Pros +
- Clean, comfortable, good location for Cotswolds way
- Lovely position, near the top of Cleeve Hill, with panoramic views over Cheltenham. Easy car parking. The staff were all very friendly. We had dinner in the hotel, which was served very quickly and was well presented, with a good choice of familiar ‘pub grub’ type dishes. Breakfast provided a choice of hot dishes, cooked to order, and a buffet for continental breakfast items. The Greek yogurt and fruit were lovely, as were the eggs royale. The room was a little ‘tired’ as others have commented, but was adequate for our needs. The bed linen and towels were good quality and clean.
- Staff were lovely Food was great
Cons -
- I found little space for clothes to put away, hanging space OK.
- Bus to location isn't very frequent

Hotel needs updatingRoom very warm
Friendly staff, beautiful location with excellent views, good food and warm comfy room. Couldn't fault the whole experience.
Location great, food typical greene king pub food so cheap and cheerful
No drawers and hot water was inconsistent going very hot to cold continually making showers take longer but plenty of hot water
The pub and my room were clean and tidy
The food in the evening was very disappointing, it’s a long time since I’ve had a burger that bad.
Location was perfect. Outstanding views.
Bar closed too early. For almost £200 a night, surely guests should be able to get a drink after 11pm?
Friendly staff, good food, decent pint and the room was warm and comfortable.
A bit of confusion over the breakfast but this was resolved. No real negatives other than it's on rather a steep hill for the evening/morning run!!
Location
Staff member at check in quite clearly resented us being there and taking her valuable time. Staff member at check out too busy with personal call to check us out. We ended leaving the key and departing.
The property was in the most beautiful location. The view from our window was beautiful. Also the view from the garden and bar was amazing I could of sat all day just looking at the view ☺️☺️☺️
The room was very dated Needs a freshen up. Bath had lines down it. Shower was unpredictable and burnt my partner. Curtain pole hits you as you walk in because it’s no where near straight. Was nice being on ground floor. You could Just step out the window (picture to follow). That’s if you could open the window. Was so difficult to get it open just 10inches. On a good note. It was warm and the bed was comfortable. Shame the rooms Are not in par with the rest of the building
The location was perfect for me as I was visiting family, the view from my room was amazing,my room was lovely and very clean and the staff were friendly and helpful I would definitely stay there again
This hotel is a little gem x. Great value, food was excellent, wonderful views, spotless clean, great friendly staff in every department of the hotel, will definitely return loved our stay here x
Beautiful spot but large tvIn room didnt work small portoins for main mealbeer very average and expensive
a tv that worked and better food portoins and better quality beer
I’ve been to the pub many times, but the was the first time we’d stayed. The area is great, the staff are friendly, it’s right next to cleve hill, and the room had a nice view over Cheltenham. The shower pressure was great.
The room was very dated and basic. It was boiling hot, the bed wasn’t the most comfortable and the floor was sticky in places. We were given no water and the water that came out of the bathroom tap was cloudy, there weren’t any other water facilities after the bar closed. No power sockets next to the bed
The breakfast is superb. The location is amazing. The view from the room and restaurant is stunning.
I felt some racist behaviour from only one staff member, who is responsible for checking room numbers at the restaurant for breakfast (who has short blonde hair). However, the other staff were really nice and welcoming. The room needs some decorating.
Location and friendly staff
The room was 'tired' and in need of an upgrade
Receptionist gave a friendly welcome.
Creaky uneven floor & noisy hallway/doors and people right outside bedroom window.
The location for the racing is ideal, within walking distance if you're feeling energetic. All the staff we spoke to were polite and helpful. The food in the restaurant caters for most tastes, whether it's at breakfast, lunch or an evening meal. Whilst it isn't Michelin starred (and it doesn't pretend to be) it is value for money and is perfectly acceptable.Overall the Rising Sun is definitely value for money.
The venue is a little tired in places and could do with painting in a few areas it certainly didn't spoil our stay.
The view nothing else
The room. Very creaky floor boards. No grab handles over the bath. Only one hand towel. Dusty. Very hot in the room at night. Bed not comfortable.
