About

Located in the picturesque hamlet of Greta Bridge, this traditional and peaceful hotel is in a beautiful location close to the Tees Valley and Yorkshire Dales. The Morritt Hotel is Teesdale’s hidden treasure, just off the A66, some 9 miles west of Scotch Corner. This 17th century former coaching inn offers a warm welcome to everyone, whether for business or pleasure. In the winter you will be greeted by our roaring log fire in the lounge, while in summer you can relax with a drink in our well-tended gardens. No 2 bedrooms are alike, all different in size, shape, style and furnishings. Each room is individually styled, many with original features of this Grade II listed building.

    • Disappointing
    • The property was in an ideal location for us, on family business in the area. It had a level access facility that was kindly made available to us. There was a lovely lounge area where we could meet family and catch up. Disabled parking at the entrance was welcome.Staff were friendly and helpful.
    • Nice place with nice staff...

    Cons -

    • Room was small and very dated, didn’t look like anything of the pictures online.
    • Although kindly accommodated in the room next to my elderly parents, whose room was very well presented, my room had dirt on the floor, leaves in the bathroom and cobwebs as though it had not been used for some time. There was some rubbish on the floor by the table and the bathroom had mould in the shower. The bed was really comfortable though and I slept well. The evening meal in the restaurant was underwhelming although the breakfast the following morning was delicious. The spa on site was a nice option and a resident discount is a nice touch.
    • Breakfast. The service was glacial and although the servers were polite and friendly they were very disorganised and apparently un-trained.Instead of "mushroomS on toast" we got "mushroom on toast". Yes, just one mushroom! It was a fairly big mushroom but not an adequate portion. We also ordered toast and were eventually given a rack of very burnt toast and had to go and scrounge butter and jam from other tables. I can't understand how anyone could put that toast in the rack and put it on a table and think that it was OK. Given the above, it seems that the catering management aren't exercising any leadership and just don't care.I wrote to the hotel management four days ago with some "feedback". They have not had the decency to reply.

Steak at tea time was brilliant , exceeded my expectation after a poor breakfast , the sausages were good quality , most staff were friendly and welcoming .Overall Spa facilities and staff were brilliant , loved the idea of outside hot tub .

The breakfast was overall poor , cold beans , cold toast , tiny potions , bedroom small no wardrobes , beds uncomfortable , the male young man waiter could do with a bit of coaching on customer service could be lack of experience , male toilets were smelly and cleanliness could be better .

Old world charm. Location is good. Comfortable.

Nothing really. It did what I chose it for. Only there a short time as out at a black tie do on the evening, but it felt cosy and comfortable.

The staff here are really friendly and the building itself is really nice. The location is close to the main road on a map but in reality, you can't hear any traffic noise.

The rooms could do with a little bit of work on them as there was flakey paint and visible cracks. The cleanliness leaves a lot of room for improvement. There was a lot of dust and cobwebs in my room and the mirrors looked like they hadn't been cleaned for a while. The mattress on the bed was very soft but the bed frame itself wasn't square and looked like it had been broken previously any 'fixed' in some way. There was also a lot of dust on the bed frame and the plugs for the bedside lights inaccessible unless you possess extendable arms! Overall I feel with a better team of cleaners, this place could be a lot better.

    Bad

The room we was given 1st HADN'T been cleaned room 12, we was the given room 3, a superior double room, it was thick with dust everywhere, ABSOLUTELY NOT ACCEPTABLE, IT WAS SHOCKING

Attractive country house with a cosy bar and open fire

It seems a bit jaded and needs a bit of tlc, and updating to compete with 4 star hotels

Lovely period property with lots of character. Friendly staff.

Room wasn't cleaned very well, particularly the bathroom which had mold on shower screen. Bright spots lights that illuminate the front of the building are on all night and shine into the room. Very close to A66 so lot of road noise.

Beautiful setting and friendly staff. Great bar food

The hotel and our room were very ‘tired’ and I’m need of upgrading .

    Bathroom was a bit tired.

Lovely clean room , really helpful and polite staff , 2nd time of staying here. Would recommend. Room facilities are excellent

The area was lovely and the down stairs was beautiful. The food at the restaurant was also lovely.

The room was freezing, the bathroom was like ice. The warm water from the tap took 5 minutes to start going warm but the sink also kept getting full so had to keep stopping it from running. The bathroom was that cold, I avoided having a shower because it was awful getting out.

Friendly and efficient staff. Good food. Clean and comfy bedroom

The only downside was a miscommunication. I had an email prior to our visit, from you, asking if we would like to book into Gilroy's restaurant for any of the evenings we were there. I replied to the email saying yes we did want to book it. It was to be our special holiday meal, but when we went to walk into the restaurant we were told there was only bar food available. This was very disappointing and should have been reflected in the email.

Great location for Barnard Castle. Friendly staff. Quiet night's sleep.

Some small room issues.... no glass in frame below bathroom mirror designed for glass shelf. Mirror in bathroom not securely fixed to the wall... moves when touched. Greasy yellow leak on shelf behind toilet, coming from cleansing wipes..... it looked a bit like urine, but defo wasn't. I cleaned it. Shower head drips after use, and I had to place it on the floor so it didn't disturb me all night. Breakfast nice, as continental, but I couldn't access the cooked breakfast (which I had paid for really) because it was nit available until 7.30am. I had to leave for my work commitments on both the days I was there unfortunately..... not a massive problem but thought I would mention it for info. All the above are small issues which added up. Sorry.
