Pros +
- Beautifully blended period and contemporary buildings to suit this historic village. Friendly welcoming staff. All round a really good experience
- Fabulous hotel ..quiet and in a wonderful location
- the location was beautiful and the accomodation very comfortable, the breakfast staff and service was better than the dinner
Cons -
- Squeaky floors No cushions on bar chairs
- Arrival Experience:Upon entering the bar area, I politely inquired about the reception location. The staff member responded dismissively, asking, “Well, do you know which one? Where are you supposed to be?” This interaction felt unwelcoming and unprofessional.Check-in Process:At reception, we encountered further challenges. The staff member did not acknowledge us with a greeting or make eye contact, simply stating, “There’s an issue with your reservation,” without offering any assistance or solutions.Dining Experience:Although the room itself was pleasant, our dinner reservation experience was less than ideal. When we approached the restaurant desk, the staff walked away to serve tea without acknowledging us, leaving us waiting for five minutes. After being seated, we waited an additional ten minutes before being asked for our drink order. When I requested a vodka with olives, I was informed five minutes later that cocktails were not available—information that could have been communicated initially.Ultimately, we decided to dine at the Sheep Restaurant instead, where we received the warm, professional service we had hoped to experience at your establishment.
- Didn’t have Nutella for breakfast

Cosy lovely inn in the middle of a very cute village, lovely to dogs
Didn’t have Nutella for breakfast
The hotel room was exceptional and we loved the location
The only complaint we had was the breakfast. On the first day they forgot our hashbrowns and the second day we ordered toast and were served only the crusts so we had to order more
The setting was outstanding beautiful place
Our room was quite loud at points when staff would come out the kitchen at night could hear talking and doors room quite near car park not the best view for the money
Lovely location with very good food service staff and helpful front desk assistants. Breakfast was amazing.
Rooms, though clean, were looking a bit heavily used. I imagine it’s very busy in season to be fair.
The check in experience was great!! Everyone was really nice. The cottages were very cozy as well as the fire that was stoked by the personnel while we were enjoying a game in the community area.
The name of the place was a little odd to us. We understood the reason for the name, but it still was a little scarry. The friendliness of the people made up for any name.
Loved the location in the cotswolds. The restaurant staff was very friendly and efficient...shoutout to Slav, Mol and Steve!
The breakfast was good.
Dinner menu could be expanded to include some other options. Perhaps you could have added some more staff for the dining room and the bar.
Everything! Beautiful property. Lovely and welcoming receptionists who went out of their way to help a touring cyclist upon arrival. Wonderful pub garden. Fabulous room—huge and comfortable bed, enormous bath, tranquil, comfortable and beautiful. Excellent breakfast. Will definitely return. Many, many thanks!Michael Himes
Centuries old building but well maintained, room is clean and cozy. The surrounding area and the hotel itself are very beautiful, and with half an hour pleasant walk will go the bourton-on-the-water town.Great breakfast.
The room is well furnished and decorated, but missing some functional staffs like storage and fridge.
Comfortable accommodations in beautiful Cotswolds locale.
Wifi very spotty.
The surrounding beautiful lovely the garden and water the breakfast the reception tried to help
Very hot no ac if u open windows bugs spiders flies come in the price so high for a hot room the bed was so uncomfortable I’m suffering from backache now the mattress very bad I told them they said we can’t do anything we’re fully booked really sad I paid 800 p for hot and uncomfortable bed and kids jumping for hours couldn’t sleep really for 3 nights
The food and the staff, relaxing Green areas fir walk and scenery, beautiful areas to walk around
The cottage was dirty, lots lots of spiders, window dirty No good house keeping, incomplete all the days Nothing for insects to protect in the cottage We got upgraded to cottage even we booked a room !!!!! Not out favorite stay
Attractive historic property. Our room had gabled roof, comfortable beds. Large lawn had benches and food service if you like to sit outside
The restaurant servers were a bit awkward. But nice breakfast and decent dinners.
Charming backyard, next to open field and a stream.
Bathroom facilities could use an upgrade. Both faucets in the bath tub and sink were difficult to turn on/off.
The setting is amazing and hard to beat. Probably one of the most beautiful villages in the country.
The cleanliness of the room and corridors leading to the rooms. Also the red chandler in the reception area hasn’t been dusted in months. We found several wood lice in our room. I had to clean the bathroom floor with wet wipes as soon as we arrived as it didn’t look like it had been cleaned for at least a few week covered in dust and other peoples hair. The dust on the carpet at the spine of our room door was thick. We also ate in the hotel the first night, food over priced and not well cooked. The batter my fish was in was only half filled with fish the rest fresh air inside the batter, my husbands chicken was dry and we hated the gratuity added to the bill automatically and didn’t complain about the gratuity because the Scottish waiter who served us was very friendly and polite and helpful. The second day we returned about 5pm or just after that and found our room door had been left unlocked after the cleaners had left. Just as I noticed a member of the cleaning staff came along and I reported it to him and he said he would inform his manager but no one approached us about it the rest of the night or the next morning to even enquire if anything was missing which luckily it wasn’t. We’ve been to the Slaughter around six times now and normally wouldn’t pass the place but are thinking about an air b&b in lower slaughter for our next visit. We can always go back to the Inn for a drink and use of their gardens which is the best bit about it.
Location and ambiance is perfect. This was our 6th time here and we love it. It’s very kids and dog friendly and the staff makes everyone feel at home. Rooms are comfortable and breakfast is very good. Although we miss the pain au chocolate!
The drink prices are ridiculously high - more expensive than many places in central London. I think that is off putting.
rooms were a bit tired and overpriced , restuarant food was only standard quality , not what I expected at all
our evening meal and the room needed a bit of tlc .
