    Pros +

    • Lovely. Felt very welcomed

    • Excellent hotel, clean, spacious, staff amazing

    Cons -

    • Bed was very firmLimited pool access for kids during half term
    • Swimming times changed for children to access swimming pool. We were not made aware of these changes which resulted in very disappointed children at the end of our stay as manager would not permit our children to use pool. Sadly this resulted in a bad experience at the end of our holiday. Breakfast was also disappointing compared to previous stays. The hot food had run out at 9:15 and when new food did arrive it was tepid. We also had to wait until we were halfway through our breakfast before our tea and coffee arrived.
    • We had a plumbing issue in our bathroom with a tap that wouldn’t turn off, night manager unable to ‘fix’ it and had the tap running all night. However first thing in the morning after breakfast we were asked to pack up and they’d move us to a similar room.

Absolutely everything about the place, people, food, our room, facilities and location. I cannot emphasise enough how everyone was so welcoming, friendly and helpful. Our short stay was wonderful. Thank you to everyone who made our stay a memorable one. I even got to personally thank the chef before we left this morning so that was a bonus.

Nothing. Cannot understand people having a bitbof a moan about the place tbh

    The location Staff

The room wasn’t clean enough-we found dirty areas and smarties on a chair

    8MurariPosted on: 2-8-2026

The room very very spacious and nicely decorated, the hotel itself was also very pleasant and the location was excellent

The spa is very average, definitely would have been disappointed if it were a spa getaway weekend and it gets quite noisy with paper thin walls

    8JackiePosted on: 2-5-2026

Comfortable rooms, well equipped and good shower/bath room. Restaurant food was good but not exceptional for the money. Bar food good. Swimming pool and spa pool were good but small. Staff were all really attentive and helpful. Paid for spa treatment which was excellent.

Extra charge (Not made clear on booking.com) for use of sauna, steam room and superior showers. Some aspects of the bedroom were a little tired looking, eg, chair upholstery. Restaurant food not as good as we expected given the prices, starters and deserts were good but let down by mains.

    Superb

Bar closing at 2215. Breakfast arrived before we finished our cereal and sat on the table, dirty cereal plates not cleared from table while eating

    9JoyPosted on: 2-2-2026

Dinner in the main restaurant was excellent. Good value and interesting menu. Breakfast was also superb offering a good variety of both hot and cold food.

Rooms were a bit untidy and dated. Could do with a face lift. Also not enough seating in and around the bar area. Especially when you are a party of six.

The location is great, area and views are nice. Staff are welcoming and friendly. Cocktails and food are amazing

The pool is a little dated but clean and tidy. I wouldn’t describe it as extortionate but I have stayed at other hotels of similar quality for cheaper.

The lounge area and fire, very relaxing . The staff were beyond helpful and kind . My husband gets up very early before breakfast start and he was able to come down stairs and have tea and toast before a walk .

The room (52 ) was tired and small . Not having bed side lights meant the top spot light was too bright when you partner is trying to sleep . It was a little inconvenient not having sockets by the bed , looked like blanked off .

    9LyndaPosted on: 1-31-2026

The staff were 5* the decor was 5* and the food was gorgeous and reasonably priced. The room was lovely. Shower nice and hot.

The pool was too cold. The toilet in the ladies chandinf room could do with a re-fresh. Room 53 was very cold we had to ask for the heating to be put on. Shower not very powerful. But these are just me being picky.

Spa was really lovely, facilities good and very clean. Breakfast was delicious, so much choice and good quality food.

Fire alarm went off during the middle of the night due to a fault in the server. No one came to apologise or tell us what was happening and no compensation for being woken up.

    Lovely surroundings. Beautiful hotel.

Didn't realise every time we brought a drink /coffee at the bar we paid a service charge even though we went up to the bar to order and carried the drinks back ourselves to our table. Nothing was itemised!!

    Room was dated furnishings

    9JanePosted on: 1-11-2026

Room was spotlessly clean with great linen and towels. All staff we encountered were friendly and attentive, fantastic customer service all round. Breakfast was great and dinner was exquisite, thoroughly enjoyed it. Location is picturesque and fab for walking.

Considering we stayed in a superior room, the bathroom was not quite up to scratch in our opinion. Too small and the water pressure of the over-bath shower was appalling. Luckily I have short hair and hubbie doesn’t have any, rinsing long thick hair would been a nightmare. Also the car park had not been gritted and we nearly slipped over several times when walking to the car.

The restaurant was nice for a fancy dinner, the food was very good although quite pricy but tasty. The estate is nice if you have a dog as there's plenty of space to run around. The indoor pool was great.

The staff at the reception was not friendly at checkin, that's the first impression of the hotel and it was not nice. When you went to check in at 3pm, they said the rooms are not available still cleaning them and didn't even say when it will be ready, we got it 30 min late. They acted as if this was a normal occurrence for the hotel. The rooms are very worn down, clean but worn down, the bathroom is not nice to look at, moldy sealant all around, the shower was getting cold randomly on and off. The water bottle in the room costs £5 on your tab if you open it! Paying £250 a night and I don't even get free water! The room itself was big but not well equiped, the kettle does not work properly, there's no bedside lights and no outlet! How are you supposed to charge your phone? That's how old the rooms are! Definitely not a 4 star hotel experience The same tables where I was served dinner ALC were also for serving continental breakfast which was a bit disappointing compared to the dinner food quality, very basic food choices using the cheapest ingredients, the jam was basically the jelly kind full of sugar, the "cheese board" was a few slices of goat cheese!, no vegan option for english breakfast, no herbal tea or earl gray tea option, only black tea and black coffee. Not something to get excited about to be honest.I am very disappointed given that I payed £250 for 1 night, that would have gotten me a nice hotel with a private hot tub in lake distric area!

Good selection on the breakfast buffet, both hot and cold. Room was nicely furnished and bed was comfortable. Allowed to use the pool as part of room rate which is a nice touch. Bath towels were nice and large, although robes were not! Plenty of wardrobe/drawer space.

Toilet seat was wobbly as was the sink tap. Hotel is dog friendly and we heard a dog barking during the night. The pool was very crowded - full of kids. Would have been nice to be provided with pool slippers as had to walk through hotel barefooted. No bedside light on one side of bed.

    8JuliePosted on: 12-30-2025

Room was comfortable and use of swimming pool and jacuzzi added enjoyment to the visit.

    7AmyPosted on: 12-28-2025

The facilities and communal areas were fantastic for families and groups. We came for my dads 60th and it was perfect with a lovely garden, walking distance to a lovely stream and lovely communal lounges as well as a great restaurant

The bedrooms were very very hot! Which made it difficult to sleep and the pillows were also very uncomfortable
