The hotel was wonderful for our family, and the staff in particular were superb. They could not do enough to make our stay a pleasure, with the porters in particular always going above and beyond - Mbuso was especially great. All the staff were so attentive to our needs, and made a real fuss of our two young kids.

A truly world class hotel! Not many places like this around the world.

The air conditioning was a bit loud, but this is understandable given age of the building. Room was 232

I broke my ankle a few weeks before my trip to Cape Town. The Mount Nelson graciously offered a room that would work for me and my knee scooter and my 2 sisters. Our room was wonderful. The staff could not have been more helpful. The grounds and the hotel are lovely. The service was A+ and don't miss high tea. We were so enamored with the Mt Nelson we stayed there again on our return from our safari. Nothing but praise.

    Fantastic location and staff…

The communication between booking.com and Mount Nelson is very poor…links are removed on all comms and I couldn’t make any arrangements. I will book with the hotel directly next time, the service and communication were good when I contacted the hotel directly. Michael was exceptional, and were the staff.

Everything about our stay was an absolute delight and completely faultless. The staff were superb, especially loved the breakfast staff, who were so lovely with my son! Breakfast was one of the best I’ve ever had, incredible selection and quality. Our room was gorgeous, loved all the attention to detail and we had everything we could possibly need for a toddler. Honestly, this should be six stars, especially the service, everyone goes above and beyond.

That our stay was only one night! We’ll come for longer next time.

The staff were sunshine, the breakfast was glorious. Lovely pool and sun lounging area. Colonial twenties style bar and dining areas and pianist tinkering on the ivories every afternoon. Big gardens made it feel like a lush haven in the city

Great atmosphere as it is a lively and popular venue with real life. Excellent welcome and staff. The service is very good. We very much enjoyed the breakfast (included) which was excellent. The cocktail bar is great for drinks and the pianist is amazing.

The bathroom facilities in the room were a little faded and need to be refreshed - we had a suite and the bathroom was rather small (not possible to both stand at the double sink with the door open, the shower cubicle as quite small and the door did not close properly). The hotel has a lot of charm but it is in need of a refresh in certain aspects (particularly in the bathroom, lifts, etc). We also had a suite on the first floor above the lobby and it was rather noisy. Also the soundproofing with the connecting suite was poor and we could hear conversations through the door. The minibar was stocked but the range of alcohol was quite limited and the range of wines in the room was disappointing (just one half bottle of Waterford for red wine for example), which is shame given the richness of South Africa's wine offering. The Red Room is also a little dated and a bit overrated - something of disappointment for the Chef's Warehouse if you have been to their other restaurants like the one in Constantia. Overall the hotel is a great place to stay with a busy vibe and a nice bar, great staff, but it does coast a little on its history and reputation, and there is a need to modernise certain aspects. We would stay again but it needs some management attention to really compete with the leading hotels in its class!

Mount Nelson is truly an oasis, a beautiful gem offering world-class accommodation and warm, exceptional service that makes you feel truly special. The staff are genuinely welcoming and always ready to assist. A special mention to Sim in the Veranda restaurant and Michael, as well as everyone I had the pleasure of interacting with. As a solo traveler seeking rest and rejuvenation before starting a week-long program in Cape Town, I found this to be the perfect hideaway. I felt completely safe and cared for, and everything about my stay was five-star in every sense. I especially enjoyed the stunning gardens and the breathtaking views from my room.

What’s not to love!!! Having to check out was the only downside ?

If you only ever stay at one hotel in the world, make it the Mount Nelson. The whole experienece was amazing from start to finish. Our room was lovely, spacious & clean with all the extras. The facilities were fantastic, heated outdoor pool, spa, tennis lessons available.....could have stayed longer!

    10AlicePosted on: 6-11-2024

The hotel is set in a garden with 100+year old trees with Table Mt behind it. There is a beautiful pool, tennis courts, a bar, patio for afternoon tea. Our room had a spectacular view of Table Mt.

Most amazing hotel in a stunning location, great gardens and every single staff member extremely helpful and friendly.

    10KoosPosted on: 4-14-2024

Aftenoon tea was excellent. An amazing experience.

Not all areas are wheelchair friendly. The Red Room restaurant is not accessable for disabled people at all. One would expect that an establishment of the Mount Nelson's caliber and cost should be better equipped

Beautiful and very well maintained building with a lot of charm.Spacious rooms.Beautiful gardens and groundsbeautiful art collection throughout the hotelGreat gymSome team members were friendly efficient and chatty, contrarily to most others (special thanks to Sim, All the concierge team, Shepard, and one doorman)

Bed not very comfortableNoisy rooms, you hear every step in the room on the higher levelDrinks in the garden take a minimum of 20 to 30 minutes to arriveTo the exception of above listed, service very impersonal, team is detached. No effort in conversing even if you come to the same place for drinks every night, and are served by the same people.Rooms was on DND as husband was sick (which they knew), they called, asked to remove the DND to give him get well amenities, they effectively woke him up and had him get out of bed

This whole experience was incredible! Our expectations were met and beyond that we were treated to countless little surprises and amenities. Never have I received these many extras that were also very thoughtful, good quality and true to the brand. Walking through the property grounds in their garden is lovely and the pool area is very relaxing. Thanks to the guest experience manager Adam Lambert we someone to talk to about our stay and they are eager to perform even better for our next stay. All the staff were super friendly and in love with our 6m baby!

Service by the pool area could be improved as often we were waiting a little too long and sometimes orders were forgotten.
