About

In the rustic village of Dinnet in the heart of Royal Deeside, this family-run hotel is ideal for exploring the Highlands and tourist and sports activities in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. On the edge of the Scottish Highlands, this Victorian hotel is the perfect base from which to explore the natural beauty of Scotland. Pros +

    • Good food; Relaxed friendly atmosphere; Suited my needs - As a mountain walker, the hotel was central to my activity area and quiet (exactly what I needed after long days on foot).
    • Myself my husband and dogs all stayed in the lodges. The lodge was clean had everything you could need lots of space! Lovely view of the Forrest!
    • Very clean, excellent heating for winter, great kitchen, comfy beds, awesome bath and shower. Owner was extremely helpful.

    Cons -

    • From my own perspective - the stairs. After 22 km. on The Mounths, those stairs looked like Everest!
    • Loved our stay the only thing that would have been perfect was a baby gate outside on the decking to keep our dogs on the decking area or had we been traveling with children keep them a bit safer. I’m sure this would help parents but it might not allowed as it’s a fire exit.
    • Pillow's too hard for my personal taste and bathroom mirror light wouldn't work correctly

Lovely staff, great food, beautiful room.

Nice breakfast, hotel and room clean though room a bit small

    10DeborahPosted on: 9-10-2025

Well maintained, tastefully decorated. Catered for a birthday we were celebrating by upgrading our room and allowed us to have our own cake as part of dinner.

    5MichaelPosted on: 8-20-2025

The staff were excellent and very helpful with travel information we asked about.

The room was ok and clean but very small. The shower was terrible very little pressure at all and took an age to get a shower.

    7SheilaPosted on: 8-11-2025

The shower was great and the bed was very comfortable. The 3 dinners that we could have were excellant. The staff were very friendly and helpful

The room was not as big as we expected and rather small for my walker to move around in it. The dinner menu only had 5 different options for the main course and only 3 of them appealed to us - not enough for a week's stay. - and It did not change throughout the week. Also, one night they did not serve diner at all !

Dinner was excellent.Breakfast was good.Bed was very comfortable.

    Bathroom was basic

    9DavePosted on: 7-21-2025

Food, drinks, staff, room comfort and cleanliness all excellent.

Our only minor niggle was the tiny amount of shower gel provided+luckily we had our own).

    9HumphreyPosted on: 7-21-2025

The team was very welcoming and informative. We was offered an upgrade and took it. We choose not to use all the facilities in the room due to only staying for 1 night. When contracted for room upgrade, I requested a bottle to be put in the room and this was there when we arrived.

The price of the breakfast. It was nothing special but I understand that with them also running a chalet business and only having a small restaurant space it suits them. (Restaurant not being overly busy with chalet users). When we go away, we always price the the whole price of the stay. Therefore still value for money.

    5TimPosted on: 7-20-2025

The staff were very friendly and the evening meal was excellent.

The room and bed was small for the price. The bed was very uncomfortable.

Food was great, service was excellent, staff on hand at all times, great location and brilliant amenities

    9AinePosted on: 7-14-2025

We stayed 3 nights in a 2-bedroom self catering cabin located on the grounds of the hotel. The location is amazing, very close to the Loch Kinord walk and 3 miles from the nearest town. The cabin was lovely, very comfortable, super clean and had absolutely everything we needed. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant on our first night which was great. There was good choice available and they had a children's menu available. I'd highly recommend the cabins for families, there is a lot to do in the area (e.g Burn O'Vat, Balmoral Castle, the snow road drive).

Smoked haddock was obviously from a frozen block, swimming in water, tasteless and with a tough skin.

Poor location. Room small and cramped. Four posts made it smaller and added nothing to the amenity.

    8AndyPosted on: 6-29-2025

All good except their being no catering facilities the evening I arrived however the breakfast made up for it, being outlying the alternative for food was circa 10 miles away

    9IanPosted on: 6-1-2025

The room was lovely and had a delightful balcony. There was also a comfy4 poster bed. The food (both dinner and breakfast ) was very good and they looked after my wife’s gluten and dairy intolerance very well
