Pros +
- Fantastic view over the local hills.
- Location was decent
- The space, breakfast was lovely, staff were helpful
Cons -
- The property is very worn and tired, carpets stained and tatty that run through the whole hotel, the pool, steam and sauna are in poor condition and the jacuzzi has so much chlorine in you can’t breathe. Hotel was noisy in general, room was very small with fixtures and fittings loose or falling off. All in all just a very tatty place, staff also said food in the restaurants ran till 8.30 but when we went down just before 8 they said it was all closed. Not sure why a hotel restaurant would close so early considering the earliest most people eat on holiday is 7.30/8
- The spa was closed, which couldn't be helped, but was a shame. The food was fine, but not quite up to what we'd hoped for such a nice hotel. Slight lack of atmosphere in the bar/lobby area, it could have done with some quiet music.
- Parking a bit of a mess outside the front of the hotel.

The gin tour was fantastic, the distiller really knew his stuff and made it very engaging. The pool is lovely and the staff were all very helpful.

Lovely hotel with lots of character, lounge and restaurant areas fantastic. Staff very accommodating and helpful. Dinner and breakfast the restaurant were great.
Parking a bit of a mess outside the front of the hotel.
We booked a 'feature room' - it was very comfortable and well equipped with beautiful views. The staff throughout the hotel were very pleasant - professional, polite, helpful and very pleasant. The food was lovely. The breakfast was very good. The gluten intolerant one of us said they had never had such a wide choice of hot breakfast items. (It was a buffet, but replenished frequently. I'm sure if there were concerns about allergies and cross contamination at the buffet, staff would be happy to serve breakfast from the kitchen)It is a good location within the town of Peebles, easy walk to shops , main street and also for river walk.
Mmm, you can't do much about the weather but it didn't rain all the time... The grand steps down to the activity areas could do with some maintenance, perhaps its not fair to comment on the grounds in the winter months and there are other routes down.
Staff, food, rooms and comfort
The main reason I booked was the range of amenities, particularly the spa, as we were looking forward to a relaxing weekend. Unfortunately, upon arrival, we discovered that the spa was closed for refurbishment. At no point prior to our stay — either via the hotel or the booking site — were we notified of this closure.Given that our stay was specifically planned around using the spa, I feel it would have been fair to be informed at the time of booking. This would have allowed us the option to either adjust our plans or find an alternative suitable arrangement.Aside from this issue, our stay was very enjoyable — the room, food, and staff were all excellent. However, the spa was a key part of the experience we had hoped for, and its closure was a disappointment.
Food was great
Was a bit dirty and welness and jacuzzi was out of use was dusapointing as it was a valintines gift
Location. Ambience. Breakfast.Staff.PoolGood to see extra seating along the hallway now.Well heated in the communal areas with the fireside sofas offering a cosy area to relax, snooze and purchase tea/coffees from the nearby kiosk.
Steps up to bathroom in our room. Not good for an older couple.Lack of indoor entertainment and activities in the evening for both kids and adults. The quiz night was a good idea but venue too small so some guests couldn't join in as all the tables were taken in the cocktail bar. No events on the Friday night (of Valentine's weekend!) A pianist playing opposite the lounge area would have been good. There was a Scottish variety show on at the Eastgate that night (13th) which we went to and thoroughly enjoyed. If it had been advertised in the hotel, this would have boosted audience numbers at the local theatre and could have given other guests a similar great evening out.
Great room and staff, very nice grounds to walk around
Didn't enjoy the breakfast as much as a previous visit. Felt that the standard had gone down. Coffee not very good
Our room was amazing. We had a corner room facing the hills. The room itself was comfortable with a big bathroom and the views were breathtaking.
There didn't seem to be an only adults space like a bar or a lounge. It would have been nice to enjoy a drink in a more relaxed adult space. Also the pool was so busy we could not use the facilites.
Mostly everything
The room we had was great, however it was part of an extended family room an the connecting door between the rooms meant each guests could clearly each other. Not ideal. But we did love our stay.
Friendly staff, breakfast excellent, good facilities although pool area very loud and jacuzzi out of order. Gym excellently equipped
Our stay at Peebles Hydro was delightful. The location is superb and it has such an amazing history which can be gleaned from the photographs and information all around the hotel.
The only hiccup was on the first night. The room our daughter and family were staying in was cold, but this was rectified once brought to the attention of staff.
I like the location of the hotel. It is just a short walk from the town centre. I liked the spacious clean and cozy room. The swimming pool, steam room and sauna were great. The breakfast was really good too and catered to all dietary requirements.
There was nothing I disliked.
Great location
Poor pillows in bed!Had to go outside to get to rooms.Buffet breakfast was just a free for all? Much prefer the personal touch at being served.
I was in a room directly facing the elevator which was quite noisy so i asked to be relocated. The lady at reception went out of her way to accomodate me and showed me several rooms (luckily it was a quiet time of year). Unfortunatly I am such a light sleeper and the other rooms had issues from outside generators to whistling raidiators so I ended up back in my first room. After a certain time of night it did go quiet and like I say it wasn't a very busy time of year but I was very grateful for the assistance in trying to find alternative accomodation.
The swimming pool does get very busy as it is used by outside visitors as well as guests. It is also a leisure pool so be aware young people can throw balls and swim on floats etc. (which can be quite difficult to swimmers)
Clean tidy and staff were always professional and friendly
Didn’t realise our room didn’t have a balcony which would have been nice- it was booked as a present for mums 78th birthday
The location The view from my room The swimming poolThe cosy cocktail bar The food The staff
The miss match of furniture and furnishings made it feel tired and in need of a cash injection
That you had a restaurant on the premises, great meal as well , staff are very helpful from front of desk in the restaurant even breakfast staff was great. Well looked after.
Only thing was the room with shower near front could smellDamp but stay was comfortable bed was clean ectr
