    Pros +

    • Slow service but worth waiting for. Good selection of choices.
    • A lovely warm welcome from the lovely lad on the reception
    • Lovely hotel. Super welcoming and helpful staff. Spacious room and comfortable bed. All of this was eclipsed by the epic view. Stunning. Thank you.

    Cons -

    • Stair carpet worn in places. Bedroom heating not controllable, styfling hot, had to get cleaner to open window as I was afraid to because of the loose catch. Shower room was great. Very expensive bar prices. All in all hotel badly in need of a revamp.
    • Nothing to dislike the weather was even decent for beginning off February
    • Room was a bit warm and couldn’t figure out how to turn radiator down. Meant we kept window open and could hear the sea tho!

Location is amazing - literally right at the sea!

Room was a bit warm and couldn’t figure out how to turn radiator down. Meant we kept window open and could hear the sea tho!

Staff were extremely helpful, particularly at reception & the night porter. Plenty of choice at breakfast & hot food was cooked fresh to order & was piping hot. Fab view of waves crashing ashore from the breakfast room. Shower area was excellent, beautifully done with blue tiles & a good modern rainfall type shower.

If being really picky the sash & case windows need replacing, there is a wee draught, but it really didn't impact on our stay.

The location was nice, nice views

The property was a bit dated, the staff were very unlikable. The hotel has an uncomfortable feeling when you walk in disrupting a conversation like you are an inconvenience. We had guests join us in the evening for a catch up and the staff were very uninviting from us arriving back from our meal with them. The bar area was empty only us in it and they treated us like an inconvenience from the start. They were disapproving of my nephew who has adhd and was trying his best to stay calm then after 2 drinks they refused service which ended in the night shift guy physically pushing my brother in law out of the door claiming he tried to assault him!! Never in all my travels have I been treated so bad

Good location, good communication and friendly staff.

What a great place to stay, hotel spotless, food fantastic and the staff are so friendly and helpful, great prices Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a night away whether to relax,go sight seeing or just kick back in hot tub

That we only booked one night

Beautiful scenic location, easy to find, with a path down to the rocky beach and the most fantastic park/playground nearby (Lauderdale Park). The rooms are old but comfortable and clean and the bathrooms are newly remodeled and excellent! The water pressure was great and the shampoo and conditioner provided are local and organic and smelled good. A great place to stay for our family and if you have toddlers or kids don’t miss out on Lauderdale Park!

The only bummer was that we couldn’t stay longer!

Great stay. Hot tub room was fantastic and was really clean. Breakfast and dinner were great.

It was little bit dated but that didn’t impact the stay

    Location, rooms. Hot tub. Food

The building was old historic overlooking the the ocean Staff were amazing, always accommodating and the chef was flexible and always provided celiac meals that were amazing

The second bed supplied for our 10 year old was not comfortable at all. This was like laying on a concrete slab

The location is fantastic, the view from the breakfast room is amazing! The breakfast is very good!! Family bedroom was ok but would benefit from an update (only the bathroom was new and great!). Free parking is a bonus.

The spare bed for our son was so uncomfortable that he could not sleep. The family bedroom we were given would really benefit from an upgrade.

Breakfast was very good, freshly cooked and well presented

    Breakfast room was chilly

    5RossPosted on: 1-4-2026

Location is great and the staff were very nice.

Mattresses far too firm. An uncomfortable sleep. The single room (Room 20) was awful. The paint on the wall was all scraped off and there was a four-way adapter stuck to another wall - the health and safety compliance of which I’d question.Room 9 was fine, however the old single glazed sash and case windows are rotten, leaving gaps and making the room very cold. The bathroom was freezing. The corridors need some serious love and attention. It’s like nothing has been touched for 40 years.

We stayed at the Bayswell for 2 nights whilst in Dunbar for a wedding. The room was lovely- not huge but very clean and with a nice, big shower. Staff on reception were lovely. We didn't have breakfast so can't comment on the food.

We didn't have any complaints about the hotel at all.

    9GillPosted on: 12-27-2025

The view was outstanding and the new shower that had only just been installed delivered lovely hot water

    mattress was a bit lumpy

    9LisaPosted on: 12-23-2025

Both breakfast and dinner were good. Dinner on Sunday night was delicious and everyone in the company enjoyed they're meal too.

Hot tub situated below my room window. Rather noisy couple in it until midnight. So was difficult to get to sleep. Room was hot and couldn't open window due to the noise level. Did turn radiator down tho so that helped.

    9ClairePosted on: 12-20-2025

    Beautiful location

Bathrooms a little dated in the main house but the rooms with the hot tubs were gorgeous!

    9DeborahPosted on: 12-11-2025

The hotel has direct access to the sea and fabulous views. Staff were lovely, very attentive, and couldn't do enough. The room was comfortable. we had a twin room at the front of the building, so there was no sea view but a pleasant view of the hills. The area is very quiet as it is off the main road. The food, oh what can I say, try the Haggis starter and the Beef Weelington, they are a feast for your taste buds

Nothing to dislike about this place. Only thing I could say is the Hotel sign was a bit difficult to see as it's right at the top of the building but we managed to spot it when the sat nav decided we had arrived ha ha
