About
You can be assured of a warm welcome, impeccable service and the highest degree of comfort at this inn, conveniently situated on the outskirts of Newcastle-under-Lyme. The Borough Arms Hotel and Restaurant is one of the oldest established hotels in the Newcastle-Under-Lyme and Stoke-On-Trent areas, with history dating back to 1783. The hotel is a traditional English coaching inn, yet has been carefully and subtly refined to offer the comforts and modern standards required by today's visitors. Independently owned and managed, the hotel retains many original features and takes great pride in offering a very personal service. As a valued guest, you may be confident that your comfort is ensured, whether you are staying in one of the 40 centrally heated rooms with private bathrooms, visiting for a meal in the restaurant, or using the conference and banqueting facilities. A very clean and comfortable hotel in a great location and great value for money.
Some of the rooms do need an update
Local to the town friendly people
basic but clean and good value
The staff was very nice. Good location.
The staff weren’t overly helpful. Asked how to get to Titanic Brewing and didn’t get any helpful response. The room smelled musty, looked dirty, and old. There was some sort of event going on at the hotel and there was loud, thumping music until at least midnight. I understand the hotel has these type of events, but they shouldn’t interfere with other paying guests getting to sleep.
Rooms which we have received are on the road side so continuous cars noise and side rooms water noise. Can't sleep
A good room and breakfast, with plenty of parking, which was what as a solo traveller was what I wanted.
Nothing in particular. It was a nice unpretentious hotel.
Apart from the older lady in the breakfast area, everyone else in the hotel were polite,at all times ,helpful, and absolutely fantastic, however because I would not return,to be given my breakfast with the lady,in my opinion she is not doing you justice
Breakfast omelet was burnt black, service from older woman with a limp, was horrendous, not polite, dirty white glove, thumb in the food, cutlery just in a pile,on the table, dry pastries,Not good, that's why we didn't eat there, for evening,
The only thing we liked was the location
The beds were to soft. No information about what time the bar opened or what time meals are served. Ww were kept awake sll night by someone coughing in the next room. We had a meal in the bar. My burger was still red raw in the middle. We only stayed 2 nights out of the 4 we booked
The staff were very friendly
The hotel looked very tired. Parts of the room were dirty and dangerous radiator bracket in bathroom
Good location, easy free parking, nice room and large bathroom. Friendly staff and great value
The rooms need a full length mirror
Helpful staff
Dirty carpet, cold room, damp towels as bathroom radiator did not work.
QuaintHas characterVery cleanCentralFriendly staff
Need better pillows
The staff were nice
The pictures arnt accurate found it dated and not what I expected, no heating control in the room and it was boiling. Room and bathroom could have done with a clean.
Nothing! Don't waste your money. Spend a little more & stay at a Premier Inn
Reception staff pleasant & courteous. Both our single rooms were on the front & due to continous traffic noise, could not open the window for fresh air, so very stuffy during the night. I felt we were put there as we were two gents only staying for one night. Very small rooms, very basic & very tired. Kettle had to be boiled on the floor as flex too short to be placed on the table top. Bathroom in a very poor state of service. Mould in the shower & around the base. Basin had small crack which had collected dirt. No heat from the towel rail & no way of switching it on. No plastic beaker or glass for water at night. Very worn carpet. Pillows very thin with no support. Bed very lumpy but at least it had a clean sheet! Went out for dinner but returned for a decent coffee in the bar. My friends cappuccino was okay, my flat white was cold, had to request a hot drink. What arrived was just an instant coffee with milk that had been microwaved. Very poor quality.
Very friendly staff and clean. Nice burger at the bar
Hotel a bit dated but overall good value for money
Location and staff
Booking.com had the wrong address on their sight which cost us an hour trying to locate the place. Totally wrong and they should correct this promptly
I will start off with saying the staff all seemed very polite, so I hope my review doesn't reflect negatively upon them, the parking was free which is a bonus and the room was rather spacious and clean. The check out time was good aswell as it means you can have a bit more of a lie in as check out wasn't till 11am. I'm not one to give low ratings, all my others have been between 8-10's however I do not feel like the photos represented the actual place, its very old looking and could do with a spruce up. I understand I chose the standard room as it was only for 1 night so didn't want to spend to much but for £60 I still expected abit better as the room was very basic and dull looks wise and no extras other than tea and coffee, there was no soap in the bathrooms not even to wash our hands and it is right next to a busy road so was a little noisy when trying to sleep. All in all I don't think I would stay again as I do believe there are better options for the price, although it was a spacious room it could really do with an upgrade expecially decor wise.
Very dated decor, throughout hotel & room. The pull cord for main light in the room was brown from use (originally white), bathroom was functional but unpleasant.Breakfast was rough, over cooked bacon, cheap sausage, tinned mushrooms, half over the plate was covered in baked beans.
USB in the room would be a bonus. Food was great for breakfast. They do not dinner available on Sundays.
