    Absolutely nothing.

Our room was freezing cold, dump, filthy and without internet connection. The mattress was old, dump and collapsing. Bedding dirty. No wi-fi available. Very dangerous step to access the room. We reported the issues to the manager who, very impolitely, refused to give us an alternative room, as the hotel was fully booked which was untrue. After our insistence he accepted to give us another room requesting more money. The manager and the young lady were very rude. At that point we left the hotel and found another accommodation. Our refund request has been ghosted by the manager and the owner.

Staff were brilliant. Really friendly and attentive. Breakfast was great as was meal at night (eventually).

Room is very dated. Bathroom floor was full of black mould. The room was FREEZING and so it was really hard to sleep. The sofa had rips and tears in it. Food at night had to be sent back as was under cooked. This was rectified though.

Fantastic location, great breakfast, lots of character. The children slept well in their separate 'bed space'. We would stay here again.

The furniture was a bit tired in the room, but beds were comfortable, and the room was nice and clean

    Location was excellent.

Room was very draughty and very cold initially. This improved with the loan of a blow heater. Milk for the room was provided in a glass jar which broke in my hand leading to multiple minor lacerations. First aid kit was out of date, dirty, and not fully equipped.

Loved how near to everything, pubs, restaurants shops, basically just step outside. Brekfast was beautiful, excellent quality ingredients.

Radiators on full but not heating up, needed to be bled I think, air in system made bathroom and bedroom cold. Only stayed one night so didn't complain, but needed sorting. Window needs updating also old sash window very draughty. Mary Hepworth room.room does need brightening up with decor with some colour, very plain and beige.

The location is perfect. We occupied the attic room for our one night stay and the room was lovely and cosy. However, not ideal for a tall person!

    5RogerPosted on: 2-16-2026

Dinner in the restaurant was delicious. Both meals very enjoyable.

Breakfast. Limited choice. No juice or cereal options. Food only just warm, even though it was ordered individually. Coffee also only luke warm.

    5ChristinePosted on: 2-15-2026

Quirky building. Nice atmosphere. Nice friendly staff.

No hot water on the first night but in the morning it was hot somehow.Freezing cold. Radiator wouldn't heat up.

Staff were excellent, helpful and courteousBreakfast was as good as we have had anywhere.

Dickens decor could have been a little better

    1RogerPosted on: 2-12-2026

The room was very dirty bed full of hairs and a brown stain, full of gob webs filthy skirting boards coffee stains up the walls. Gob webs in pub dining and halls. Staff was ok bed did get changed but not bottom sheet. I know it’s an old building but that’s not an excuse for filth and a bed full of what I think was dog hair. I wouldn’t have stopped but when we got back we couldn’t book anywhere else for the night.

Dirty, cob webs, a bed full of hair and brown stain on sheet , pooStain under toilet seat dirty skirtings and coffee stains up the walls halls are also full of cop webs staff must walk about in blinkers

The speaker in the Otster bar must be located just under the room we stayed in. It was anniy7ng and at 11pm I had to go and ask dor itvti be switched off. This was despite the room being empty of customers. The bewakfast was fabulous though and the bed and room comfortable.

Just the music noise meant I couldn't sleep when I wanted to.

    10JuliePosted on: 2-2-2026

The good was fabulous, location is perfect and the staff were very accomodating. The hotel is full of character, the room was on the small side but this wasn’t an issue as we had everything we needed.

    7HeatherPosted on: 2-2-2026

    Location. History of hotel.

No milk or hairdryer in room! Breakfast very average. A better quality breakfast (better bread, sausages etc) would fit in more with the hotel. We didn't mind so much, but it's very noisy in the morning with seagulls, bottle collecting and the floor boards above the room we were in. If you want quiet nights sleep, probably not for you

    7AngelaPosted on: 2-2-2026

Excellent location, car park within walking distance. Lovely food

Room could’ve done with a little freshen up, but it was a comfortable stay and great value for money

    7TessaPosted on: 2-1-2026

Lots of character, comfy bed, great location, nice food

Staff were a little frosty, especially at breakfast. Quite noisy during the night, could hear everything in the rooms around us and the heating system was also noisy. Shower either burning hot or freezing cold.

    7StevePosted on: 1-29-2026

Friendly staff, great location. Dog friendly. Large family room

    Room a little shabby

    8DebbiePosted on: 1-28-2026

Love the location, history and old world atmosphere of the hotel

No close parking, but more of an annoyance than a big issue
