Pros +
- Fantastic location and views
- Nice big room with fabulous views over Whitby harbour and the piers
- Great location, lovely and clean hotel. Excellent breakfast
Cons -
- Not an issue with the place itself where parking is not possible - nearest parking 5-10 minutes away.
- No car parking but our car was ok in Church Street car park about 5 minutes walk away.
- The room above us was incredibly loud, I think it was a staff member as the loud footsteps started about 2am and went on until 8am. Very very loud and going up the creaking stairs. Kept us awake all night sadly

Room was very clean and had everything you could need. Staff very friendly. Great location and a very tasty breakfast.
friendly staff, excellent breakfast, lovely location
Beautiful, clean room with a scenic view. Very good value for money. Excellent location in Whitby.
Shower was not cleaned thoroughly, as there was still hair remaining in it from previous occupant.
Good base to explore town and area. Espresso machine excellent.
Paying for parking and having to walk c500m with bags. Lack of storage space in room.
Everything about our stay was excellent....we have stayed here twice within 2 months. We opt for a sea view room which is fantastic. The property is literally 30 seconds walk away from the 199 steps. The rooms are spotless, the staff are polite and helpful and the breakfast is great.

Bathroom radiator on all the time. Unable to turn it down
Close location to everything. Lovely traditional pub.
Nothing to not like with the property it was really good. It advertised fresh fruit for breakfast and there wasn’t any. The only yoghurt they had was toffee.
Food and view
Room 5 got all the noise
Room with amazing sea viewsLovely Breakfast particularly appreciated fresh fruit salad Friendly staff
Was quite cold in the room.
The pub itself was lovely, cosy and nicely decorated. The room was beautifully decorated too with a really lovely bath in the room as well as a nice modern bathroom with an excellent shower. Our room had a private entrance and was facing the quayside which was perfect. The bed was so comfortable with the best pillows I’ve ever slept on in a hotel. The food was absolutely delicious, we had a starter and a main for our evening meal and a cooked full English breakfast. All were very tasty.
There was nothing that we didn’t like about the property.
Myself and my dog loved the fantastic location. The beach is on the doorstep. The room is very modern and clean. The bathroom is very large and immaculate. The Seaview room is amazing. The domestic assistants have done an amazing job with there very hard work of keeping the place pristine and comfortable. They deserve a lot more credit. The staff at the Duke of York are very pleasant and helpful. I shall be booking back with this hotel in a few months time. Kind regards. Tracy and Sadie
I would of liked Check out to have been at 12 pm instead of 11 am. This is my only gripe.
The room was lovely especially the stand alone bath. It was lovely and hot too.
Nothing really, it was a little slippy walking down to our room.
Clean, food was very good, excellent location, overall good value for money.
We have had lunch in The Duke of York several times so it was first choice when we decided to stay overnight in Whitby. Cozy, comfortable room with great views of the harbour from our room. Addition of a decent capsule coffee machine was appreciated. Best to book a table online from their website for evening meal if you plan to eat there in the evening. Staff were very helpful.
