- Really cozy, great little inn with amazing food and even better pints (recommend the steak and ale pie). Fire kept the pub warm all night. Staff were really welcoming and friendly. Easy access to scarfell and great gable (picturesque 10 minute drive), would highly recommend!
- Friendly , nice environment, super comfy bed and bedding , excellent food.
- Great stay just my cup of tea, lovely old building full of character, staff were polite and very helpful, excellent food, and ale brewed right next door which was also fantastic, unfortunately had to cut my stay short, but would definitely stay again.
Cons -
- Rooms are a little dated but still really comfy
- The shower was not good and the bath didn't seem to have a working plug .
- Not much hot water pressure. I am too tall for everything but that's the way it goes in the UK.

Excellent beer and restaurant with fantastic options. Breakfast was simple and good. Just the right amount of friendly service and tips from the staff. Great value for the price.

Beautiful setting. The room we stayed in was spacious and full of original features. The bed was incredibly comfortable and had a nice bath and shower. The breakfast was the perfect set up to a day in the hills and the staff were all very friendly and attentive.
It’s what you expect from an old school building - it has quirks but nothing that detracted from our stay. Bonus that the staff were really nice, the food in the restaurant was hearty and the bed was incredibly comfortable.
Loved the location. A short distance from Wastwater. This is such a lovely Inn. Decent rooms, great food and drinks. It is away from the touristy side of Lake District so you wont see the usual crowds. The people that come here are adventurists and I enjoy this. Overall, it is a great place to stay.
Location, micro brewery, steak pie, staff
Room a bit dated but ok for price
Great location, bar, food and staff all top notch
Service was poor.. not down to staff, but lack of staff.
Food and staff were excellent, best Sunday dinner I've ever had, location is brilliant.
Screes Inn pub is closed, only open in the summer which isn't made clear upon booking. Room needed some TLC, wall paper falling off, stained bedding, month's worth of dust under the bed.
The location is perfect, it feels secluded but still close enough to a shop & lake spot! I personally loved that it was split into two and had lots of benches outside. The sun was shining and it is very quaint and cute! Can imagine it has a even better vibe in the summer when both pubs are open! - Although i did love how quiet it was. The staff were also very nice & helpful We ended up reserving a spot for dinner on arrival which was perfect as it meant we didn't have to do any more traveling that day and was close to the rooms. The rooms themselves had everything you needed such as hot drink supplies & towels. Super hot and powerful shower was an amazing start to the day followed by breakfast with the gang ready to take on Scafell <3
I honestly loved everything no complaints!
The food in the restaurant was to die for!!!!!! The staff and locals were super friendly. Located so close to scafell pike.
Rooms were basic and what you'd expect for what you pay for, but it was everything we needed!
Great location for Wasdale walks. Had a lovely steak pie one evening and staff very helpful
Great breakfast and evening meals. Comfortable room.
the food was goodstaff were helpful and moved our table reservation when we were delayed
The room was small and above the bar so noisyThe bed wasn't very comfy
Good food, good location , good parking, nice bathroom ,friendly staff, lovely breakfast, decent pint - very comfy bed. Tea coffee shampoo body wash and soap. Would definitely book again. Also a good range of pillows for all forms of sleeping positions . I usually have to take my own but forgot my pillow. It didn't matter. The bath was an added bonus to relax your muscles after hiking!
Nothing really, for the price I was expecting rough and ready with basic facilities and a bad back after an awful night's sleep, but got quite the opposite. Wasn't sure if we could have food as we hadn't prebooked but they fitted us in and it was very busy.
The room was a good size, the bed was comfortable. The bathroom is a bit small and the ceiling is low, but not a problem for us. Shower gel, shampoo and soap provided. Couldn't see any hairdryer but didn't ask for one as I had my own. The breakfast was tasty and so was the dinner (lamb burger and shepherds pie)? good beer selection. Staff were great ?? Very peaceful and beautiful location. Would stay again ?
Despite customer info a male member of staff walked into our room on the Friday uninvited by me, my daughter could have been changing. My children slept I had no sleep as the radiator did not work overnight only coming on at 6.30 when we were up, and the duvet was too thin so was cold all night. Also a security light outside was on all night, the thin curtains even with the liner meant the room was lit all night. Cobwebs in bathroom ceiling and toilet flush intermittent..£12 for a beer and two cokes and no variation in prices for evening meal. For the price it was a shockingly bad experience.
The place location is surreal. Not crowded and the food - we ate real food ??absolutely wonderful to have real meat n vegetables.
Location n food.
A very warm welcome. Excellent location and food.
Proximity to their own lake, Sawmill, trails, and, of course Brewery! Journey from Windermere to Strands via mountain road was totally unexpected pleasant surprise!
