About
Overlooking Whitby Harbor, Royal Whitby is located opposite the famous Whalebone Arch in the West Cliff area of Whitby. With breath-taking views of the ruined Gothic Whitby Abbey, the property offers a bar, free wi-fi and a restaurant. The rooms include a flat screen TV, an en suite with a bath and/or a shower, complimentary toiletries, tea and coffee making facilities and a wardrobe. Guests at the popular Royal Whitby can enjoy drinks and meals in the bar and restaurant, which both overlook the ocean and the ballroom is host to a great variety of local entertainment too. Royal Whitby is just 10 minutes’ walk from local shops and Whitby Railway Station. Whitby is a seaside town that features historic cobbled streets, picturesque houses, and a sandy Blue Flag beach. The hotel is dog friendly. Please note that there is a charge of £20 per dog, per day. Car parking is available at a charge of £8 per night however spaces are limited and reservations in advance are recommended. Please call the 01947 602234 (option 2) to book a space. As part of our ongoing refurbishment program, scaffolding is currently in place on one side of the building. This may partially obstruct the view from some bedroom windows, and while we are working to keep any disruption to a minimum, we want to make you aware of this in advance of your stay.

- Hotel rooms were cold even with free standing heaters supplied. However weather was cold and property is huge which could explain this. Still had a very enjoyable stay and would recommend

Location and able to take dog
Dark corridors and temporary paint smell plus can’t turn radiators down
Windows in bed ro filthy , cobwebs in room and carpets need cleaning, no lamp on table
Having to use a side plate for breakfast, was told it is to prevent waste , struggle to get breakfast items on 1 plate,
Beautiful old hotel, fantastic location.Friendly, helpful staff. It's going to look great when the referb is complete
It's under refurbishment at the moment and will look fantastic when its done but was surprised to find our bathroom wasnt finished painted. There was a stain on the carpet and walls were a bit thin, could hear next door!
Roll was new, fresh and modern but stylish. Fantastic WiFi Best burger I’ve eaten in a long while in the restaurant
Parking was a bit confusing
Staff on arrival were friendly and helpful. All staff on the evening for the meal and at bar again really professional and friendly, and always supportive. Downstairs in reception, look beautiful and well designed. Some work has been put into this, and really nice.
Room - Disappointed with the room, beds not comfortable, sorry I think the mattress needs to be thrown out. Worse sleep ever with back ache the next day. Bathroom - the blind in the bathroom was so old, that it had mold on, and the chain on the blind was yellow and stuck to the blind. Yellow staining on the tiles around the bath/shower. The window wouldn't close properly so was a constant rattle all during the night.
Hotel nice and clean nice staff
No car parking only limited amount of spaces
Great location. Breakfast was really good. Staff pleasant and helpful. Being able to reserve a place in the car park is a massive plus and at £6 for 24 hours is very reasonable. Room was spacious, clean and bed was comfortable enough.
Windows in the room didn't close properly and during the early hours the wind had picked up blowing curtains about and was howling through the gaps. Managed to slam them shut but took some force. Sliding doors on the cupboard was off the runner and the wife coulndt open it but I managed to fix it myself and there was massive damp patches all inside the cupboard it's self as it was a built in unit. We had one of the older rooms.
The bar and restaurant attached so you could unwind before bed. When the heating was too hot in room and it couldn’t be fixed we were moved straightaway without asking
N/a everything was great
Good location , nice bar area
We found a loaf of bread in the draws that was 11 days out of date
The Royal Hotel is currently undergoing renovations. The new reception and bar area looks great and adds something to the West Cliff area of Whitby. Not all the rooms have been updated yet. My single room was comfortable but a bit old-fashioned. The harbour view was amazing, looking right across to the Abbey and 199 steps. The room had tea and coffee facilities, a TV, and a wardrobe. I would definitely stay here again and look forward to seeing the hotel improved and updated over the next few years.
I stayed here in February and found my room a bit cold, but they did provide a portable radiator. My room was one of the older ones, so I don’t think this would be a problem everywhere in the hotel.
Very cleanEveryone was helpful
Not much reallyIf I had to complain I would say I couldn’t see the door lock on the evening when returning to my room due to the low light and decor but this was in no way a complaint
The hotel has been refurbished and it's a beautiful hotel now, had a meal in the Fat Badger which was gorgeous, the pub is fabulous now as well.
Only had a pillow each and they weren't very firm.
Staff excellent.clean room .restaurant supplied great service and food.
Some of the decor was a bit out dated
The bad and restaurant
We booked a sea view room but the room we were place in was covered by scaffolding. The second thing was there was a awful sewage smell when using the shower in a morning
The cleanliness and location of the hotel
No place to hang our wet coats when we came into the room needs some coat hooks
The bed was made up to be a king size wich was very comfortable etc. The room was perfect for a couple, large with large bathroom.
