Pros +
- It's a nice overall experience with the pub, parking, and service.
- Interesting, historical building. Friendly and helpful staff. Location in the centre of the town. Excellent breakfast, both the contintental and the cooked options. Effort had been made to provide us with a lower floor room and a walk in shower.
- Spacious guest room in an old world , charming country hotel at Christmas. The inn was festive and lively for the holiday and we were invited to join in the hotel’s celebration. However, we stayed there to visit relatives in a nearby village so couldn’t accept. For this same reason we didn’t use the hotel’s swimming pool or sports facilities as we were out and about. The room had coffee and tea making in the room and everything ( shower, central heating, hot water, light fixtures etc.) worked. Because we ate with relatives we didn’t enjoy the breakfast and dinner in the hotel restaurant but it was offered with full service breakfast costing £15 per person. Complimentary parking behind the hotel worked out great for us. We walked around the town of Chipping Norton as weather was dry and sunny. Room service was provided both days we stayed even though it was in the holidays. We had planned to bring our small dog to the Crown and Cushion but before arriving made alternative arrangements for our dog.
Cons -
- Bedding is old and worn.
- Our room was in need of updating but it was clean. The room was at the very back of the hotel site and detached from the main building.
- The TV in the room didn’t have great reception. We watched TV anyway. There was some noise from the adjoining hotel rooms. The hotel doesn’t have an elevator so unsuitable for disabled people. Lots of steps and long corridors to navigate.

Awful
My employee was bitten from something repeatedly while staying there and has had medical treatment for multiple bites over his head, neck hands and torso.
The location and ambience was great, parking was also available at the back.
I booked a family room but was given a double, hotel staff addressed it promptly, seems to be an issue with booking .Com and not the hotel
It was friendly and in a good location.
It was tatty in places, and the steps were tough up to the 3rd floor.
We loved staying in this historic former coaching inn. Our room (4-poster) was spacious and comfortable. Quiet at night in spite of the location on High Street. Central to everything with bus stops only minutes away. Great hot shower. Spotlessly clean. Bonus is the great pub with huge fireplace right inside the hotel. Rooms are not “luxurious” but super comfortable and convenient. Anyone with mobility issues should know that the rooms are all upstairs, some of them several flights. Chipping Norton made a perfect home base for visiting the Cotswolds.
Breakfast and hotel room.
Few options to have dinner
Great location, friendly staff. Room simple but perfect for what we needed for a little get away. Clean and quiet
Strong smell of cigarette smoke throughout corridors (not in our room though)
A hotel with great charm, very clean, quiet and comfortable room of a good size. Bathroom was equally clean with instant hot water. Linda and her staff were all very friendly and accommodating. The food in the bar restaurant was of good quality and very reasonably priced. I would definitely make the Crown & Cushion my first choice when next in the area.
The staff were friendly, the bar is great, beautiful room and good location.
The hotel is full of characters and charm. Room is clean and comfortable and very large.
Noise from hotel restaurant guests
Nothing except it was in Chipping Norton which isn’t much of a town and there were other properties in the same location that were wasaaaaay better
We arrived and the woman at the desk was having a personal conversation on the phone and ignored us. Check in was at 2 pm if you time asked nicely. The room looked like an old run down motel. The floor was carpeted and stained. The bed was small and the layout was horrible Add to that the crazy price of approx 150 dollars a night it was a rip off. I went down to the breakfast which was pretty much all packaged food and was told it ended already. It was 9:45 and everything was still out. The sitting area was a small room was a beat up couch an and dirty poorly hung curtain . The pub was okay
clean, decent size room, good shower.
old/stale smell …uncomfortable bed …bad pillows …and VERY loud banging doors late/early …plus thin walls. Did not sleep well.
Don’t listen to all the bad reviews, I was on the verge of changing this hotel. It’s was great, yes a little dated but that doesn’t effect it’s use. Our room was modern, clean, very comfy bed, everything we needed for our stay. Lovely area outside at the back, clean tidy and well kept. Helpful staff, great location, sun on the front of the hotel with a few seats to have a drink and look out onto the main high street.
Bathroom sink needed a good clean! Nothing some bleach wouldn’t fix. Plug hole dirty as was the overflow with green scum. Shame as this was the only thing negative, not one to moan but did need some bleach in the sink.
Location is at the center of town, near groceries, shops, cafes, and bus stops. Linda is very kind and helpful, and the rest of the staff are very accommodating.
Attractive, cosy, “Old England” and the real thing! Staff are very helpful and welcoming
We had a room over the courtyard, which was great though a little noisy until the pub room closed below at 10 pm. Not a big deal.
nice plantings in courtyard
outdoor sitting spaces were occupied by people enjoying their beers and talking loud loudly which intruded upon the quiet in our room
The property has d located in the middle of the village. It’s tastefully decorated with a lovely garden. The staff were very friendly and the owner makes everyone welcome.
The room was scorching hot and very noisy as it faced the high street. The internet was not working properly.
All in all an honest, old-fashioned hotel above a pub. Surprisingly large (more than it appears on the outside). It did the job and was good value. To be honest, I would be fine staying there again.Easy to get to, on the main square in Chipping Norton. Nothing special but not a bad place to stay.
It's all a bit "tired", generally speaking. Nothing specifically wrong, and clean enough, just don't expect anything special. It could certainly do with a general redecoration and revamp.Onto specifics, I also wasn't keen on: a) our room's window was small and had a view onto a wall, and b) breakfast was nothing special. Yes, plenty of choice of cereal but the cooked breakfast looked and tasted uninspiring and a bit sad, and the croissants were pre-packaged and worse than you can find in a supermarket.
