- Castle itself Very interesting and authentic .Very tranquil surroundings ,Accomodation very nice ,staff friendly and helpful.
- The staff was friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent! It was an easy drive to many attractions, including Bowes Museum. I would highly recommend going there.
- Staff excellent. Bedroom, lounge, sitting, and other rooms were so well furnished in a period style. We loved it. The dining menu was terrific, set menu of 4-5 options for each course, but plenty to satisfy us. Food was great.
Cons -
- Not great TV signal .
- The weather wasn't always the best.
- Prefer a queen bed rather than double, but maybe that was an option we didn’t chose?

everything. fantastic room. best bed and doona we have had in the last 6 weeks of travelling. and a shower that works well and is easy to operate. staff are fantastic and breakfast is good, but afternoon tea is awesome.? 4 post bed in the Pendragon room was good also. my wife had the best sleep so far on this trip. Jude was extremely helpful.
Lovely quiet location, great facilities, gorgeous building and wicked breakfast too! Staff all super friendly. Will come back for sure!
Unique and fun location especially with kids! Very nice beds and linens. Great breakfasts.
It was advertised as a 5 star hotel but I feel like that was a bit of a stretch. Hotel was a little understaffed. Breakfasts were great, dinner was good, but the tea was just ok (felt it was a overpriced for what we got).
Lovely restored period rooms with furnishings appropriate for the castle. Great food and staff.
It isn’t a castle no walls, keep, nor towers. It is a very interesting two plus century manor house with lovely grounds.
The castle is tucked away in wooded area down a long country track. It is very pretty setting like a fairy tale castle.Staff we’re relaxed and welcoming polite with no airs and graces.Room was huge and comfy four poster.Open fires in main reception areas have a homley feel.We we’re able to roam freely around the castle and grounds as it is very much a family home environment .Breakfast was excellent good quality and plenty of choice. Both hot and cold options available .Very unique and slightly quirky experience
Could have been more choice for evening meals. But all that was on offer was excellent .
Quirky, lots to explore, lovely comfortable bed, tasty breakfast, friendly staff
Sadly we chose a night where they were not serving full dinner but they were doing lighter snacks so you didn’t have to go hungry
lovely location. maintains original charm with everything you might need. lovely spacious and well presented room. staff were very personable and helpful. all round very good experience
The castle felt like a second home, not at all fussy and there were special touches for the kids, who loved every minute.
The staff could have helped with more recommendations about what to do in the area.
some great wines on offer, easy parking, huge room
Lovely location, comfortable quiet room, nice breakfast, friendly & helpful staff.
Although the evening meal was very nice, the portion sizes were quite small for the price.
Charming castle stay with buckets of character. Kids thought it was very magical. Well catered for, friendly staff. Self contained apartment “little castle” was very well appointed.
Shower head needs replacing.
Good location, friendly staff, nice quiet hotel during during our stay. The meals provided were of a good standard. The bed was very comfortable.
Back ground music during the meals would be nice.
Everything. I've never been anywhere else like it!! We loved it. Quirky features, amazing room, spacious beds, comfy beds, the facilitites even down to the little bottles of milk. The grounds are fabulous, the sheep are friendly and even stroked one. Just perfect. So quiet and romantic. The food was superb! Staff and the house keeper (originally from leeds) could not do enough!!!!! Thank you, we will be back
Nothing! It was absolutely perfect
The beautiful castle and its history, beautiful decor, original features, fabulous . The breakfast staff namely Julie and Jen, they made us feel so welcome and we had a great chat to them, they are a credit to the castle! Lovely breakfast
At first our bedroom was freezing, but a gentleman turned the heating up so was ok, Dinner at night was a set menu, nothing else, I’m sorry to say, it wasn’t up to my standards and was overly priced
The property was so unusual and comfortable but had kept original features
Perfect
The castle was a unique place to stay. Quirky and interesting. Restored the soul and instilled a feeling of calm - we felt at home and were so sad to leave. It is beautiful and peaceful. A place to explore and feel relaxed.
Very quirky building beautifully decorated and set out
