About

The extensively-refurbished Bridge House Hotel is set in Grasmere, directly across from St Oswalds Church and the graveyard where William Wordsworth rests. The hotel sits in its own mature grounds, with beautiful views overlooking the River Rothay. The hotel has an Art Deco design and is set in an elegant Edwardian house with some period features. All bedrooms feature private bathrooms complimented with luxury Bath House toiletries. Most rooms also offer stunning views of the river Rothay or the scenic fells. Guests are welcomed with cream tea with homemade scones and cakes upon arrival and the pantry offers complimentary tea/coffee also with homemade cookies. Each morning, the hotel offers a hearty breakfast. A range of cold platters and snacks are available to order, and the property can recommend and book local restaurants for an evening meal. You can also relax on site in a cozy lounge with a log fire, while the residents bar offers an extensive wine and drinks menu. Guests can use the leisure facilities at the property's sister hotel, The Inn Grasmere. Facilities include a swimming pool and sauna. Many mountain and lakeshore walking routes are available directly from the hotel. These include Helvellyn, Fairfield Horseshoe, Langdale Pikes, and low level routes beside Rydal Water and Grasmere Lake. Bridge House Hotel & Silver Howe View Cottage is less than 5 miles from Lake Windermere and around 13 miles from Keswick. Ambleside’s attractions include the Armitt Museum and 17th-century Bridge House. Free parking is included for guests.

    Pros +

    • Quiet. Cosy feel. Loved the log burner.Very relaxed atmosphere.Coffee and pastries available all day.
    • We stayed in one of the cottage rooms, never stayed in one of those before and it was very comfortable. We do prefer the main hotel rooms and have stayed several times before. The staff were different from last year, and they were all very friendly. The breakfast was delicious, as was the cream tea. The location is perfect for Grasmere, walking and getting the bus into Ambleside and Keswick. It's just a lovely hotel.
    • Spacious well equipped room. Good facilities in an excellent setting. The staff - Juliet in particular- were all fantastic.

    Cons -

    • We liked everything
    • A fridge in the room would be nice but that’s our only quibble
    • Nothing to report

Superb in every way. Clean, comfortable, quiet, excellent staff.

The fact that the position of the fixed shampoo container couldn't be reached when having a bath...fine for shower but too high for bath.

Great hotel in a good location . Staff were excellent , Mohiq looked after us really well & the breakfast was perfect

The room interior design could have been better but that’s just personal taste ( carpet / curtains ) Everything was new and the bed was comfy !

Staff were so friendly and helpful. Room was cosy and food was great at breakfast and evening meals

    No complaints

    9ChristinePosted on: 1-20-2026

The location and condition of the hotel were fantastic. The staff were welcoming and couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. The art deco style of our suite was lovely, complete with effective WiFi, tv facilities, a bath and a separate shower…The complimentary scone tea with cream and jam were delicious!!Really comfortable bed and a very spacious room.

One minor issue was the en-suite bathroom had a glass door, which although wasn’t clear glass, didn’t adequately hide the fact you could see toilet activity. We hung the robes on the door, but these weren’t long enough to cover the view.

Excellent 2 night at the bridge house hotel. Many thanks to Mohit for being kind and welcoming. The breakfasts were also lovely.
