Pros +
- Excellent location on the beach near Salcombe with lovely views across the water. Sun streams in the restaurant at breakfast time. It was light and airy throughout the hotel. Ferry point to Salcombe right outside the hotel. Food in the restaurant was first class as was the service. Excellent parking facilities. Thoroughly recommend this hotel.

- Location is stunning, restaurant is excellent, staff very nice
Cons -
- We've stayed here twice and both reviews would be glowing, however a slight taint...This is an expensive hotel, but is so because of the excellent location. We spent £650 for a room and restaurant bill for 1 night. We left a phone charger behind (our fault) but were a bit surprised to be charged to post it to us - that sort of falls in the "concierge" realm for other premium hotels, but hey, if that's policy, it's policy.
- No points for improvement!
- Lacked atmosphere Didn’t put the rugby on Bar limited

Quality natural and beautiful decoration with glorious views, especially from the terrace while eating breakfast and dinner. Helpful and friendly staff made it a wonderful stay.
Expensive (as are all places to stay in this area), but turned out to be worth it. Fabulous breakfast, with loads of choice and hot course was exactly as I requested. Wonderful seafront location. Spacious room with all I needed in it. Staff kind enough to lend me a charging plug as mine had failed. Breakfast time was wide - both early and late which is ideal.
This is possibly my favorite hotel, where I have stayed many times over the past 45 years. As an extensive global traveler for both business and pleasure, I can confidently say it ranks among the best. However, they need to improve their attention to detail in room servicing, especially in the restaurant. The location is undoubtedly the best, situated on the beach at South Sands, and it is both dog- and family-friendly, providing baskets of towels and blankets for four-legged friends. The restaurant and terrace invite you to take in the beauty of the South Hams. While the food offerings are not extensive, the quality is good; however, restaurant management and attention to small details have diminished since my previous visits. Perhaps the absence of a strong manager is contributing to this decline. The rooms are stylish, but we booked two rooms of the same standard, and while one was large, light, and lovely, the other, located in the eaves, was quite small and dark. So, be cautious about what you are allocated. During our three-night stay, we had to request water, which should have been provided in the room but was forgotten. Additionally, there was never a restock of tea and coffee, nor was there any type of milk available. That said, I love this hotel; simply sitting anywhere within it brings a smile to my face and warmth to my heart. Stay at South Sands; it could be perfect with just a few checks and minor improvements. Love is seldom perfect, but you will still adore this hotel.
Location stunning, food excellent - varied menu and food cooked to perfection. Staff friendly and efficient.

Great location, food and service.
Great location. Excellent meals especially the breakfast and very helpful staff.
Lovely hotel in a great position. Only complaints are the quality of the pillows - very thin and floppy, and although I know it has to be there, but the smoke detector in the middle of the bedroom ceiling that flashes every 12 seconds is really annoying and kept me awake for much of the night - I could still see it through closed eyes!
Nice hotel in a great location on the beach. Great views from the restaurant/bar.
Everything excellent facilities for dogs. We were a party of 8 plus 2 dogscelebrating a very important day and were very well catered for.
Nothing?
Great position, just off the Coastal Path which we were walking. Very good bottled beer !
Unfortunately there was a very rowdy group of 11 men who were behaving so badly, very very noisy, we complained but the hotel did nothing to make the group quieten down. The staff were fantastic and we all felt sorry for them, no manager was present !! I will be taking this matter further with the hotel management as this completely ruined our stay ! Will be interesting to see if the hotel contacts me ! I will certainly be contacting them, 0 out of 10 because of this.
Fantastic location, great staff and food
Quiet out of season, but friendly and helpful staff. Decent breakfast with some nice smoked salmon and poached egg muffins with Hollandaise.
Was a bit further from Salcombe than I expected.
The location and staff were great ?
The room (corner sea view) was a little run down, especially the bathroom with mould around the bath/shower.
Lovely, friendly staff paricularly the chef. Beautiful views from dining room area. Lovely comfortable beds. Car parking close by. Bottle of milk in fridge and not those awful plastic cartons. That was lovely to see.
The South Sands Hotel and surrounding areas are so beautiful! Some great walks in and around the coast. Everyone has been so friendly and helpful. The restaurant bar areas are so peaceful and relaxing to sit by the fire or out looking over the sea. Our room has everything we need and with beautiful big doors that we were able to have open most of the early evening as the sun set. We will definitely be returning in the near future!
South sands is a beautiful place to stay . FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE FULLY FIT! I booked through the website booking.com I instructed them to ask for a first or ground floor room. My husband also found the surface of the car pack very difficult to negotiate with a suitcase.
Property is very nice although we weren’t shown a client lounge. ???
