    Pros +

    • We really liked this Inn (not a large bar area, so not noisy), how it is internally decorated throughout, its layout plus the very peaceful location. Could not fault our stay there.
    • The location was perfect for our Two Moor Way Walk. The Hotel has a lot of character and as it has just been taken over we wish the new owners lots of luck. The food was very good and we enjoyed our stay.
    • Wonderful staff, wonderful accommodations

    Cons -

    • We feel that the price £94 for one night was a bit high. A fairer price would be £80 - June 2021. Reason being it needs some work done on the plumbing in the bathroom and compared to other B&Bs/pubs in Devon of a similar standard.
    • Would like to have stayed longer
    • Cooked breakfast was adequate

One of the nicest places we have stayed ( and been fortunate to stay many places) - just really liked everything about it - the warmth of the staff , the quirky fun comfortable interior design , the comfortable quiet bed/bedroom the food - a very good experience all round !

Would like to have stayed longer

Friendly staff.Very clean.Tasty breakfast, lovely choice of food for buffet.

Sadly the home grown bacon didn't match up to expectations - more fat than bacon unfortunately. But definatley would recommend, and would stay again.

Comfort and good food in splendid isolation.

The “mix-up “ about the last evening’s food bill. They sent a message to say we hadn’t paid when we had.

We really liked the room, it was not big but it was lovely and cosy with a very comfortable bed and had everything we needed. We also loved how friendly the staff were and enjoyed chatting with them. Our dinner - we both opted for the rump steak - was absolutely delicious and really hit the spot after a long day walking. Probably one of the very best steaks we have had out so big compliments to the chef.

Breakfast was a good sized plate of food, not overbearing like some breakfasts can be and whilst we did like most of our English breakfast we both agreed that the bacon and tomato were overcooked and the sausage was not to our taste buds - however we would not want this to put people off staying here but instead would like the Exmoor Forest Inn to use this as honest feedback.

Lovely staff. Decent food. Slightly too expensive for my taste. Very comfortable rooms. Earplugs recommended.

Quite noisy due to music in the bar (Though this was turned off before 10pm). But the movement of neighbors and the sprung doors remained very audible.

The location was beautiful and convenient for walks of varying distances and accessibility

There was nothing not to like!

Room was very clean and well maintained although a little warm for our liking, but we opened the window and it was fine. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Food at both dinner and breakfast was excellent.

    10JanePosted on: 3-22-2025

Exceptional food & service. Interior design & decoration was of very high standard.

Accessibility for people with mobility issues would be difficult - no lift

    8AlexPosted on: 3-10-2025

Ambience, decor, comfort, food, service all lovely.

Room was very small, probably smallest room I have ever stayed in. Overpriced for the size of room.

    10GemmaPosted on: 2-24-2025

Very attentive and friendly staff. The food was incredible and reasonably priced, we had steak and it was perfectly cooked! The drinks weren’t expensive either.Room was spotless and had all facilities required. Nice comfy king size bed too. Location is beautiful, especially if you like walking! We will definitely stay here again.

The only issue at busy times would be parking availability.

We had a great stay, room 3 was lovely. The decor and furnishings throughout the Inn are all very well designed. Dinner and breakfast were too-notch. The ribeye from their own farm was right up there with the best steaks I’ve ever eaten. The surprise dessert plate for our 38th wedding anniversary was a lovely touch. It’s so nice to find a place that is privately owned and well managed, with great attention to detail.Staff were really friendly and efficient too, and communication from the time of booking through to the day of our stay was excellent (including a local weather warning on the date of arrival).

The bathroom would benefit from some shelving for all the stuff my wife brings along. Room 3 (and presumably several others) is right above the restaurant, and could get noisy on busy nights. This wasn’t an issue when we stayed as a large party of diners all went home at 10pm.
