    Pros +

    • Staff exceptionally friendly and helpful from before check-in to check- out. Hotel is an unexpected goldmine in the area. The grounds are also beautiful.
    • Absolutely everything. Staff were incredible, friendly and offered a top class service. The cottage was amazing, we are lost for words how nice it was and a pure luxury. Attention to every detail and very comfortable sleep. Castle amazing too, the best champagne afternoon tea we have ever had. Breakfast was fantastic, so much choice and cooked options were great. I could go on all day here how pleased we are with our day
    • Location excellent, food good, trocaderos excellent

    Cons -

    • Check in was a bit long, staff was otherwise engaged, but overall stay was so good that in the end it really didn’t matter and didn’t affect the perfect score given for our full experience
    • Booked a castle room, booking website said there was tea making facilities with room, however there was not, called reception who tuned up with tray, however when checking out they charged us £13 for this which I thought was shocking considering we paid £260 for room.
    • Only negative was the dinner option was high end dining when we wanted something more informal.

The Crossbasket castle/hotel was absolutely beautiful! The staff was extremely friendly, and the room was stunning. We were delighted to find a lovely fresh fruit platter and delicious chocolates waiting for us when we arrived. The bed was comfortable, and the room was quite large. I can't say enough about the breakfast which was included with our stay. We were greeted with an extensive menu which was cooked to order as well as a nice selection of fruit, pastries and delicious coffee. The staff arranged for taxi service which I felt was reasonable. However, be warned that the return taxi fee will be double. Therefore, I would recommend uber which is significantly less expensive. We had an absolutely delightful stay! Our only regret was not staying longer!!!

absolutely nothing! Our stay was perfect:-) We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and as previously mentioned, wish we could have stayed longer!

We liked the room that we got moved to, which technically was a downgrade...

Value for money. The room in the castle was dirty and dirty and did not smell nice. We had an opened bottle in our fridge that someone drank from. There were no available tables for dinner the night we got there until 8:30pm and no one asked if we wanted to book.

Upgrade to suit. Felt like royalty.

Rooms maybe need a little love. Wallpaper coming off the walls. TV cabinet door broken.

    Lovely decor

Service was extremely slow. Room service delivered to our room in error. Breakfast in dining room - breakfast order wrong.

    Everything !Breakfast was delightful.

Dinner was a little expensive but the overall ambience made up for that.

They location, the surrounding area and the entertainment.

Poor management on arrival, taken to wrong room which was occupied by another gueat advertised as spa hotel but no on site spa that we could see, No tea or coffee facilities in room, staff in restaurant tried their hardest but was unfortunately not able to supply a high service, Steak unseasoned chips under cooked and sauce running like wine needed reduced and tasteless, waited 1.5hrs between starter and main course when we eventually called over the staff. Drinks in castle after meal was poor as night porter was the only staff who didn't know the bar or their wines and came across quite rude.called for coffee in morning as arrival staff told us too and then was charged on departure for this.

Loved the room but there was an issue and we were quickly upgraded to a better room great service. Breakfast was fab and nice touch in the room as we were celebrating our golden wedding

Perfect venue for wedding, service was very good from arrival to departure. Beautiful setting.

The castle is a beautiful venue.

Having to overturn a charge (entertainment) applied for sitting at the bar.

Spacious ,good location helpful staff .Good size room all very clean .Car parking near reception and plenty of space .

We didn’t stay in the castle but we enjoyed our stay in the new part .We had dinner but didn’t realise there were a singer and dancers,we enjoyed it but felt it went on too long.We were never told about the add on cost of the entertainment when we booked our dinner ,which I think they should of only out of courtesy .

Its a very small castle. No dining options. So if you don’t book the restaurant beforehand then you can’t have dinner!! We booked “castle large double” and they gave us the smallest room ever (room number 7) definitely not worth it.

Rooms are very old, including the mattress, sofa and all. Castle is very small. Rooms are extremely small even if you book a “castle large double” so noth worth it. Also if you don’t reserve for dinner, they don’t have any other options! You starve.

We love crossbasket it is where we got married. The staff are very helpful, caring, and will answer any questions you may have. It is very clean and the beds are really comfy.

We have nothing bad to say about Crossbasket.

The reception staff were very good and extremely helpful. On arrival we had amazing scones, jam and cream in the castle lounge, which was a treat on a cold, wet day. They were the best in Scotland! Our room, in the new annexe, was well appointed and attractively decorated in an Art Deco 1920s style. It was quiet and relatively spacious. Both the bed and pillows were very good.Breakfast was ample with several hot choices, fruit, toast, cereals etc.Car parking is easy.

Sadly I was disappointed with the food in the Trocadero restaurant and felt there was an emphasis on style over substance in lots of areas.

    9MalcolmPosted on: 10-19-2025

We stayed in the original castle and the room was very large and nicely decorated in a style that was right for the 17th century building. It was clean, comfortable and the ensuite had the biggest bathtub you could imagine. The staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them, whatever you wanted. The evening meal in the Trocadero was a great experience and had a 1920's or 30's feel, with live music, dancers and, of course, excellent food. I would recommend it.

The walk across to the breakfast restaurant would not be nice in bad weather.

Hotel is beautiful & castle hotel is stunning. A perfect stay, great food & tocadero is so much fun!

Wow – what a stay! It was perfect from start to finish. The setting itself is absolutely stunning – the kind of place where you just stop for a second and take it all in. It feels both peaceful and special, like you’ve stepped into a little hidden gem. What really made it for us though was the staff. Every single person we met was so welcoming, helpful and genuinely kind. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble – they really went out of their way to make us comfortable, and that kind of warmth makes all the difference. As a couple, it was everything we could have hoped for: relaxing, romantic, and completely stress-free. We honestly couldn’t think of a single thing that would have made our stay better. Crossbasket ticked every box – we left already planning our next visit.Highly, highly recommend.Location is 10/10, we were close to Glasgow, Edinburgh, visited Ayr, Culzean Castle, some of the highlands and more - everything within an hour with car.
