    Pros +

    • It brought back memories of our previous stays- 4.
    • The breakfast was fine. I didn't realize until day 3 that the hot breakfasts were also included in the price, but there was plenty to eat, even with the "continental". They have a small staff, but they work really hard, and are very pleasant and accommodating. The dining room is light and airy, and there are plenty of sofas in varying rooms, to sit and have a drink. The library is especially nice as well, with lots of windows, comfortable seating, and available books.
    • This place was just beautiful, well kept and very comfortable beds and an amazing shower after a long day walking. Really must say tho the steak pie was out of this world !!! Best I have had, the breakfast was also first class. We would definitely recommend staying here if you go to colonsay

    Cons -

    • We were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. I called when I booked to request a sea view room and order champaign and a little goodie for when we arrived as a surprise for my wife. When we arrived, no sea view and no champaign. The manager was very nice, apologized and made it possible for us to move the next day to a partial sea view. Manager did his best. The food servers we marginally friendly. It felt like a job they wish they didn't have to do. Not unfriendly, but not friendly either. One server was on the cell phone each time I came to request something- she did what I asked, but was on the phone, sometimes talking while getting me what I asked for. The food was sub par- very different than our last stays. It felt like the once magical place lost it's magic. Very disappointing.
    • As with most hotel rooms, there really isn't a good place to put 2 carry on bags, and 2 backpacks.
    • The superior room needed upgrading as there were a few issues including faulty light switch, broken window, paper squeezed in gaps to stop window moving, loo seat was loose, light bulbs out.Dinner menu was disappointing as very little local produce on offer.Although breakfast was quite nice there were no utensils for buffet selections. The outside had a few dead plants at entrance, disgarded cigarette butt's, weeds and the gates were needing replaced. Overall in need of care and attention. Considering it's the only hotel on the island they need to do better.

Location was great. Bar and public areas were nice including restaurant.

    The Location and food

The deluxe bedroom was small with little storage for clothes. The en-suite was tiny and basic. The cost was prohibitive considering the general lack of care and attention to decor and upkeep which could have easily been upgraded to a standard equal to the deluxe price paid.

Colonsay Hotel was gorgeous and the staff were very friendly. We had a wonderful time. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable, the common rooms were gorgeous. The food was phenomenal. Breakfast was amazing, incredible oysters at dinner. The island is easy to get around and the hotel is just outside of town but still near the ferry.

Our first room was luscious. The second room had not been remodeled, so it's hard to determine what you will be getting.

The hotel is beautifully situated outside the town and near the ferry. Road maps are provided, and the island is easy to get around. The common areas are gorgeous and cozy the restaurant is beautiful and the food was fantastic. Five stars!

Out first room was dreamy, just perfect. The second room had not been remodeled, so you can't predict what you will be getting. It was still very nice.

Beautiful surroundings. Lovely lounge. Very tasty food

    Nothing really.

Good location just 5 minutes walk up from the harbour, or one minute drive to the parking area. We had a standard bedroom which had a comfortable bed, was nicely furnished, with a good ensuite shower room. The several lounges, sitting areas and bar make the whole place a country house feel and centre of the island community. The restaurant looks out to the bay and serves a wide choice of delicious meals. The staff work very hard to give everyone a great stay.

Everything, the relaxed home-from-home comfort of the hotel, delicious food for breakfast and dinner, staff were all very courteous, friendly and attentive. Quiet, comfortable room, with own private bathroom. Liked the gentle Tony Bennett music one evening in the dining room. Very flexible where ferry cancellations and changes affect bookings. Thank you.

Not sure that the music (in French) in the dining room was to everyone’s taste, though I liked it myself.

Wonderful service, clean comfortable rooms.Wonderful front of house staff- a lovely Romanian lady who worked really hard to ensure everything was great for our stay

Ideal location. Remote but close to amenities. Peaceful. Picturesque views of the island. The hotel manager was very attentive and friendly.

    Difficult to find any fault

Clean, good staff, good food and a great location.

Our room (above the bar) was noisy at times. But it was the rugby World Cup and Scotland were playing…

Excellent location, wonderful lounges and bars- Exceptional breakfast and staff.

    10AlanPosted on: 10-16-2023

The breakfast was excellent every day, as were the meals we had in the restaurant in the evening. The staff could not have been more helpful and welcoming. The room was all we needed. What a wonderful place. We hope to come back.

Very little, it was all such a disappointment. Breakfast was ok.

There was no welcome or seemingly any 'management', the very few staff were 'too busy', the bedroom was smaller than expected and the ensuite ridiculously small. There was a cobweb on the bedroom ceiling and the wardrobe door fell off before we left early. When we appeared at breakfast the first morning there was no-one to say hallo. No TV or radio in the bedroom, no wi-fi which was needed to make further arrangements. Vastly overpriced overall and particularly the evening meal. We felt badly let down and disappointed, this was meant to be the highlight of our time in Scotland.

The only flight to Colonsay from Islay was cancelled 1.5 hours before we were due to travel on a Thursday. It was impossible to get there on a Thursday other than by a flight, the only boat goes on a Wednesday and although the hotel agreed to change the booking to the Friday, from Islay to Colonsay on a Friday would have involved going back to Kennacraig and then taking numerous buses to Oban and then another Ferry from Oban to Colonsay! completely impractical

Would love to have tried it, but alas it was not meant to be. Paid top dollar for the room and didn't get to see it. Maybe another time, but definitely not from Islay, despite it only being about 15 miles!
