    Pros +

    • The breakfast was made to order, including full breakfast. The second morning, the restaurant was short-staffed so it took a while to get tables cleaned. However, the food was very good with orange juice, milk, bread/toast, jams & butter and cereal available. The rooms were huge and updated. Beds very comfortable.
    • Super friendly staff and accomodating. Nice room with all we needed. Everything worked well and felt comfortable.
    • The staff were lovely. Cooked Breakfast was good.Very accommodating when we arrived to help with my father’s disabilities.

    Cons -

    • Interior of hotel was a bit worn but the rooms were very nice. Nothing fancy about the breakfast room but what mattered more was the high quality of food and service (despite lack of personnel on our second day). Also, front desk staff was almost invisible, but no problem. Appeared to have limited parking... we got the last spot out front and did not see any more.
    • This hotel has SO much potential but it’s tired… very tired. Admittedly, we had a dog and so could have had a room that wasn’t their best. We had a family room which had no wardrobe… and so we couldn’t unpack and hang up things. There was however a few hangers on the back of the door.If you book a family room please make sure that if you have small children you ensure that the kettle is up high as the room that we had, the kettle was on a very low table which a child could very easily reach. On arrival, we were advised that the restaurant wasn’t open due to illness but hoped it would be open the next evening. Breakfast the next morning was good. We hadn’t booked it but was told we could go along if we wanted it. The cooked brekkie was good. We headed out for the day after brekkie and when we came back there were no hotel staff anywhere but a sign with a number to call was left on the reception desk. The restaurant wasn’t open and so we decided to come for a drink at the bar instead… alas that was also shut for the afternoon/night. It would have been nice for the Manager to have called and advised us that they were shutting up shop for the afternoon/evening.The next morning we thought we’d grab some brekkie before heading home but again there was no staff and no breakfast. I did call the number but nobody answered, I left a message and asked for someone to call to explain. I have yet to hear from someone.
    • Waited few hours for our babies cot bed, screws sticking up between the bathroom and room going in to the bedroom. Also plug on sink kept getting stuck and door wouldn’t close on the shower. Could hear dog barking in the next room from us none stop.

    Location

Tables in bar were dirty. Two in particular with sticky drink spills. Outside noise from people sitting on the terrace - after 11pm. Poor quality beds... ouch!

The hotel itself is a bit dated and in need of tlc, having said that, it IS an old, old building. Free parking on the grounds is plentiful. It is directly across from the car ferry port. On arrival, I was greeted by Pam, she was really so lovely, friendly and helpful. The hotel wasn't busy so she had upgraded my room to a far bigger room with a beautiful view of the sea. Pam was so efficient, and couldn't do enough to make my stay as comfortable a she could. I was there to escape for a few days of 'me time' after the most stressful start to the year for me. My room was spotless, the bathroom was huge and there was a beautiful big roll-top bath as well as a separate shower cubicle. My bed (a very long 4 poster)was comfortable and again very clean. There was also a corner sofa facing the TV which had Netflix and plenty of other channels to watch at night. The hotel was so quiet with a beautiful setting. One thing to look out for is that although it says on this site that there is no breakfast option, there actually is and it's very nice too, so maybe contact the hotel direct for that. Many thanks to Pam for her communication before my arrival, she got back to me really fast. I will return.

The only thing that was lacking was a couple of maintenance problems e.g missing secondary glazing in the bathroom which made it very draughty. This didn't affect my stay.

Breakfast was very good. Excellent location for ferry although a little far out from town centre.

Hotel was a bit dated and could do with some upgrading.

Lovely view and very friendly staff.

We were disappointed that the restaurant was closed and there were no draft beers in the bar!

Friendly, engaged staff in the form of the woman who looked after us. Spacious room. Wi-Fi was good. Bed was comfortable.

Our bathroom door would not shut, which wasn’t ideal and because of an insubstantial partition between us and the next room, there wasn’t as much privacy as one might have preferred to enjoy. The electricity tripped out on our floor on our final morning and so our shower wasn’t available. The helpful concierge offered us the use of a shower in a room in another floor but it had a faulty thermostat so that shower was either freezing or scalding. We passed all these comments on when we checked out and they were received in good spirit but we were asked to also provide written feedback.

Beautiful harbour side view. Staff were abs charming. Lots of hot water. Slept like a log.

Hotel getting a little worn looking but still charming. Also Dunoon a lovely place to visit.

