- Very comfortable country manor house. Great staff - very friendly and helpful.
Cons -
- The whole hotel could do with a deep clean, from cobwebs in corners to tables needing a good wipe down. On arrival in reception empty drinks can on table (nobody at the table). Carpet in room rucked up so had to be careful not to trip over it.Bed not made with fresh sheets on our arrival, hairs and tissues found in the bed, blood stained duvet cover, which were changed immediately upon being told about, but really not acceptable. Finally at about 4.50am the fire alarm went off and not one member of staff was seen or heard from and no mention of it in the morning, by this time we had had enough and left early, without breakfast as we had had enough. This was a surprise treat for my wife's birthday and felt very let down by the whole experience.
- We were with someone with low mobility and there and many stairs and small steps up and down. The drive is loose gravel too which was hard going for the person with mobility issues One room had a radiator that didn't work but we were given an electric heater. We booked a double and a single room and the single was *tiny*
- Bathroom and shower in particular. Trying to figure out how to make the shower work was almost diabolical. And water pressure was low.

Very comfortable country manor house. Great staff - very friendly and helpful.

Excellent breakfast and evening meal. All the staff made us very welcome and had ensured I had a ground floor room with shower as I am disabled. The hotel architecture ,grounds and history are stunning.
Nothing could be better
Breakfast was a nice change - ordered food and it came freshly cooked and hot. Room was spacious and bed was comfortable.
No issues.
The property is stunning and set in a stunning location. Have stayed before and held private family functions here and enjoyed the facilities each time.
I travel often for work and leisure, and this was the worst room I have stayed in within the local area. The room smelt of damp, with visible damp. It was tired, with torn wallpaper and paint marks to cover some of the damp. The carpet was not hoovered, the cobwebs and spiders above windows and corners showed lack of care while cleaning. The bathroom had at least 5 hairs in the bath, the sink had toothpaste marks from previous guests, and sadly a marked toilet too. The bed was comfortable. I did express all concerns kindly to the staff at check out. They offered myself a refund of one paid breakfast which was not received. The staff were friendly, welcoming and polite. The room was within the outside stable block- and not one I would recommend. Certainly not at the price offered. Other hotels get it right, for less money.
Breakfast was delicious and they catered to my requests. The grounds are outstandingly beautiful, even in winter. Staff are friendly and helpful. Best of all for me, it is a short walk from the train station, as I was commuting to London.
It's important to state the context up front: this is a centuries-old manor house. Some of the plumbing was funny, the toilet needed to kind of "charge up" to flush, but I would expect that from a house older than my nation.
The staff were great, lovely area. Food was lovely.
The shower set up was to low.
The food was excellent and the staff very attentive. Church also easy to visit next door
The room was a little cold
Breakfast very nice good service
No outside lights bad walking down the drive
A staff friendly and efficientRoom service fast and good tasting meal for reasonable price for what you gettingGreat location with park next door
Phone to reception did not seem to work as well as hot water tap and toilet runs - but still got a good night sleep was there 2 days all the same problems there the second night as well no report back to me as to why they were not fixed the second time I reported it the person was not aware of the problem that I complained about on the first day.
Friendly welcome from staff on arrival and throughout our stay. Room was very characterful and comfortable. Cooked breakfast was of a high standard.

The evening meal was so good and the setting was so restful and quiet. The staff were friendly.
I was unable to turn off the radiator as the valve was broken. I only noticed before I was going to bed early at 9:30 pm and so slept with the heating on, and didn't alert the reception. I woke early as a result and should have checked the valve earlier on check-in, so something to consider next time. The full English breakfast was a disappointment as the sausages were not cooked well, and it tasted bland throughout. Great coffee though.
Friendly staff, getting showed to the room was a nice touch. Breakfast was delicious. Comfortable bed.
Could not fault anything except all photos on booking.com show a bath with a shower. Even the wording says a bath and a shower for facilities under room description. I always prefer a room with a bath. Unfortunately I landed up with a room with a shower only. That maybe needs to be corrected on the website. Would stay again but make sure I request a bath.
Excellent staff, very friendly and helpful when needed. Felt like home and they ensured we were comfortable.
The water took a long time to heat up from the sink and shower. It was also very cold in my room and the heater didn’t turn up very high. The other members in my group didn’t have that issue though.
The breakfast was excellent. A variety of options served by friendly staff. All staff were helpful and made us feel at home.Beds were very comfy . Nice touches included a coffee machine .The grounds were lovely- especially as we were with dogs .
There has been some renovation in the hotel but the decor around parts of the hotel needed updated . The bedroom had frayed curtains and worn carpets . As we had the dogs with at least we didn’t feel they would damage anything.
A warm welcome and very helpful team, especially the lady on duty for bar and then back for breakfast, very attentive
Room was a little scruffy but expected of a premises of this age, clean and comfortable
This was a return visit to one of my favourite hotels. Excellent food and very helpful and friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Hosted a dinner for 8 enjoyed by all.
Can't think of anything
Staff service and historic building. Good service at breakfast. Nice views of the state.
Some of the facilities and room features are a bit outdated: curtains, showerhead, old carpets with stains.
Lovely looking hotel. Old and quaint. My room clean, cosy, but was a little dated, especially the bathroom. But added a little to the charachter. Well priced. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Good value, would 100% stay again.
Had the eggs benedict for breakfast which wasn't the best, was served on what felt like cheap ham and muffins. The full english looked good. But the service was quick and with a smile.
