Pros +
- The bed in the Cavendish room was extremely comfortable and I did sleep well, Tracy is very welcoming and helpful and Pickle the dog is very sweet and cute. Tracy did refund me for the night we didn't stay (originally booked for 2 nights) But I changed our plans and the booking was non refundable on booking.com which was most unexpected and appreciated.
- We love it, I think its the fourth time I have stayed there. There is something about the place, its very old with original beams so dont forget to duck but so charming !! Lovely cafe/bar downstairs excellent breakfast, try the bacon, sausage, egg and cheese toastie, superb !!! Great relaxing in the garden with a coffee in the morning. Definitely will be returning.
- Perfect central location. Clean and comfortable. Management very welcoming and responsive. Charm!
Cons -
- The floor is extremely uneven and I've not long since had surgery so I struggled to move around comfortably, also the macerator in the bathroom is crazy loud. We would've loved breakfast on the Sunday but the cafe is only open Tues-Saturday disappointingly as the food looked great. There was party going on downstairs which was very loud, it was mentioned that there was a party later, but I hadn't quite anticipated so much noise :/
- The room was cramped
- Closed on Sunday and Monday not mentioned when booking

It was expensive for a one night stay and breakfast was not included
The room was cramped
Close to the town
Closed on Sunday and Monday not mentioned when booking
Friendly and informative staff
Shower head, replaced it myself, hope appreciated by next client
This is our third pleasant stay at Painters. The venue is very convenient for the town centre and the station. Staff are helpful and professional at all times. The accommodation is excellent value for money. We intend to stay again.
Main window was difficult to open.
It’s was local and right next to the town
The noise from a private party kept us away all of Saturday night. Did not stop playing veryLoud music till 11 clock at night . Then the noise kept us up.till half 12 it’s sounded like they were cleaning and putting back furniture. Then I got to do a really long drive back to the north the next day.
Lovely cosy little room. Nice and warm. Clear and easy entry with lock box. Great location.
Slight downside was the noisy macerating toilet and high step into the shower.
The bed was the most comfortable I have slept in ,The room was spotless ,very quaint decorated style
The stairs were a bit narrow ,and opening hours are a bit strange for the cafe below ,closed Sunday and Monday . Fortunately we didn't need breakfast .
Room and bedding was pristine Shower was spotless and good pressure and hotRoom was warm and comfortable and quiet Would definitely recommend Host was friendly and helpful
Quality linen and towels. comfortable bed and quality duvet. room warm.
lack of simple toiletries . Staircase difficult for elderly. Lack of on site parking.
Location was perfect as was performing at the theatre
All closed up by 6pm Saturday so no breakfast available Sunday morning which local people informed us was exceptional!
£85 per night without breakfast is not a stay I would book normally.
The whole building is starting to look tired, no plug for the sink so a cold shave was the result.
Bad
The room was dirty, with cobwebs and did not match the photos displayed on the internet. The experience was so bad that we booked into another hotel.
Location & the Bed was super comfortable!!!
No staff in the morning No food available under impression they did bed & breakfast .
Location was good, the room was clean however it had a huge beam running through the room, my husband sadly banged his head he now has a lump and black eye , we are both in our 70,s there was no breakfast as the place was closed we were not told this on booking
Very noisy, due to my husbands injury we left at 10.40 pm we DID NOT STAY THE NIGHT
Quirky and very central with parking outside
The windows were not properly double glazed so it was exceptionally noisy from continuous traffic so we got very little sleep. It spoilt our stay. The plumbing was strange in that it violently boosted when the toilet was flushed or taps were turned on.
Bed comfy
Room small and low. No parking
This was our second stay at this older property near the centre of the town. The accommodation was clean and tidy, access via a narrow staircase may be problematic for some with limited mobility. The staff were most attentive and helpful. We intend to visit again in the future.
