Pros +
- Fabulous wooden lodge in a beautiful location.
- The main house, dining room, assorted sitting rooms and coach house are beautiful. The level of service in the dining room was 10/10 when I was there. The food also was excellent, with a price tag to match no less. The setting is glorious and the treatments in the coach house were incredible
- Callow Hall is a gorgeous historic property, the styling is immaculate and immediately creates a relaxing and welcoming environment. We decided to stay in one of the Hives and I’m so glad we did, Rosebay was situated in the middle of the woods next to the hotel and the views of the countryside and bluebells were beautiful and calming. The food and drink was also excellent. The staff were professional but laid back. We can’t recommend highly enough!
Cons -
- My ‘Hive’ in the woods was certainly comfortable but a few additions IMO would make it worthy of the price tag. A luxurious indoor feature bath! A comfortable indoor seating area, there was only a chair and table.Maybe the gorgeous decor of the main house echoed in that of the Hives. There were handprints on the glass windows, empty shower cap box and a toothpaste splodge in the bathroom when I arrived, apart from that it was clean ?However it is still most pleasant and I enjoyed my stay and I would still massively recommend this hotel. An enticing offer of B&B would be much appreciated
- We liked most things but did think more light was needed in the hives, it felt a bit dark at times!
- The dinner was lovely however we was sat next to one of the windows and it was very cold and drafty. Abit expensive for what the food was.

Hotel was amazing. Rooms were clean and staff were lovely.
The dinner was lovely however we was sat next to one of the windows and it was very cold and drafty. Abit expensive for what the food was.
Very welcoming - lovely gentleman who showed us around and took us to our room, carrying our bags. Loved the eco and sustainability ethos of the hotel. Wonderful open fire in the check in area. Complimentary chocs went down well too. Beautifully decorated and great location. Lots of lovely welcoming touches.
Breakfast items were individually priced - would have preferred a set price for a full breakfast.
A cosy and welcoming property, with lovely luxury touches in the room such as a treat jar, radio, and luxury shower products.
The food was overpriced for the quality
The staff were delightful. The property is amazing, it smells divine too and the location is out of this world.
TV tech in the bedroom couldn’t link up my iPad. No access to freebies catch up channels.
The restaurant was very modern and light.
The hives were disappointing, the service was poor, the facilities were poor, the management seemed poor.
It was a beautiful boutique hotel - we had a slight issue with the room to begin with, and it was sorted and they couldn’t do more to make it right throughout our entire stay. It surprised us actually how much they went out of their way to make it special for us. Couldn’t recommend this hotel more.
Nothing - it was stunning.
We stayed in room 1, the views were amazing and the room was fabulous, the bath by the window was so lovely. The food was sensational as was the service.
Nothing at all
Dinner and breakfast was fantastic so was the bar and all the staff
Beautiful room and property. Large, comfortable bed and bedding. Blissful. Very helpful staff.
A little noisy upstairs. Would be great if the water was refilled in the fridge in the hallway. Breakfast was additional.
Beautiful property in great location for walks and friendly, helpful staff
I thought breakfast ought to have been included at the price point. The hives are quite close together. Doesn’t feel very private
Every room a delight to the senses - visually the rooms were very tastefully decorated throughout the hotel (particularly liked the array of rooms downstairs with fires, available for mingling privately prior to supper) and each smelled incredible. The hallway as you enter the hotel instantly sets the scene for an escape to luxury and relaxation.Especially liked the two chairs by the full length window as you climb the stairs - fabulous.
Breakfast generally a little sub-par and somewhat expensive for what you got. Happy to spend on quality for supper but felt this let it down somewhat.Wasn’t told milk was available in a hidden fridge in the hallway.
The Staff were helpful and polite.
The room could be cleaner. Even though we made sure to leave our boots by the door the room was filled with stones etc…. Presumably by the staff that went in to fill amenities and they didnt hoover the floor. The next day the sheets where not changed or clean just tidy. Only one side of the ebd had plug for movile charge. There was a huge spider in the toilet. I think on the cleaning side of things it could be a little better. We did appreythe balloons and card as gesture for our anniversary weekend stay.
The bar and restaurant area were beautiful. The open fire was very cosy.
Service was a bit slow at breakfast.
Lovely, comfy rooms, roaring fires, warm even in the depths of winter. Bed was great - very big and comfortable and bathroom large with a splendid shower. Staff were lovely.
The accommodation was superb. Restaurant a bit disappointing- expensive, food OK but not exceptional.
The hotel itself is beautiful
For the amount, we weren’t made to feel that special or welcome. They’d run out of a few things, forgot our order a couple of times etc
We booked the hive and it was lovely. If you like a quite holiday within nature, this is the place for you! The view from the room and terrace was lovely. Each hive is given their own mini Christmas tree! The hive has a small kitchenette which was also very handy. We were also provided with a nespresso machine, some crisps and some biscuits, which was a nice touch. There was also a mini radio which was lovely.
The options on TV were not enough. Given, around 500 pounds is charged per night the TV could be provided with Netflix, Prime etc.
Location and friendliness and attention of staff which made my wife on her 70th birthday celebration feel special.
The carpark was disgusting and muddy, not what you expect from such a prestigious establishment and needs attention. You also need more car parking when you have large lunch events like you had Thursday, can I suggest you organize something off-site and bus guests in.
