Cons -
- Nothing at all

- The staff in the bar are off the pace. When you come into the bar area they kind of ignore you and don't seem in a hurry to come over and serve you which is at odds with the staff in restaurant, reception, and at breakfast who are all excellent. It's been like that on all our visits. You have to beg for attention. Wasn't just us, we noted lots of people getting frustrated waiting to get a drinks order taken. That's why its a 9 and not a 10 out of 10.

Plumbing in Mews a bit dated
We were a party of 4 sharing 2 mews cottages. The cottages were very comfortable and spotlessly clean. We had everything we needed. Coffee & tea facilities, bottled water, biscuits. Flat screen tvs, WiFi, plenty of sockets for charging phones etc. Shower room was modern and spotless with walk in shower and toiletries provided. The main building is beautiful with huge fireplaces, beautiful wood panels and carvings. Each public room was beautiful. You could not fault the breakfast. There was everything you could ever want in the cold buffet and an excellent choice of hot dishes which were served by the waiting staff who were all friendly and helpful. In fact the entire staff were helpful, efficient, polite and friendly. I honestly don’t think I have stayed in a nicer and better run hotel.
Nice old house. Well looked after. Friendly staff. Good food.
Third visit and again a fabulous stay. The food here is really exceptional. The staff in the restaurant are brilliant, being friendly and attentive but never overbearing. Seafood dishes are a highlight. Mews rooms were cosy and quiet but they are different sizes, we had a much smaller room compared with our last trip and the bed (though VERY big and comfy) was squeezed in to extent you have to shimmy down one side and the other side has no room for a bedside table. Breakfast selection is very good indeed and all quality produce. Hotel is spotless and well maintained. Be aware there is construction on site (new annex) but we had no noise or disturbance of our visit.

Spotless room, very comfortable bed.
The bill was said with my booking credit card and I wanted to pay with cash.
5 Stars all round. Outstanding location. Lovely room. Nice and chilled hotel. Bar and restaurant were perfect. Special mention to Christine at reception who went above and beyond, with early check in and taxis etc. Also thanks to the Bar Staff for the late night refreshments and chat.
beautiful building and as far as I could see well maintained. very clean in all areas. staff very kind and friendly. Good food choices and of good quality.
No lift to top floor.
Location.lovely building. Lovely stuff, beautiful room..great breakfast
The room was absolutely freezing in the morning, heating was off....very uncomfortable
This is a beautiful hotel with very high standards. The staff are excellent and very helpful. The food was delicious and the staff in the restaurant are very efficient. We will return and would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to others.
It's a beautiful building and in a lovely part of Troon. My late parents had their wedding reception here in the 70's so I was keen to actually stay when visiting family for Christmas. The little mews house was very cute and cosy and our kids really liked having their own space in the living room which had a large sofa bed set up. The cleaning staff were very friendly. Twinkly lights were hung everywhere and it's clear a lot of money has been invested by the owners into the furnishings of the common spaces.
After driving for 8 hours and arriving with much anticipation for our Christmas stay, the man at reception was totally disinterested in us and even our children commented after that he wasn't nice or friendly. This was a bad start to our stay. Then at breakfast the gruff 'front of house' in a grubby t-shirt (no uniform?) was equally unpleasant. The actually breakfast was perhaps the worst fry-up we've ever had and we are not particularly fussy eaters. On the second morning I ordered an egg roll instead and what came out of the kitchen was like a hockey puck. My sister stayed after we left and said the breakfast was okay so perhaps we got the worse chef. We actually cancelled our festive get-together meal based on the poor quality of the breakfast food - short sighted of the hotel seeing as we would have spent a few hundred pounds on dinner together. My sister said during her stay the bar staff were all bitching about the work and other staff members - so unprofessional. We are now home and laughing about how bad it was but luckily the nice room and our family time made up for such a bizarre experience. As an Ayrshire person I was embarrassed about how gruff and unfriendly the two people I mentioned were.
This was my fourth time staying at the Piersland, so I knew to expect something a bit special, which we did get. The room itself was lovely. We were in a very "cosy" eaves room, well decorated, clean and great facilities (tea/coffee/biscuits/water/toiletries etc). Towels were lovely and fluffy and the bed was really comfortable.
We were in Room 2 and the bathroom was tiny. Hardly enough space to leave a toothbrush/toothpaste by the sink and no room to dry off after a shower without opening the door to the bedroom, which could be a bit awkward depending on who you're sharing with! Can safely say this is the only room I've ever had at the Piersland where the bathroom has been like this. Checkout was 11am and since we'd been at a Christmas "do" the evening before, we were looking forward to a lie-in, which we didn't get! It seems there was staff access next to our room and someone was banging in and out of it constantly from very early on. I get that people need to work, but in a hotel they should also appreciate that people are trying to sleep.
We love the hotel and the location. The food was very good.
A bit disappointed with our room, we had only one bedside table and it was quite small. The booking didnt match what we got. Suggestion re visit the description of the rooms as we dont have a bath at home and was looking forward to having one but we got one of the only 2 rooms that have no bath.
Brilliant service from all staff whether it be at check in, at the bar in the evening or in the breakfast room in the morning. Very beautiful hotel and would stay again
Beautifully maintained historic home. Comfortable lounges with real fireplaces.
Breakfast was good - lovely peppery black pudding, tasty sausage, good eggs.Dinner was superb with good wines. Location was great for proximity to the dunes and beach, a good walk to town.
Bar drinks were more expensive than expected.
Stayed for a wedding at the Piersland House and were really impressed by the beautiful setting and smooth organisation of the day. Our room was comfortable, the staff were attentive, and the overall atmosphere made the celebration even more enjoyable.
Understand that the hotel was fully booked. However:- The front desk could have been a bit friendlier and flexible during our stay.- It would also be helpful if the hotel offered a proper, designated place to store suitcases.
Breakfast and evening meal were both excellent quality food and great value for money,Perfect place to relax for the evening on our way to catch the ferry to Arran, we will be adding an overnight stay here on our future trips.
nothing everything top quality
Lovely cosy room and excellent restaurant.
Breakfast was ok but would have been nice to have some healthier options on the menu to order.
