    Pros +

    • Location and helpful staff. The food was good too.
    • Staff were brilliant the food was really excellent, comfy bed, very hot bath.
    • Great location, very clean and has everything you need. Lovely restaurant with excellent food and the service was as good as if not better than some 5*. Extremely helpful and friendly staff. Highly recommend

    Cons -

    • Price was steep for the star rating.
    • There wasn't anything we didn't like ,however, we couldn't turn the light off in the so had to take the light blub out and the fire exit light was very bright and annoying . On returning back to the hotel we couldn't get ourselves back in , you have to go through the door at the side of the building which it does say in small print on a notice and am sure the young man did say ,but at the time I thought he was just pointing the fire exit to us , other than that we had a lovely stay

Great hotel. The gentleman staffing it was terrific. The facility was cozy & welcoming & fellow travellers were delightful. The town was less busy than others a few miles away & that was welcome relief.

We had a lovely time. Fiona and all the staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. We could open the windows in our room !!!! ( Not always possible in hotel accommodation!) So the room was comfortable and a pleasant temperature and we slept very well. We had breakfast, a lunch and a dinner during our stay - all the food was delicious. This hotel is not ostentatious but it has quality ! Middleham is a lovely place - full of historic buildings including the castle of course. It is bustling and bristling with racing activity. It's lovely to see all the horses go out in the mornings. Every driveway and jitty leads to a stable yard ! If I stayed again I think I would book to visit a yard as I don't know much about racing and would like to find out more about the industry. There are lovely walks to be had through the dales countryside from Middleham

    Everything was lovely.

Good location for the activates we wanted to do. A couple of options to eat and drink in the square. Nice room. Nice view of the castle. Very nice attached restaurant. Friendly locals.

A couple of things just didn’t suit us, which I wish the original listing had been more honest about, as they could have prevented the negative part of the review. The castle view, which you pay extra for, also faces the lively nightlife playing thumping music. This will suit people looking for something a bit more vibrant, but we were hoping for something quiet and relaxing. Sadly, opting for the premium room without this information tarnished our stay a little. You also wouldn’t be able to tell from the looking at google, but the road that the castle view room faces is quite a busy thoroughfare for racehorses, farm traffic, and motorbikes. Again, this wouldn’t be an issue for people who are already up and about by 06:30, but we like a lie-in.Our room was also above the outdoor seating area, so we had the added noise of other guests chatting outside in the morning while we were still in bed. Finally, I was mortified when a staff member entered the room without knocking, catching an eyeful of me getting undressed and my partner already undressed in bed. There was no lock, latch, or "do not disturb" card to use while in the room, so knocking before entering should absolutely be standard practice for staff.

We arrived early and were welcomed. The weather was awful - Middleham had had a good downfall of snow overnight, albeit a little early. We enjoyed a drink in the bar area whilst our room was ready. Our room was spotlessly clean, with an excellent view of Middleham Castle. We enjoyed a pre-dinner drink in the bar where we met Fiona - the proprietor. What a lovely lady. Our meal was excellent - could not be faulted. After a restful night's sleep, we were delighted to see that the snow has disappeared. Breakfast was absolutely scrumptious. It certainly set us up for the rest of today - Sunday 24th. Very nice to see the race horses being exercised. Fiona explained that Middleham is the Newmarket of the North - many riding stables in the area.Another visit is a MUST. Next time we will take our dog with us to meet Fiona!!

The bed mattress was somewhat hard for us - personal preference and no reflection on The Wensleydale Hotel.
