Pros +
- I stayed in a standard room which was big enough for me and my dog, room clean and staff very helpful. Value for money 10….the location is great if you have a car or you want to do some hikes near by.
- The staff are lovely. It's very relaxing. The cafe is open until 9pm, they have limited snacks but the cake is delicious. We ate at the King's Head for an evening meal, it was delicious and a very large steak and kidney pud. Overall it had what we needed and the location was perfect. If you don't like the sound of cars, take ear plugs.
- Location and parking.
Cons -
- They could do with new pillows
- Dogs scratching at other hotel doors trying to get out through the night, also really loud children until the early hours, i sadly could not sleep until they settled.
- Maybe more choice at the cafe in the evening

Shower door needed attention
Great location, quiet and clean. Fantastic staff.
Fine as is
Great location. Room was clean and nice and staff were friendly. It was great because it is a pet friendly hotel so we were able to bring our cat with us who we take out walking with us.
Our room was facing the road and even with the window shut the cars were still loud when they drove past. The heaters in the room were old and worked a little too well making the room super hot and was hard to work out how to turn them off / down as it was just a button on the wall with not much indication.
Clean and comfortable room with parking.
Small room, problem with shower but changed room next day.
The Lodge only had a continental breakfast on site but the kings head was a 2 minute drive. We had the evening meal here which was excellent
Didn't have breakfast while we was there. Great location. Easy to get to places from there aswell. Room was clean and very comfy would definitely go back
Nothink
The lodge is located in a lovely area with a lovely view of the mountains, and only a short drive to small towns.
The lodge is on a busy road and can be loud at times.
The location was excellent
Room size was a little small and no cooked breakfast
Its proximity to Keswick, easy to get to. It was warm and cosy and welcoming. It felt like a safe place to stay as a solo traveller.
Only a tiny thing about the hook on the back of the bathroom door was wobbly and the flush button for the toilet was a bit broken.
Very helpful, friendly, brilliant breakfast with fantastic walks from the door.
Had a wonderful time, nice little get away. Loved the breakfast and the price. It was nice to eat breakfast and look out the window at the mountains
Modern and clean, friendly people very respectable price and they upgraded us to a slightly larger room.
Slightly dated bathroom - this is very minor though. Plenty of hot water
Great location to stay if visiting the Lake District, friendly staff, clean rooms
Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was clean and great for having dogs with us.
The price jumped up a couple of hours before I booked it. It suddenly jumped up an extra £50. Although the hotel met our needs I feel that it was overpriced for how basic it was.
The staff were delightful and could not have been more helpful. The room was basic but clean, the bed was comfortable, there was plenty of hot water, nice toiletries and my towels were changed despite only staying for two nights. The bath towel was a large bath sheet too, rather than the usual bath towel size. Breakfast was a 'proper' continental style meal with meat and cheeses, hard boiled eggs, fruit and cereals as well as toast and croissant. I was able to have a snack in the coffee shop in the evening (toasted ciabatta) instead of having to go out for a meal, which I appreciated.
The photograph didn't indicate that the rooms all face onto a busy B-road, which runs through St. John's in the Vale. Neither does it show that the A591, the main road between Keswick and Ambleside, runs almost parallel with the B-road with only a field, and therefore no sound barrier, between them. I was woken in the early hours on both the Saturday and Sunday morning with traffic noise. I feel as though the architects made a big mistake with the design - if they'd positioned the rooms to the rear I would be re-visiting but the road noise is a no-no for me. In addition, my room was the first one after the fire door off the landing so I had the constant noise of the fire door being opened and closed.
staff are friendly, views are amazing, lovely atmosphere & cosy rooms.
