    • Great location
    • Great location and a great pub with nice staff. Shame that the chef was off because the breakfast was just a continental and wasn't the best at all. I will go back but make sure there is gonna be a cooked breakfast first.

    Cons -

    • The Hotel and pub feels like it has been run down and needs some love and attention. One off the beds had not been changed and was dirty. Breakfast was poor as well. Shame as it used to be a Great pub and hotel. Also the room gad damp issues
    • Breakfast.
    • Paid for breakfast and chef didn't turn up. No glasses for orange juice although it was a pub. Told to tip cutlery out of a dirty jam jar. Luke warm water in a flask for coffee. If I could give it no stars I would

    The location.

When we arrived it wasn't open and there was glass around the front of the building. At 10:30pm the bar was closed so we had to go elsewhere to have a drink. The shower in one of the rooms was broken. There was no hot breakfast option and the crumpets in the bread basket were out of date. There was only one member of staff working who didn't appear to want to be there. We were informed by staff in another bar that the hotel was closing.

Location was good. Breakfast was included but it turned out to be a continental not a cooked breakfast as I expected. That was offered only on a weekend when the chef was there. The continental lacked numerous items you would expect eg .yogurt.

My room had no where to hang anything only bedside drawers and only a little stand for the kettle. The rest of the coffees ,teas etc were on the windowsill. The ensuite was small ( no real problem) but there was no shelf or hooks to put toiletries and towels on. The shower head needed replacing and the black mould?in the shower tray needed removing. I ordered an evening meal of steak and ale pie and chips. The chips were lovely but the slice of pie was overheated. The pastry was hard and the meat on the edges very dry. It would have been very nice as the meat inside was plentiful and tasty. I decided not to eat there again in the evening although it was an inconvenience to me.

Staff were very welcoming, and we had a lovely dinner, my husband especially liked the steak and ale pie

We received a very warm welcome and the location was perfect.

We were told breakfast would be at 8.30am, we waited until 8.45am and nobody came, we helped ourselves to fruit but sadly didn't get the breakfast we had hoped and paid for.

Superb spacious room above a cosy pub in a beautiful little market town.Great staff, good food and beer. We'll be back.

Staff were really friendly when I arrived late, and helped me find somewhere to eat! Plus were accommodating when I had to leave before breakfast leaving some food out for me.

    Very poor

Dirty and dated when we got up in the morning for breakfast noone about no lights on left to own devices didn't have breakfast as gad been left out from evening before

Lovely, big comfortable room- room 4. Much bigger than expected and quiet too, with a great outlook onto the market square. Friendly, helpful staff

Only niggle was that we were down for breakfast at 8.30 and there was nobody there! We went back upstairs and packed first, and by the time we came back downstairs the staff had appeared! Our bacon and egg roll was delicious!!

Conveniently placed in the centre of Leyburn. Great value and friendly staff. The bedroom was spotlessly clean and comfortable.

There wasn’t anything that concerned me.

    8AndrewPosted on: 11-12-2025

Lovely town centre location, parking for my motorbike was easy right outside. Central heating was excellent and a brilliantly powerful shower.

Room was a little tired, and the mattress really soft though some people wouldn’t like a harder one. No cooked breakfast option.

    1AlliPosted on: 11-10-2025

We walked in and walked out and didn't stay. There was nothing we liked other than the location!

The room was small, dated and grim. There was a kitchen fan outside the window which sounded like a pneumatic drill. We tried closing the window but that didn't help and the window didn't have a catch on it anyway. The first lady we spoke to said she could offer us another room but was then overridden by an older lady who said we couldn't have one so we left.

    8SusanPosted on: 10-31-2025

Very nice room, comfortable, clean, well decorated and furnished. Location in the centre of town was excellent and parking very convenient. The pub downstairs was good and nice hot food. Staff super friendly.

Bathroom floor although clean was stained. Walls are thin and i was disturbed by neighbouring room. Stairs are steep and narrow and a bit shabby. no cooked breakfast. Black out curtains would be good.

The bedroom and en-suite were spacious, clean and well equipped. The housekeeper did an amazing job. Great shower

This is not a hotel. The sign outside below The Black Swan Hotel says "Pub & Rooms" which is right, The place is currently looking for a new tenant and the staff were really not interested, maybe temporary? The breakfasts were awful, the worst we have ever had.

    8AndrewPosted on: 10-29-2025

The room was very comfortable and nicely decorated and furnished. It was actually better than I expected having seen the rest of the pub. The breakfast was a simple help yourself buffet with coffee, cereals toast etc, which suited me just fine and was good value given the price I paid for the room.

The landing and corridor to the rooms were quite dark and gloomy. I was not given a front door key when I checked-in, which created a problem when I returned not long after 10:00pm to find the premises were already closed and locked up. Fortunately, I managed to raise a member of staff to let me in.

Stayed in higher rated place & it was inferior to this accommodation. Nice large room lots of tea & coffee, large comfy bed, very sociable hosts. Cosy bar downstairs for night cap. Will return if available highly recommend 5*.