Won't advise anyone to book here

I loved the sea view room, very Victorian style with a mix of class, big bath tub. Staff (Dillon) was so lovely, chatted away couldn’t have been any more helpful. Other staff were also very nice and could not do enough.

The atmosphere in the building is very good, but hotel with beautiful views of the water. I loved the bath tub. I loved the view from the room, my sister was in another room at back and her room was super comfy, clean, modern. Excellent value for money and we were not rushed to Check out. The walks around the hotel and also lovely. Dog loved watching the people walk past and the boats leave and come back.

Fabulous looking old building just across the road from the ferry

This hotel should not have been available for bookings. The bar and restaurant are closed, obviously maintenance work is being carried out.The bedding didn't fit the bed, no light in the bathroom, no soap or bodywash, very small thin grey towels. The towel holder fell off the wall, the toilet seat was loose. We paid £78 . It wasn't worth even £50. Looks like it was a grand hotel, but not at the moment.

Arrived for music gig - soon as we did the power went out . So did not get to shower and went to gig without one after long drive . Arrived back - no power OR WATER - couldn’t shower or flush toilet or make a hot tea or charge phones . Woke up - same scenario - no breakfast since power was off , no tea , no water to even flush the toilet . So had to leave on long journey back AGAIN without a shower or even tea and couldn’t even use the toilet . Spoke to man at reception who said contact booking.com to be refunded - I would assume given there were NO amenities that we booked and PAID for , this was the right thing to do . But no , booking.com have spoke to property who REFUSED a refund . We got nothing we paid for except a cold room to sleep in with no toilet or shower or electric and no breakfast we paid for in morning . Damn disgrace to refuse a refund for this after saying you would. You can either contact me to arrange a refund or I’ll be doing a chargeback at my bank . You had a chance to put it right and instead lied to a customer who paid for a service you didn’t provide - that’s absolutely terrible customer service . I work for IHG hotels and NEVER would be able to charge for a room if all that happened! Disgrace !!

Good location . Convenient parking. Warm, spacious room.

Tired decor throughout . Bathroom in need of refurbishing. Poor cleanliness in bathroom. Shower fitting coming off the wall. No soap /handwash in bathroom. No water supply in the hotel which was not repaired during the stay. Lack of staff available.

    2MeganPosted on: 12-9-2024

Staff were very friendly. Very apologetic for power and water issues.

Cleanliness of room was very poor. hair (some pubic) all over the bathroom (in toilet, shower and sink) Mould in shower and on shower head Pillow slip appeared dirty, like had not been changed. Only given one towel for a double room. Second room had no soap in bathroom. Power cut in the evening. Then no water. Could not wash hands, brush teeth, shower or even flush the toilet! Breakfast limited. Glasses and cups dirty. Trying to make toast cut the hotel power out! Asked for a refund the next morning. To be told we had breakfast when not entitled to it. (As if that would make up for not being able to flush toilet or wash hands! Just glad we didn't need a number 2 as it would have sat there all day!)

    1JamesPosted on: 12-9-2024

    The outside

No water in my room, couldn’t wash my hands after using the toilet, couldn’t have a shower, couldn’t flush toilet, had to go down to the bar at 1:30 in the morning to get water to take my meds, they wanted £12 for breakfast even though it was £6.95 on the website, glad I didn’t have it now cause I wouldn’t have known if the cook or sever had washed their hands. Couldn’t wait to leave.

    4DavidPosted on: 12-1-2024

    Staff were friendly.

Hotel was very dilapidated.Mattress on main bed was old and very wornSingle bed for son had stains on bed sheets.Bathroom had mold on the shower head, shower tray From front entrance all the way through hotel it stank of stale smell.

The Seaview room we were upgraded to for no extra charge had amazing views of the Clyde and the surrounding hills .Four poster bed was unique and added to the ambience of this beautiful buildingThe roll top Bath was an added bonus ? The room was clean and had plenty of furniture including a huge wardrobe corner sofa coffee table and a TV. Didn't turn it on, presumably it works ??

The bar was clean , unfortunately not very well staffed and opening hours seemed to be ad hoc.No draught beers at all ? pumps there just no beer .The restaurant is only open for breakfast which was a shame .The hotel was generally clean but a hoover on some of the carpets , especially the staircase wouldn't have been untimely. A late November stay could explain a few of these things .Overall we enjoyed our short stay of two nights and would probably book again .
