Cons -
- The heat was out when we arrived. They contacted us prior which was nice, but really just didn't seem to have any concern while we were there. No offer for space heater despite them using one behind the front desk. 3 nights with no heat
- The young staff at reception really didn't care if you needed something. Simple pillow & no movement or follow up
- The bathroom, whilst lovely, was a little dark.

Recently renovated 100+ year old hotel, now owned by Macrihanish Dunes Golf Course people. We were amazed by the room size. Huge bath with excellent shower. Great beds. Just a really neat throwback experience with modern comforts. Good food and breakfast in the restaurant. Parking on the street was surprisingly easy and free.
The weather on arrival! Heavy rains with gale force winds (literally), but the hotel was dry and the haunting sound of the gale outside was cool. Really no complaints at all.
The staff were very friendly at the hotel and in the restaurants. They went above and beyond to accommodate an early breakfast at 5:30 am before we departed. The room was very nice, high quality bedding, great views of the town, etc. really enjoyed the stay and if we come back to Campbeltown, I would not think twice about booking here again.
Nothing!
Staff went above and beyond. Everyone was friendly and accomodating
Wait on dinner a bit long but good was good
The perfect blend of a historic hotel with modern amenities. Picturesque view of the harbor, great room size, comfortable bed, fantastic water pressure in the shower! Walking distance to shops, restaurants and distilleries!! We would absolutely stay here again in the future!
The food in the hotel restaurant and pub was just okay. Most of the menu options were on the heavier side. Guessing that's normal for Scotland?
Location, Alison at reception was fantastic as was all the staff, food good, room was good, view overlooking the marina, overall , we will stay again.
Breakfast was expensive for what it was at £18
Fabulous hotel with exceptional level of service. The little details all add up. Great staff, really excellent food and very comfortable rooms. Puts most modern hotels to shame. Bathroom was very spacious with a full size bath and a separate and very effective shower. On top of all this is the location and very easy roadside parking. Loved every minute of my stay. All the staff were wonderful but special mention to Alison.
My only mild criticism was that my hotel room was very warm. To some this might be a bonus. Easily fixed by opening the window (yes! You can do this here!) and turning off the radiator.
Receptionist (Lourdes), very friendly, pleasant and welcoming. Restaurant staff also very friendly and pleasant. Hotel throughout very warm.
We have stayed at the Royal many times in the past. The hotel rooms are its best asset.
Don’t eat in the restaurant anymore. Hasn’t been great in the past and there are many other options close by. Probably should try it again.
Very comfortable - great location- staff externally helpful
Could do with brighter bulbs in the rooms
Location was amazing and we eventually found parking in the streets nearby. We had a classic room. Located on 3rd floor with a lift. Bed was comfortable.
There was an electric kettle but nowhere easily accessible to plug it in. There was no refrigerator. There were bedside tables but because the floor sloped a bit things tended to slide off it. I did mention this at checkout
Good choice of food and good quality, staff very friendly and service good
Enjoyed my stay
very friendly staff , huge room. very good restaurant.
Room was huge and had a great view.
The food was not great.
Men’s socks in drawer. Earplugs on the carpet. Telephone not connected to room. Tv wouldn’t work. Had to go down in the lift to reception twice (as I couldn’t call down on the room phone). Cushion cover zip broken stuffing hanging out. I expected much much more for the price, very disappointed. Morning reception staff were lovely.

location is perfect
totally overpriced, lovely rooms, don't get me wrong but the price you pay and don't get breakfast, outrageous. Breakfast is £18 pp. We went across the road to Cafe Bluebell, £20 for two breakfasts with tea, coffee and toast.
Breakfast was reasonable I enjoyed the kippers though everything else was pretty pedestrian
Better Bread choice of Juice and the decor is very dated especially for the current price.
Everything. The room looking over the harbour was very spacious, very comfortable and luxurious. We loved the period decor and could not fault anything. We also enjoyed a drink in the Black Sheep Bar, and dinner in the Harbour Grille dining room. The reception staff were excellent, and having a lift was very convenient. We were very sorry we could not stay more than one night. We highly recommend this hotel in Campbeltown.
Nothing. Everything was wonderful.
