About
This 17th century former coaching inn is set in the historic town of Berkhamsted, and features luxurious boutique-style rooms with iPod docking stations and private bathrooms. All rooms at The King’s Arms are decorated in a mix of traditional and contemporary design, each room is individually decorated and furnished, and named after a character from Graham Greene’s novels. Rooms offer luxury toiletries, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. The central point of the elegant new restaurant is an open plan charcoal grill. Aged steaks, fresh fish and the best of local produce feature in an innovative menu throughout the day across breakfast, lunch and dinner. The stylish bar and lounge area offers a diverse range incorporating local real ales and fine wines, as well as champagne and cocktails. A bar food menu is available all day, and the bar is open until midnight on most week nights and until 1 am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Pros +
- Good location
- The food & restaurant area was really nice, laid back atmosphere & really helpful staff! The breakfast was filling & reasonable for the price!
- Friendly, helpful staff, great food with plenty of gluten free options, historic old inn on Berkhamsted High Street, characterful room with oak beams etc. Excellent location for shops, bars, restaurants etc and beautiful Chiltern scenery and walks in the area.
Cons -
- I stayed in a room across from the restaurant & as soon as I opened the door I was met with a heavy smell of smoke. I spoke to a member of staff who was very apologetic & had the room cleaned. I went back to the room after & the smell was still there, after spending a restless night I woke with a sore throat from the smoke. I wasn't happy at all. I was offered a reduction in price, I felt it should of been free & a free breakfast! The room really needed some care & attention it felt really unloved!
- The room I got was not like the pictures, I was in a separate building out back, the bathroom had no window so it was a bit damp smelling. The room faced into a courtyard and there were gaps around the door blind so I didn't feel totally private, and tried to not leave my things in view of the door and window while I was not in the room.I overpaid for the room.
- Shame there's no parking on-site but can't be helped due to busy high street location etc. There are plenty of restaurants and pubs etc within easy walking distance as well as local walks so not essential to have a car while staying at The King's Arms. There is a station at Berkhamsted too. More fruit and some yogurt would be welcome as part of the breakfast menu.

Nice room but really noisy - didnt get to sleep til 2 am each night
Great position Friendly Staff Immaculate Ironing facilities Comfortable Highly recommend The Kings Arms Great Wetherspoons next door too, added bonus Enjoyed our break
Windows in room, bathroom window would benefit a blind Bit more security for back rooms would be good Maybe exit doors to be kept locked But trivial things, my personal ideas, Did feel safe and relaxed Great Stay Thankyou Kings Arms :)
Breakfast: very good menu
1. no on-site parking; difficult when "disability access" rooms offered;
Large room , location centre of town , fantastic staff .
Mini fridge ?
Location was excellent. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
The room was very noisy. This was until 4am. Staff were aware of problem.
Comfortable and spacious room. Great food and staff, exceptionally well cooked breakfast.
Dinner
Difficult control on room heater cracked hand basin
Liked the venue itself, really pretty outside and I like the interior of the building, so I was looking forward to a relaxed stay there. I know the food from experience (as I am local) is good and I enjoyed my breakfast. Staff were friendly
The room looked tired. It was VERY noisy with pub guests- people were talking (very loudly as the evening wore on) outside my window from the moment I arrived at 6pm until they were moved inside at 11pm. Then at about 11.30/midday other guests came back to their rooms, and the heavy doors were loudly left to slam quite a few times int eh space of 45 minutes or so. In the morning at about 8am the talking outside the room began again. I wasn't asked how my stay was when I checked out, so I didn't express any of this as it felt perhaps like they knew or didn't care.
Great location and staff fantastic, Spacious room
Dated, basic, a bit dindgeyroom, could do with an update
Location, staff were very polite.
1 of the 2 wall mounted radiators in my room did not work.room wasn’t warm enough. Smallest, most expensive sausage roll ever.
Very friendly and welcoming staffBrilliant breakfast
Pillows not great but rest of the room and shower very good
The room was large and the food in the restaurant was delicious
The carpet is old, holes in it, stained. The lampshades look moth eaten. Bed was lumpy on one side with deep round crevice in one part. The towels are grey from wash but supposed to be white.
room quite largegood choice of breakfast options
there is a fish smell in the stair well and corridors and whilst i appreciate that the rooms are close to the kitchen, its quite unpleasant and they need something to neutralise this.bathroom whilst large could do with updating as the sink didn't have space for toiletries and you need to be a contortionist to reach the toilet paper
The breakfast range is excellent and cooked by a chef in front of you.
The parking is an issue. Its quite a long walk to the multi-storey car park and, although possible, overnight parking is a bother.
