Location and restaurant food was excellent
First time staying here booked room with a view very disappointed .. room was small one small window… room hadn’t been cleaned properly behind bed .. bathroom shelves not cleaned either.. shower pressure not good shower head wouldn’t stay upright… toilet door not on runners properly .. very noisy late evening and morning as room backed onto lift area and entrance door to hallway
Arrochar is a good place to start as a gateway to the propper highlands, as you'll have passed the busy Loch Lomond roads to get there. Views are available, but the end of the Loch Arrochar sits on is fairly tatty. Better lochs and views await farther north.
As with many hotels in Scotland, they seem to confuse "character" with "old, tired and dirty." Although this hotel is probably the best in the village, it has definitely seen better days and any renovations that have been done recently look like they were a favour from a local contractor, rather than interior designed. The floor is creaky and in the morning you'll be awoken to the sound of a thousand bangs - doors slamming to every room as people go to breakfast, so I hope you didn't expect a lie-in. There is a view from the hotel, but you'll see the carpark first, filled with contractors' vans and, if you manage to see past them, you will see the mountains and loch.In the evening the lobby/bar had a few miserable couples sat there, so we decided a walk to one of the other local pubs was in order. We didn't want to spend more time in the hotel than we needed to. Unfortunately, drinks at Arrochars' bars are more expensive than the fanciest London drinking haunts, so we had a pint and then found a local shop, afterwhich we sat like teenagers, drinking the bottles in the darkness. But the icing on the cake for us was our welcome - Arrochar's grumpiest man, the receptionist, who was cross that I wanted to read the piece of paper he wanted me to sign and then told me I should pay by card because it's better for him when we wanted pay in cash. He either owns the hotel or is Arrochar's last remaining local. Be sure to make his day if you do decide to stay here.
The only good thing this property had to offer was the view
Where to begin. It had appaling cleanliness. Dated decor, uneven floor boards. Stained, torn bedding, holes in bed sheets. Tables were all dirty , marks everywhere. Carpet had not been hoovered. Tap still running , multiple hairs in the bath. Bathroom products weren’t placed back where they should , used and left out anyold how. Side tables weren’t put back where they belonged. All furniture looked like it had been tossed about. Very disappointing. Attempted to contact the manager but heard nothing back.
Very reasonably priced, great location for hiking in the area and quiet night sleep. Lovely staff on reception.
Breakfast was £15/ person so we went to nearby Olive Branch for coffee and breakfast roll. Hotel is quite 80s but for the price, it does its job well.
The location is great
We've now stayed here twice and twice the first room was awful on to main road and window didn't shut we refused to stay in it and had to sleep in a twin room. We're married and never sleep in twin beds and that's twice we couldn't sleep in a double
Always a pleasure to stay at this Hotel. Comfortable, clean, excellent Staff..
Please ignore the negative reviews!!! A lovely gem of a hotel....and we're wonderfully welcoming to dogs, very relaxed atmosphere, beautiful lochsode view of the mountains ....allowed me to take dinner and breakfast to our room as my soon has anxiety, staff couldn't do more to help, food was lovely, breakfast was one of the beat iv had in a hotel yet , for the price we paid it was above what I expected, so please don't be put of by the reviews.....its a traditional old Scottish hotel , warm, cosey and friendly with soft comfy beds ........was a wonderful stay ...definitely will be going back again
The location was great as we're the views the staff were fantastic nothing too much trouble for them.very polite and attentive
Lovely location but you are missing something major for very little money you could open up a whole new customer base by having some rooms with a hospital bed and a higher toilet with hand rails i have motor neurone disease and would be happy to recommend if these were in place
Food prices
Lovely view.Breakfast staff were friendly
The man on reception was less than welcoming. The room was dirty, plaster missing from ceiling, stains on sheet and bed base, ripped pillow case, radiator didn't work. The kettle only worked if you held the switch down, one of the jets from the shower head fired over the top of the shower screen and soaked the bathroom floor, towels see better days. Cooked breakfast was poor other than the haggis.
Views from the bedroom
Food was mediocre, ran out of food at breakfast times, and I had to change my own sheets when my son had a nosebleed, as the cleaner stated he was too busy!!The rest of the staff were good. The decor was tired. Needs a complete revamp.
The evening food was good . The views were lovely.
No entertainment when we were told there would be . Bar ran out of vodka & beer at the beginning of the night . We were informed that they had forgotten to order the supplies. The reception staff were of little help . I complained but have not heard anything from them.
Room was basic but more than adequate, clean bedding and a decent bathroom
Breakfast was £15 per head for a "full scottish breakfast" when we went to the pass at the buffet there was literally nothing there. The only thing on the pass was a couple of slices of fried bread some cold hash browns and a tray of bacon. In fairness a tray of sausages turned up and we discovered a tub of dried up scrambled eggs. As far as I could see nothing else was added to the pass during our time in the restaurant deffinately NOT worth £15 per head for the offering provided. The hotel was full yes, but the kitchen should know the numbers expected for breakfast and be ready to keep the pass reasonably full and fresh . Brerakfast was served between 0800 and 1000 we went down at 0900. Poor.
Place to be in 1970s
Room allocated was very poor - two plugged-in electric stand-alone heaters to attempt to overcome large gap under room door next to open firedoor with staff coming and going in a corridor where clear other rooms were being renovated. Shower leaked across bathroom door. Reallocated to better room on first floor but walls not clean & lightbulb at alarming angle in bedside light.
Excellent value for money
Bedroom, dirty bathroom dog muck on carpet
Staff were friendly and welcoming. View over the loch was beautiful!
Rooms were very tired, bathroom towel rail was hanging off the wall and the bathroom door couldn't close without activating the lock. Room 117 was next to the staircase. Outside our window was a huge kitchen extractor, which was noisy and made our room smell of chip fat. I asked to move rooms immediately after checking in at 3pm. We were told no, as they were fully booked. Disappointing, as there were still guests checking in later at 6pm, therefore we clearly could have swapped rooms. Food was very basic, but edible.
Location, Breakfast, Comfort Lounge, Picturesque Views.
The bed and duvet - the bed wasn't very comfortable and I fought to get the duvet to come past my shoulders (I'm only 5ft2" tall), I was cold during the night and therefore didn't sleep.
