Pros +
- Great location. Beautiful room. Excellent breakfast. Quiet. Clean.
- The staff were pleasant and helpful. The location was right on the harbour so there wasn't any convenient parking nearby, be prepared to carry your cases some distance.
- The hotel is perfectly located for the ferry to the mainland. The room was spacious and very nice. The pub in the hotel is also nice; we were allowed to eat our take-aways and were provided with plates and cutlery. Staff is very friendly. But ... (see below).
Cons -
- Very pricey.
- Yes, the rooms were right above a pub with the pub toilets at the bottom of the narrow stairs to our room. The room itself was hardly big enough to swing a suitcase round in.I stayed in five hotels on the NC500 and this was by far the most expensive and the smallest.
- A pub in a hotel simply doesn't work. The noise of loud music and the yelling of customers on their way out at 1:30 am did prevent us from having a good night sleep. This was especially annoying as the ferry for the main land leaves at 6:30 in the morning.

Location was fine, close to ferry. Good breakfast.
No food service in pub.
Nice clean comfortable room. Excellent breakfast. Very central location with plenty of free parking nearby.
The location was great. The room was clean and spacious, completely comfortable. The breakfast was delightful, the bar welcoming, and the staff exceptional.
The bed and the bathroom were clean.
The carpet was not clean and the bathroom was extremely small. The person serving breakfast thinks she’s funny and was making jokes and comments to every guest choice of breakfast. They barely had anything that I could eat (I know it’s not their fault that I have dietary restrictions) but she couldn’t help herself but to comment that my food was “not very palatable” when she brought it to the table. Wasn’t even an option not to pay for breakfast.
The position is good. Near to the Pier from where every ferry departs.
We didnt like the absebce of the front office and the lack of assistance of the costumer. Moreover the price for a small room Is too high.
Comfortable , clean….and great breakfast…
No dinner available !!!Single room , very tiny !!!
Clean rooms, building in good condition, great location for getting to and from Stromness on public transit, and poking around town on foot or with a bike. Tasty breakfast, with limited serving hours (starts at 7:30, last orders by 8:45). Hotel was able to store luggage for us on our departure day which was a big plus. Staff might tell you what they think in a no nonsense kind of way, but they always offered us genuine help when we asked for it. Note that there is currently no restaurant in the evening here. We found it a good idea to make restaurant reservations around town ahead of time: check out Adam's Place and the restaurant at the Ferry Inn.
Beautiful spacious room, with spacious modern bathroom and cosy bed. Lovely breakfasts, excellent cosy private bar. Parking close by/out front if you time it right. Staff - amazing! Chef so lovely and lady on breakfast duty also - helped set up so we could watch the All Blacks v England rugby match early in the morning. Chef also showed some interesting local events being the Orca visiting the harbour. Made us feel very welcome. Breakfasts were great - lots of choice
A good location for travelling around the mainland or getting to the various ferry terminals. The double room was spacious and comfortable with a modern shower that was ideal after a day touring. A good menu at breakfast both hot and cold that set you up perfectly for the day. The ladies serving in the morning were warm and friendly and provided an excellent service.
The restaurant is now closed so you had to either go to the sister hotel/restaurant for a meal but still had to book. Often this was full and it put more restrictions when travelling about for the day and having to look further afield to eat.
Central location in a pictureesque street.Lady who welcomed us very friendly.
The room was very nice and comfortable. Modern bathroom and shower were nice, too. The breakfast and service in the morning were delightful.
We were not informed that our room was directly above the popular bar downstairs. This made it practically impossible to sleep, especially on a Saturday night!
This was a great hotel that provided an excellent starting off point for our all day adventures on Orkney. It is right by the Ferry for easy access. The room was clean, there was an extra alcove for a second bed for our daughter, and the breakfast was great. The room was over a bar which was a little noisy on Saturday night but not excessive and honestly we were so tired it wasn’t a problem.
More surfaces to put things on would have been nice. The window ledge was there but we also kept the window open so it didn’t work great for putting things on.
Lovely lady serving breakfast, location in central Stromness. Free carparking along the harbour 500m away
High price - though same for most Orkney hotels in summer. Narrow street for dropping off cases from car - best to do so at harbour and walk 200m.
Room recently refurbished with modern bathroom. Room cleaned. Excellent breakfast with wide choice. Staff welcoming and friendly. Location perfect. Pity the dining room was closed by the close-by sister Ferry Inn excellent
Great location in the middle of Stromness. Room had a lovely view of the harbour. Breakfast amazing with a massive range of choice. The porridge with rhubarb compote and cream was very good. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Very convenient location, good room, wonderful breakfast ladies, and a great atmosphere.
The last day we were taking the first ferry (6:30). We could not get the shower temperature to warm. ?
The staff were really helpful.
The TV didn’t work. Toiletries had not been replenished in my room on arrival. Late notification about the restaurant being closed.
