About
Once visited by Oliver Cromwell and Henry VI, parts of Irton Hall date back to the 14th century. It retains traditional timber framing and other charming features, but offers modern amenities like free Wi-Fi. There are traditionally furnished rooms in the 14th-century tower, the converted ballroom, and separate self-catering apartments. All have a flat-screen TV, iPod dock, tea/coffee and a spacious modern bathroom. Irton Hall has as on-site bar, lounge and restaurant offering locally sourced produce and local ales and a range of beverages. Hearty full English breakfasts are served in the lounge bar, with a selection of lighter continental options also available. The hall is set at the foothills of the western fells of the Lake District, between Wasdale and Eskdale. It is a 10-minute drive from the Ravenglass Miniature Steam Railway and Muncaster Castle, with its owl sanctuary.

Location. Imposing exterior. Friendly staff
Spacious but dated bedrooms.
Beautiful grounds. Location difficult to find so I’d advise to stick to the main roads. Beautiful old building.
Accommodation was not what I booked. Dated and old deco nothing like the pictures. Cheaply represented with carpet that didn’t fit and very dangerous stairs. Would have returned if was as per booking and feel completely miss sold. For the price I expected what I’d booked. What I got was not worth the money at all.
Excellent food both here and at their sister pub down the road. Breakfast was excellent, freshly cooked and good quality. Full credit to a wonderful chef. The Hall is set in a lovely location, with a variety of chickens, peacocks, geese etc roaming free. They are very dog friendly and you can take them into the bar area. Although they can't run free in the main grounds, there are woods immediately behind, where dogs can be let off.Highly recommend this gem of a place - already booked for next Christmas!
It lacks 2 things - an open fire in the main building. There was a noticeable difference in atmosphere, when entering the function room for Christmas dinner. The fire in the centre of the room made a huge difference and people were using the bar.The 2nd point, is a wider variety of non alcoholic drinks including mocktails. I was disappointed with the limited choice and feel the Hall is leaving a large gap in the clientele, especially walkers and drivers.
We stayed in tge click tower, views and grounds beautiful, tge building lovely to look at.
I had tge very top room in tge clock tower, it felt cold overnight, the duvet to thin along with the pillows they need replacing. The electric shower a little dated, no very powerful and the skylight window needed a blind fitted to omit drafts and block out light. Very well stocked with utensils but couldn't find a hoover, rhat eould have been handy, and prosecco glasses would be a nice extra.
We stayed in a two bedroom cottage and it was exactly how they described. On arrival, it was easy to pick up the key to the cottage on Reception. The gentleman was friendly and explained where we could park and that everything would be on at the cottage. They did offer the facility to book an evening meal in their bar, but we were self catering. The heating was preset and on so the cottage was warm. They do offer a basic support package so they were clean towels and clean bedding. There was plenty of hot water and a Christmas tree which was nice. They don’t offer extras such as extra pillows or bedding. It is very handy for the station at Ravenglass. It was nice to see the peacocks, geese, and hens wandering about outside. The children loved the dog and cat who live at the hotel they were very friendly.
I think for us, the main challenge was the very bright security lighting that they have externally to the front of the cottage. The two single bed room is at the front of the property and has a thin white curtain meaning that it didn’t get really dark all night because of the lights given the children are used to sleeping in the dark we would need a blackout blind in that room if we ever returned because the children struggled to sleep. The kitchen offers basic crockery and pans. So for example I needed to have brought my own bowls for the children to eat porridge because the ones they provide are too small for 30 g ! There was a pan to make Bolognese, but no lid! I think it’s worth noting that they do take dogs so evidence of them e.g. Smell is within the cottages.
Location was perfect for us. The grounds were great. The log fire was a lovely touch. The price was great as this isn’t something we could normally afford to do.
Nothing it was all great
Good location, short drive to Scafell pike and surround by amazing landscapes. The room was very spacious and the food / hospitality was great.
Perfect for what we wanted
Incredibly friendly staff, lovely building & amazing breakfast.
Friendly helpful staff, comfortable spacious room, nice setting, excellent breakfast
Nothing - alll good
Easy check in and check out, close proximity to Scafell pike
We booked a dog-friendly room, which was a great size. The room and bathroom felt a bit worn and could use some updating, but overall it was okay and met our needs
The grounds and the drive, very impressive. Main bedroom mattress comfy. Just overall very tired. Strange smell on entry… almost as if someone had been cooking.
Very tired, dated furnishings, purple satin curtains and tie backs, in need of a revamp, carpets worn, bedroom flatpack furniture in the bedroom broken, divan base in second room faux leather peeling, broken and rotten windows, creaky floorboards.
Comfort the stunning grounds and of course the cutest of animals too.. how perfect is this place
We only stayed for 1 night
The rooms were clean and spacious. All the facilities needed were in place. The property was dog friendly, though the wildfowl outside on the lawns did send my dogs (spaniels) into a frenzy! The food was fabulous, had both breakfast and evening meal - compliments to the Chef
Beautiful location
Power cut during stay. Smarmy staff members. Room wasn't clean on arrival
The cottage itself was roomy and clean and comfortable for the most part. It was easy to find a close parking space. The location itself is amazing, as was the part of the hall that we could see and the grounds were lovely.
The bed was a bit lumpy for me. We had planned on having a meal on site, however it was closed for a private function which we had not been advised about.
Looks very impressive from the outside
Poor pillowsStaff somewhat unfriendly at check in
We were staying in one of the larger houses, which was a good size and should have been good.
Sorry to say it was very dirty. The housekeepers had obviously not been in since someone had been ill in one of the toilets. The kitchen cupboards and pots and pans were dirty. Staff were not helpful and reluctantly produced a bottle of mould and mildew remover (not kitchen or bathroom cleaner) when I went to tell reception about this. Also told to return it quickly as it was the only one they had!! Stood at reception for ages, ignored by bar staff who continued to serve at the bar, serving customers who arrived well after me. Only one member of staff redeemed the situation and apologised nicely. They also overlooked returning my deposit until chased more than once. I hope this was just a bad period but staff responses were sadly rude.
The staff were super friendly
Unfortunately this is an aging building not being taken care of properly, my room was damp and not properly cleaned paint falling off the walls, the toilet does not function properly so there toilet paper all over the toilet brush ,It is such a shame maybe if the owner spent some time really looking after the place it’s potential is endless.
