Pros +
- Location to other cultural activities
- Very nice clean and staff were lovely
- We enjoyed the quality of the cooked breakfast, and the choices available, and not having to wait too long for it to arrive. It was good to see that the tables are wiped clean once diners have left the table. The staff were very friendly and helpful
Cons -
- I may have left my camera in the room upon departure. I emailed the hotel at east 8 times and made an international call requesting if they found the camera and as if this writing, they have not responded. I think that is very poor customer service
- Lovely hotel good size room
- 1) We feel that there could/should be more choices for the buffet breakfast, for example cheeses and cold meats, artisan breads, more cereals such as mueslies, yoghurts, and also a coffee machine for a choice of coffees including lattes, americanos, capuccinos, espressos, and so on. We feel that it could be more imaginative. 2) It would be better if the dishes could be cleared shortly after the course has been finished, instead of leaving them on the table until the diners have left the room.

A 'grande dame' Edwardian hotel in a wonderful, peaceful setting close to the River Tweed with historic Dryburgh Abbey just next door. Tastefully updated with generous public rooms and good-sized bedrooms. The restaurant wasn't operating for Christmas Day evening, but had made up a very heartening beef stew for us with wine from the bar and champagne for a Christmas treat. Breakfast the next morning was excellent, and staff throughout our stay were brilliant, professional and friendly and helpful at every stage. Lots to see and do in the area - it's a lovely part of Scotland.
Lovely dog friendly hotel, with llarge beautiful river view room. Dinner was excellent. Surrounding walks are great.
Nothing. Very happy
Beautiful hotel in idyllic setting. Food was amazing and staff are so friendly and helpful
Exactly what we needed, quiet and lovely staff.
The bedrooms were a bit out dated and cold.
Dinner and breakfast were excellent.
Although the room was comfortably warm, the supplementary heating (an electric oil-filled radiator) wasn't working despite trying every switch combination ? Only a single comfortable chair available in the room which was not ideal for 2 people.
Beautiful location and grounds. Good breakfast. Friendly staff.
Cobwebs on the inside of the bathroom window. Lack of rails in the shower.Croissant crumbs on the windowsill next to our breakfast table for two mornings.Needs a little more attention to cleanliness.
The staff and service was fabulous. We booked an afternoon tea and our table was reserved in front of the fire in lounge. This was a lovely touch as was the room being available when we arrived as a post afternoon tea nap was required.
The only thing we mentioned on checking out was our room did not seem to align with the Booking.Com photos (bathroom) however we totally appreciated that this was an off season stay and so there was restricted availability. This did not impact our stay and we will certainly be back.
Hotel is absolutely gorgeous from the outside and the setting is out of this world. I would stay here again, the rooms are very dated but clean and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was lovely and the staff were really good.
very dated - room and ensuite need an update but i understand the size of the property is huge so not an easy thing to do. Wouldnt stop me from staying there again though.
Disappointing
Room cold on arrival.Bare electric cable visible. Food middling and overpriced . Phone handset parted from cable.Overall place looked tired and in need of investment
Lovely old-fashioned room with view of river. Breakfast excellent, with everything you could want, and very nice staff serving. The immediate surroundings are exceptionally beautiful: the River Tweed, the atmospheric ruins of Driburgh Abbey. Lovely shot and longer walks along the river to the Temple of the Muses or a little uphill to the Statue of William Wallace. Scott's view is near-by, and Sir Wallter Scott is buried in the Abbey grounds. There are also beautiful longer walks along the River Tweed. The hotel's location is exceptionally peaceful, there is no traffic, apart from cars with guests etc or deliveries arriving and leaving. We love this place. It is also very pet-friendly. When we first arrived we had problems with the heating in our room - the radiators were not on and the towel rail in the bathroom didn't heat up. These were solved very quickly with exceptionally helpful staff at reception.
The heating could have been switched on in our room as we arrived on an exceptionally cold day. It would have been good to have a desk in our room.
Very dog friendly; good sized bedrooms, excellent breakfast and great location.
Loved the river view and the grounds. Very beautiful library upstairs to chill and relax in. Friendly staff. Great walks from the hotel.
Found the pillows a bit too hard.
The building, gardens and grounds were beautiful and the general condition of the interior was lovely. The River Tweed is At the bottom of the front lawn, beautiful.
The whole thing is let down by the poor heating and no double or secondary glazing. The outside temperature was below freezing and the heating was turned off at 1930hrs. We had to ask to have it turned back on which they did for about an hour. The windows were covered inside with condensation. The paint work particularly around windows was poor. Only ever seen two staff.
Large, open friendly staff, big rooms, reasonable food, lots of lovely dogs stay as wellNext to the lovely Abbey and set in beautiful grounds near the river, plenty of parking, lift for suitcase was welcome as well.
Ensuite fan noise was absurd plus fan was filthy, shower head needed repair so we could use it which was attended to immediately so full marks
The location of the hotel is beautiful, right next to the river Tweed, away from busy roads, very tranquil and having extensive grounds, right next to the abbey. Comfortable lounge areas (although the real fire in the main one was not lit on the first night, which was a shame), friendly staff. Comfortable and clean room.
The evening meal was a little disappointing, our party of eight were located in a side room which lacked the atmosphere of the bistro and made it difficult to access the waiting staff's attention. Initially, the room was a bit on the cool side, however the staff managed to provide a heater after we mentioned this. The burger meal in particular was fairly basic, with very little salad or other garnish, not great for the price. The service was a bit sporadic and there were long periods when no-one was around to offer condiments etc., it felt a bit like we'd been forgotten about. I don't blame the waiting staff for this, I think this was more likely to be a management/supervisor issue. Breakfast was very good, especially on the second day when a more varied menu was available (not sure why this was not the case on the first day), however the breakfast room was rather chilly compared to other areas of the hotel, a couple of space heaters would have rectified this problem.
Stunning location and beautiful surroundings. Have already rebooked. Staff were amazing, A must stay if your in the Scottish Borders
Breakfast perfect, service perfect, location beautiful, chosen specifically for its remoteness in nature and opposite the historic monastery.
Due to the historical building, the floor in the room is very inclined, but it doesn't really matter, just a strange feeling.....
