Pros +
- This place was an amazing gem! We needed a place to stay last minute and they were more than easy to deal with in arranging our accommodations. The staff was super helpful and understanding. They even delivered pastries to our room when our children were sick and we were not able to make it to the breakfast.
- Well appointed rooms supported by the good staff and excellent menu.Name plague and car charging were a great touch.
- From the reserved parking space, to the very friendly check-in. We felt like VIP’s the way we were treated. The room was absolutely stunning!
Cons -
- Nothing!
- Did seem a little bit under staffed, in the morning, there was only one member of staff doing breakfast and also the check out process. That being said he did an excellent job.
- Bit on the expensive side but cool hotel anyway

Loved everything. The beautiful old building, the decor, the staff, the breakfast (best I’ve ever had!), the location, and all the small touches that were so appreciated.
All the little extras you get in the room, loved how clean and modern the rooms where.

Very comfortable room and bed, quiet , central and lots of nice boutique features and a very good breakfast
Bit on the expensive side but cool hotel anyway
I have stayed here several times and it never fails to disappoint. Jo helped us with our booking both pre arrival and then warmly greeted us on arrival. The staff are all equally as friendly, nothing is too much trouble. The rooms, bar areas and restaurant are pristine. I love this hotel.
Clean with ac, food was excellent, staff were very friendly and helpful (Jo)
Beautifully designed, spacious, clean. Great location. Personal parking space.
The decor, style, cleanliness and general ambience was fantastic, from the room, through the hallway, to the dining area and finally the cosy bar area.
There is nothing that we did not like.
Spotless, peaceful, warm, luxury experience without any pretentiousness. Lovely complimentary drink on arrival and gorgeous fudge.
Room just got a bit too warm for me personally! But being able to open the skylights helped a lot
We had a fantastic stay - the room and the entire hotel was amazing, beautifully decorated and with lots of seating areas to chill or work in. Joe managed our stay really well, organising everything we needed for a late check-in. All staff were great, the food in the restaurant was really really good and definitely not on the expensive side. Breakfast was varied and really yummy, and again the service was great. We really loved staying here and are already planning on coming back next year!
Nothing!
Fantastic property, everything was 10/10. Only small improvement would be it was a shame my room didn’t have any windows other than a small skylight, but then again I did book very late so probably got the last room. The staff were amazing, so friendly and helpful.
very cute property - really tastefully done. Amazing attention to detail. Nice big rooms, lovely bar and restaurant. Really liked it.
The only one downside - It was slightly warm in our room at night so we opened the sky lights - but there is a church/clock tower just outside the hotel and the bell goes every hour on the hour at night so if you’re not a deep sleeper, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel unless you want to wake up every hour. apart from that it was brilliant!
A modern twist on a former builders / engineers merchant's yard. The hotel has been sympathetically created while retaining some of the features and character of the old building, including a fascinating collection of old catalogues and brochures from times gone by.The food was great and the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful.Thank you all for making our trip to The Peak District so enjoyable - we look forward to seeing you again before too long.
I gifted an overnight stay to my parents for their wedding anniversary and they had a meal in the evening. My parents thoroughly enjoyed it, the only minus was because there was no view from bedroom window, just had a skylight but that is out of hotels control. They gave the complimentary alcoholic drinks with meal & agreed a slightly later check out as clocks went forward which was i nice touch.Myself and family have had a meal there too & I would thoroughly recommend.
The location was great, the room was exceptional and the bed was very comfy, loved the black out blinds enabled us to sleep better and the whole place was so immaculate, the bath was just what we needed, the dressing gowns and the fudge was a great addition. Room very well equipped with shampoo and body lotion and really nice shower pot.
Breakfast - the French toast was under cooked and I didn’t get the blueberry compote, the English breakfast didn’t come with toast, there wasn’t any sweeteners to hand, minor things
Beautiful location, fantastic food in the restaurant, great service and the room was amazing!
We loved everything about The Merchants yard, the service, room and meal were all amazing. It’s was a lovely touch when we arrived that we had our name on the parking space.
Nothing, everything was just perfect.
Lovely rooms, delicious food and attentive staff.
