Pros +
- The room was of an excellent size. The bathroom was a wet room which was great. The pub side of the building was clean and tidy. I cannot say enough about the staff. Every one of them tried to please us to the best of there ability. Extremely pleased with there efforts.
- The location was spot on . Clean tidy rooms and staff were very friendly.
- Excellent value for money, good location and very friendly staff. The room was plenty big enough for 2 adults and 2 children. The evening meal was very nice and again fantastic value for money. Would definitely stay here again.
Cons -
- The quality of the food was good but could have been better with a little more care and attention to detail. The room was cold with a cold bed, there was no instructions on how to alter the heating / aircon. The shower curtain needs to be replaced with one that reaches the floor so the rest of the floor can stay dry when you get out of the shower.
- The choice of drinks on a Saturday night in the pub were not great, no cocktails or hot drinks. And the food took a long time to arrive despite it being g fairly quiet .
- There was nothing negative about this accommodation at all.

Room was ready for our 2:00pm check in. Room was perfectly clean, and the bed was very comfortable. It was very convenient to have the pub there, for ease of obtaining food and drinks. The staff were friendly and helpful. Room was serviced on a daily basis during our three nights stay.Plenty of free car parking available, which was a great help. It was only a moderate drive into Whitby Town centre for what we'd wanted to do.
Within half an hour of our arrival I found that one of the bedside lights wasn't working. Despite the very helpful efforts of one member of staff, he was unable to find a suitable replacement bulb. After reporting it again on the second day, I was advised that it had been passed on to Marstons head office, who would have to send someone to deal with it. Really!???? Staff on site are unable to change a light bulb! ? So, I spent all three nights of my stay unable to have a read in bed. ? The TV was very small, not any bigger than my PC monitor at home, and so I was not able to easily read the Sky News ticker whilst lying in the bed. Whilst I don't expect Sky Sports or other premium channels at this price, the set was not even HD, which in this day and age is pretty unacceptable.. ? Absolutely minimal amount of bedroom furniture, no chests of draws, or anywhere else to store cloths etc, so spent three nights living out of our suitcases. ? Also, VERY small bedside tables.
Comfy beds. Quiet. Friendly staff.
A distance from the town. Breakfast not included.
Convenient, free parking, easy check in.
Rooms a bit dated but comfortable and clean.
It was a good location for exploring Whitby. The staff were very attentive, particularly Phil and Kirsty.
I had booked 2 twin rooms but booking.com had secured 2 double rooms. Also I understand from our booking that breakfast was included. It wasn't.
Breakfast choice was good. Room clean and bed comfortable.
We didn't have breakfast, has the evening meal was a let down. So we decided not to risk another meal and went out for breakfast .
The pie you promt leaves a lot to be desired. The pastry was dry and hard. The veg looked to have been cooked a while and kept hot , when it was presented didn't look at all appetising ,the mash, stodgy .
Room was clean and beds comfortable had a good nigh sleep
Choice of menu is poor and does not cater very well for vegetarian or non Alcohol based meals Breakfast -bad experience , could not get as basic as scrambled eggs . My wife's breakfast was a thin layer of avocado and nothing like we expected . To make it worse it came with bacon when we did not ask for it (we do not eat pork) and when we mentioned it was simply taken off rather then Replace with a fresh meal not exposed to the meat
Loved our stay at penny hedge staff were all lovely really clean and comfortable breakfast was really nice
Room was brill, Clean & fresh, The guy table waiting Saturday afternoon/ Sunday breakfast was brilliant & made our stay more pleasant,Sorry didn’t get his name but made our stay
Short staffed unattentive from entering & trying to order, Breakfast was a bit like being in fawlty towers got food on plate that we said no too, Toasted poached eggs & bacon, Turned up not toasted on soggy bread, Got other toast ourselves, Was more comical than anything else.
Location was good, staff was good
There not enough clothing storage, like walldrobes draws
Clean bedrooms, friendly helpful staff. Close to whitby harbour and attractions. Evening meal and breakfast worth the money
Specifically requested twin room well in advance and request not met. Unclear who was reapensible either booking.com or penny hedge, unable to change rooms so had to stay in double bed although not ideal (due to party set up)
Location and parking
Not very well run, rooms were cold.
Nice room and breakfast facilities
The price of breakfast was just an absolute fiasco. Got an email to check in and tried to book breakfasts (no child option) rang customer service told you can pay on day at the same price. Checked in to find it was more expensive (but you get a free child breakfast) attended breakfast and was told you have prepaid, checkout out no issue until i was driving out and flagged down by the manageress to say ive not paid. absolute amateur's. Made to do walk of shame back to card machine. I will never ever go back to that place or Marstons.
The location was only a 30 minute walk into Whitby harbour. The pub was right next door. The staff were helpful, although they all seemed very stretched and busy.
The room smelt really musty. It was very tired and dated and the electrics kept turning off. There were hairs in the bath and the water pressure was so low it took ages to fill the bathtub. The shower was fine though. The pub next door was fine the first night but had run out of most things on Easter Sunday and the service was very slow. We weren't seen to take our orders for at least 30 minutes so we left before ordering. We didn't stay for our second night as the whole experience was unsatisfactory.
Good location and free parking with a friendly on site pub/ restaurant.
All good but slightly noisy as room was road side
It was clean and tidy, Shower was nice and hot which I liked and the beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was yummy & a good selection of choice.
Only grouch was the Tv in the rooms are rather small…
Location
Dull rooms , no natural light and very basic.. very understaffed … wait for food / bar ridiculous. Clientele very rough … bar man had to ask someone to stop swearing .. not good at all
