Location, location, location - the hotel could not be better situated for exploring the city and the surrounding area. The free parking made all the difference in the center of such a busy city. Rooms are comfortable and breakfast is good too. Staff are very friendly and accommodating.

The hotel allowed me to checkout at 12pm. The bathtub was very nice.

The booking.com website said the hotel included an airport shuttle; however, it was not included and the hotel airport taxi service was very expensive. The elevators were not working so I had to carry my heavy suitcase downstairs upon checkout. The booking.com website said the room came with a view, but it was a bad view.

The elevator wasn’t working so had to climb four flights upstairs. Also given the room right next to the door at the fourth floor so heard it all night long.

Plugs in the room non-functional. Hotel very noisy. Double booking on our room. Other guest had room key and entered room while we were inside.

Breakfast was delicious - plenty of fresh fruit and eggs cooked to order. All staff, very friendly and helpful.

Noisy, large aircon unit in rooms

First the positives- the bed was great,very comfy! Liked the location as very short walk to V&A shops and restaurants! Breakfast staff & housekeeping staff were friendly and helpful when needed. Room was good! Lovely choice of teas in the room!

The negatives- The reception staff (particularly one lady at Reception, I think it is the lady wearing specs but I could be wrong not 100% sure if she had specs but generally the reception ladies ) were not very friendly or welcoming during check in. During our stay, every time, I walked past the Reception going in or out of the hotel, I would say Good morning or Good afternoon or Hi or smile to greet reception as I usually do whenever we stay in hotels but noticed no one bothered to even look up. There was no other customer by reception so it was not like they were busy, they were just too busy chatting to each other to bother with any greeting or smile at guests! Reception staff can see when guests walk in & out of hotel, so just a brief moment to look up & smile at the guest or greet them won’t hurt especially when they are not busy, attending to any guests at Reception! We are retired and lucky to be able to travel most months of the year on holiday so have stayed in many great hotels hence comparing with other hotels.

Location is perfect for V&A Waterfront . Good breakfast selection but cooked food just so so. Old rather small bed very “bouncy “ so if one person moved , so did the other !

Staff were exceptionally kind, welcoming and helpful, always with a smile. Apart from 1 lady in the resturant. Will certainly stay again if I can have floor 4.

Property is tired. Suggest valuables be kept in locked suitcase or on self as safe is not secure. Lift was out of action three times during our stay.
