About
An enchanting Cotswold retreat in the picturesque town of Burford, few could resist the rustic charm of this 16th century residence, whether it is for a leisure break, business trip or special occasion. Bay Tree won Small Hotel of the Year at the National Enjoy England Excellence Awards 2011. The hotel also has a Gold Award for Excellence from Enjoy England. The Bay Tree is steeped in history and awash with character, from the foundations of its mellow stone walls - clad with pinkish-purple wisteria blooms - to its wooden beam rafters. Oak-paneled public rooms, bare stone walls and original stone fireplaces, including an inglenook fireplace, provide a textured canvas upon which rich fabrics, woven tapestries and antiques have been laid down with exquisite flair. For your relaxation, you can select a good book from the hotel library, sink back into a comfortable chair and allow the stresses of everyday life to gradually seep away. In the summer months, the tranquility of the walled gardens make for a relaxing haven where you can enjoy a refreshing drink on a warm evening.

- The room in The Cottage was roomy, comfortable and cozy. The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially Enya at the front desk. Food was very good; the breakfast each morning was excellent.
Cons -
- We should have stayed more than one night. Not your fault :)
- If I had to criticize it would only be that not a lot of power or room in the shower but it wasn't a problem
- nothing!

nothing!
The staff were excellent, really friendly and professional. The bed was really comfortable Breakfast was delicious
The location in Burford was ideal being very central and with parking. The staff were all so helpful and friendly. We loved all the small rooms in the bar area with open fires some of which were on.
We had a coffee each in the garden which cost more than a beer costs generally, which was disappointing
Good location . Good breakfast
Room was cold at times as radiator not working properly. Toilet didn’t flush properly. Light in bathroom not sufficient . Couldnt see myself to put makeup on or to shave. No mixer tap . Bathroom fan not working. Room generally needs updating .
A very charming hotel set in a couple of connected historical buildings, carefully decorated and with a very personal and genuine feel. Good breakfast and lovely staff - highly recommended!
Everything . The staff were outstanding, I was 75 mins late for lunch booking, they made no fuss about this. Every one was so helpful & professional.
i was v kindly upgraded to one of their best suites, a v faint smell of drains near the bathroom. i do have v keen sense of smell so others may not notice this.
Breakfast was good, though the croissants had run out. Room v cosy and comfy. Roomy and big bathroom. Lovely dining room.
Reception rooms were quite chilly!!
Rooms (upgraded to Sycamore) steep flights of stairs to accommodation, but not a problem for us and we was shown this before we accepted a free upgraded room (so many thanks BayTree), room was very spacious, bathroom too and all very clean.. careful if your tall and clumsy like me (beams low), located in Burnham and 200m from the high street with all shops (great butchers), food, staff could not fault would defo stay again 100% recommend
If I'm gonna be picky as all was soo great, I'm just not keen on Smoked Bacon with my breakfast
The breakfasts were excellent. The Fruit and cereal offering is amongst the best that we have encountered anywhere in the world. The garden was an excellent space - very well cared for.
The selection of bread offerings at breakfast was OK, but could have been improved. The Croissants & other pastries were very good. A warning should be provided not to park under the tree next to the garages in the first car-park in order to avoid bird droppings on your vehicle. Almost unbelievably it required a good 15minutes work to make the car safely drivable & a trip to the car-wash.
The staff and accommodation excellent. The restaurant food was poor. The menu looked good but food disappointing.
Accommodation
Staff unorganised at breakfast. Both days had to repeatedly ask for things which were either not provided or not given. I don’t think cereal should be placed on the table uncovered the previous night.
Breakfast service. One female foreign member of staff even said ‘what’ to me.
Beautiful hotel, lovely lounges and dining areas and our upgrade to the deluxe suite was amazing. One of the nicest rooms I’ve stayed in to date.
Slightly cold in communal areas and our first room was near the bar and so a little noisy at night. But we were upgraded the second night because of this by very helpful staff.
The breakfast was terrible. Service dreadful. Wrong order
Penny pinched with quality of food….
Wonderful old world charm with modern facilities. Excellent parking. Welcoming staff. Everyone helpful and attentive. Very comfortable bedroom equipped with everything I needed. Quiet location.I particularly loved the fact that there were very comfortable chairs in smaller, warm rooms as well as a spacious dining room and conservatory.
Absolutely nothing!
Exterior of the building was beautiful. The interior of the pub was lovely, lovely and cosy with the fires burning. The staff were very kind and helpful too. The bathroom was lovely and clean and had lovely toiletries.
The bed was VERY uncomfortable, neither of us slept well at all. The interior of the room was slightly outdated too. We felt slightly disheartened about the restaurant too. The food was lovely however it definitely didn’t live up to the expectations set by the website. If it was advertised as good pub food then excellent, however it wasn’t. It was marketed more of a fine dining experience which it certainly wasn’t and therefore to be charged those prices it was a shame.
The bar is cosy and comfortable especially with the log fires. The restaurant is stylish and the food was excellent. All of the staff were friendly and welcoming.
There was a problem with the room we booked. Max was very helpful and sorted it out quickly. Although the hotel is old and charming it is in need of some TLC
Location. Age/history. Pleasant enough decor. Reception/welcome. Mum
Our bedroom was affected by noisy kitchen fans - yes they eventually went off at night but started again at 6am. Bar closed at 10.30 - no option for residence wanting drinks - nowhere to sit & chat once bar shut. Reception staff helpful & cheerful - very courteous . Breakfast staff not good. Not very cheerful … no “good morning”. No common sense about clearing tables; delivering plates & not removing used bowls, 3 of us had tea, drank it & requested refills …at one point we had 6 teapots on the table because the 3 empties were not removed no “offer” of extra drinks (we had to ask), order slow to come - breakfast presentation looked good but food was cold (not warm - cold). Sausages were poor quality & over cooked (hard). Food appeared to have been precooked & kept warm - although it wasn’t warm by the time we got it.
The property was in an excellent location, easy walking distance to the high street and all amenities. The breakfast was v good although to ask for toast both mornings and the tea could have been hotter. Room was lovely, and cosy with good amenities
Too much light in the bedroom could have done with some curtains. Make sure you close the blinds when sitting on the toilet!! Carpet could have done with a spot clean
