Cons -
- Room was not clean on arrival. Restaurant closed 5.45. Hotel run down. Poor parking. Fire door open all night. Didn¿t close properly
- There needs to be better signage where to go when you arrive and they need a liqueur licence
- Extremely hot water and a mixing system inadequate. Toilet seat minus the holder on one side making it unsafe for sitting. The entire building is experiencing serious deferred maintenance. Once was a proud part of Stromness is looking less so. However, your staff was excellent as was the food.

Straight off the ferry right in town. Old school charm.
Stairs! The lift should be a priority repair/upgrade.
Do not stay here, bring...
An empty, dilapidated shell of a hotel. Terrible and dangerous entrance from car park, extension cables running along the corridor, dirty, rattling windows, dusty headboard, hairs on side table,an absolute disgrace of a hotel(?). Didn’t stay the second night, that bad.
Staff were very friendly and attentive
Cleanliness. Room, furniture and carpets could all do with being upgraded

Excellent location, friendly and helpful staff, comfortable and spacious room and excellent breakfast and dinner.
Shower over the bath which had a very narrow and curved base making it feel very unsafe. Shower height was fixed and too high. Needs a grab rail for safety although replacing the bath with a walk-in, level access shower would be a better solution. My friend and I felt too unsafe to have another shower.

Great location and excellent staff.
The hotel needed completely updating. There was no lift(although I understand one is going to be installed over the winter)The window in my bedroom didn’t close.Decor was shabby and the building needed rather a lot of repairs. The food was plentiful and very tasty, but it would have been better to have a smaller menu with daily specials as having the same huge menu every day, makes it rather boring! And one suspects much was frozen or ready meals, although I was assured the chef prepared at least some of the dishes himself! It really would benefit from selling alcohol!
The staff were very helpful and friendly, immediately gave us a more accessible room, carried our cases, and responded immediately to requests. The evening meals were exceptionally good, even the cheaper options were wonderful. And the location is great, with a view over the harbour from the dining room and easy access from the Northlink ferry. The main village street, Hoy ferry and bus station are within a few yards' walk.
The cleanliness was variable - the bedroom was spotless and in good decorative order, but the ensuite bathroom has seen better days and the pipework was dirty. likewise the landings were well maintained but the ground floor and main staircase could have been better maintained. The hotel is built into the rock so only the entrance hall is on the ground floor. We understand that there was a functioning lift until recently but this is now no longer in use.
Location and historyThe breakfastsThe convenience of coming in the back door to our room.
Bathroom facilities
Good location, pleasant and helpful staff
Room layout was not good, didn’t like the fact that the bedside light was in the middle and only one light. Breakfast was quite poor, scrambled eggs were grey and unappealing, the granola was soft
Clean, available, conveniently located, triple room
Shower was scalding and cold, stairs with no elevator
Big room lovely view of port
No lift
Old hotel with nice atmosphere, nice town and close to ferry terminal
Expensive
We liked the central location, the cleanliness of the room and the beds. The staff were friendly and really seemed to be doing their best. It had the (sadly decayed) remnants of past grandeur.
The hotel was hugely understaffed which had negative effects including that the service in the restaurant was almost unbelievably slow, with dirty plates left on the tables all around us as we ate on one occasion, and that there was no housekeeping whatever during our stay. Staff also seemed disorganised and erratic, with no clarity about where we should sit at dinner, for example. There was no lift and the decoration and furnishings, which had once been grand, had been allowed to fall into serious disrepair.
the breakfast was good. the room was clean but on the top floor with no lift and my wife had a bad time getting up the stairs as there was no lift
the fact that they did not say in there advert that there was no bar in the place
The breakfast was grand.
The bed was very uncomfortable. The hotel needs investment and updating.
