Cons -
- The hotel is very pro dogs. For example while eating our amazing breakfast in the dining room we counted two couples without dogs in there and 6 couples or families with dogs. There was occasional barking and fights. We do not mind dogs but having them in the dining room spoilt the breakfast for us.The last 500 metres to the hotel from already narrow Devon lanes is even more narrow. I would not suggest staying there if you are not very confident in your reversing skills should you meet someone coming the other way.
- This hotel desperately needs a renovation, everything seems old and outdated, be it the rooms, the corridors, the swimming pool. It's a shame, as the location is really great and it would have a lot of potential for a charming hotel. The room was not too clean when we checked in (a lot of dust under the bed and on top of the shelf etc). Room cleaning was also not great, they didn't even tidy up, let alone clean. I think they just came in and did the bed.EV charging station is bad. There is only 1 (usually there is a big queue, so don't count on charging your car if the hotel is busy) and the charging is very slow (7kw).
- The bathroom tap was leaking, which was annoying during the night as you could hear the water dripping (room 11).Although the hotel has a very nice swimming pool, decent in size and pleasantly warm, a quick daily clean of the floor would be appreciated. The beds were not comfortable; we could feel the springs in our backs and couldn't get a restful night sleep, so we decided to shorten our stay and leave a day earlier. We had already paid for the full stay, as it was our decision to leave early. However, the following day we received a phone call asking us to pay for our stay. It seems the receptionist hadn't properly checked the system to confirm our payment.Mistakes are part of being human, but after sleepless nights, the insinuation that we left without paying felt really unpleasant.Always double-check!

Stunning location with the most gorgeous views, just a magical setting surrounding by beautiful countryside and views of the sea.Staff were lovely, especially with the children and everything was very family friendly and convenient. A highlight was the mealtimes, a nice relaxed setting for the kids but with fabulous food and lovely service. The pool was a great bonus. Thanks so much for having us and putting up with our rather overexcitable children ?
All fantastic!
Staff good. Location good.
Breakfast cold buffet was good. Hot disappointing. Reheated potatoes. Low quality sausage. Mushroom one and tough. Beans low quality. Rest ok. Swimming pool cold. Room good size but cold at night with thin duvet.
All staff were wonderful
I stayed two nights. Sunday morning, the breakfast had a wonderful choice. But the following morning, they had no salmon left, no greek yoghurt and no muffins. The maid needs to learn to knock before entering. Barged in Sunday morning and tried twice the following morning but learnt to lock my door!!! The aircom wasnt working in the gym.
Everything! The staff; the food; the accommodation and the location were all outstanding.
nothing!
The view and sunset was unbelievably beautiful and sort of unexpected. Staff very attentive and nice, pool was big bonus, the dinner was very tasty. The chips were perfect and I had the seabass perfectly cooked and husband had the fish and chips. The crumble was the best I’ve had!
Slightly worn carpets. And if I came for the spa I would have expected more although for the price of the b&b it was far better than I would have expected so the pool was actually like a bonus for me! Dogs loved running around on the grass straight from our patio
Stunning location, top facilities and such kind welcoming staff
Family run, friendly and attentive service, providing a home from home atmosphere.
Always happy to return back to the Soar, whether i am alone, or with the family.Food is always excellent and it is also so nice to use the spa facilities. This time i also had a massage with Niki and that was great too.
There is nothing that I do not like
Views were exceptional and staff were amazing. Loved how dog friendly you are
Communal toilets by bar dirty but was half term week
The location was fantastic, good facilities and friendly, helpful staff.
There was nothing that we didn't like.
The location is beautiful and peaceful. All staff were friendly. The swimming pool was really nice. The room we were in was pleasant with a good shower and a seating area outside the patio doors. The evening meal was tasty and breakfast was delicious.
Some really simple tweaks would elevate this hotel so easily:- better kettle in room (the current one felt very cheap and was difficult to use)- better TV in room (the current one is very small)- our double bed was just two singles unevenly pushed together, leaving an uncomfortable central section.- while all staff were friendly, some were clearly less well trained and forgetful- the pool area could easily house two more deck chairs- some communal areas were a bit untidy, which was a shame as it is a nicely designed interior. But things like a scruffy, uncleared bar area made it uninviting.- there is a smell in some communal areas of drains, which is unpleasant - in the evenings, the eating area could be made to feel a bit nicer, e.g. some candles, so that it feels different to breakfast.
Amazing location. Really relaxed and easy access for family pool use. Hot tub was a real bonus
There were TV's in all the rooms but didn't seem to have good reception or access to basic freeview channels. BUT it did ensure we played games and read which actually made for a better stay!
There to celebrate my 60th birthday. Originally booked a 2 night stay, but spa therapist wasn’t there for a facial and massage so we changed the booking. We Loved this hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful. Housekeeping were brilliant as I spilt some coffee 5 minutes after being there. Food was exceptional. Went for a walk down to the cove, such a beautiful place.
Nothing to dislike
Location, views, friendly staff, cleanliness, comfy large bed.
It starting to feel the interiors could do with a little update.
The staff were lovely and made us very welcome as a family of 6 for a celebration weekend. The food was excellent.
The breakfast and main meals were exception staff were very good and the hotel is in a very picturesque area look forward to go back again in the Summer highly recommended
Nothing keep it the same
Great location, good food and service
Room had no window to open at night so very warm, room quite smelly of damp or dogs.
