    Cons -

    • The bar, restaurant and below the accommodation had a strong unpleasant smell. It had clearly been a remarkable hotel but is very tired now
    • The weather
    • The heating wouldn’t turn off so the room was like a sauna. The shower was filthy with visable mould and grime all over the door. One towel for two people and one coffee to share

Characterful building, nice spacious room, attentive staff, good food.

The bathroom in our room was a bit "tired".

Staff were lovely, room was huge.

Breakfast menu needs healthy choices, Hotel is okay but needs modernising .

It is situated in a quiet location. The two staff that we did see during our one night stay were pleasant.

One of the toilets was out of order, probably due to the drainage system, as the corridor leading to the rooms absolutely stank. It is a very tired looking hotel, which requires major uograding in all areas, especially the bedrooms and bathrooms.I think they have staffing problems, and the concierge was also the barmen.Breakfast didn't start until 10 am. Luckily there is a very nice cafe 1 minute from the hotel. They ooen at 9am. So, if you're looking for an early breakfast to get on the road early, forget it.

The location and the bar and restaurant area

It was stinking. The corridors in the hotel section were revolting the smell made you feel sick. The whole bedroom area was dreadful

The location is fantastic and the rooms, with the exception of the kettle, were clean

There was no hot water on the first morning, at all. This meant my family were unable to shower and the staff were aware of this - arguably they shouldn't be taking guests if there are boiler issues. The kettle was also really unclean so it didn't feel like the guests wanted to even make tea.I've approached the hotel for a discussion but had no reply.

Breakfast was freshly cooked as per order, comfy bed and plenty of space. Good location

    Mould around taps in bathroom

Location was close to familyMembers, it was cheap and right on the common which I love.

Shower didn’t work and I needed to get it fixed, the bedroom door was hard to open, the smell in the hotel was a little off and it felt old and tired.

    Comfy bed

A strange smell about the whole place, including linen and towels. Very much like a deep fat frier. I wondered if these are used a lot in the pub kitchen downstairs

Spacious room, attentive staff, quiet location.

I was greeted by a very friendly gentleman at the front desk. He asked for my room preference, and made sure I knew how to get to my room and how to find where to get breakfast. He let me know when the pub would start serving food after 6pm. The food was excellent, fresh and tasty, very quick service. The lady that looked after me was lovely, very friendly and made sure I had everything I needed. The room was very nice, I found it charming any cosy. Breakfast was also very good, well worth it, I definitely recommend it. Will be back for sure!

I can understand why other's say the hotel and rooms are a bit dated, not sure if they want something built in the last 5 years? The bathroom could do with some updates sure, but all in all no other negatives.

    Good value for money

We hadn't checked out but just went for a walk and came back to relax only to find the.maid in the room, the bed being re made and room.cleaned, although we still had an hour before check out time. It could do with updating but price is suitably reflected

    The location and breakfast menu.

The room had a very old appearance and is in desperate need of redecoration. When we arrived the cups hadn’t been cleaned properly and the kettle had a broken lid.

Staff were absolutely fantastic and very friendly

Shower was rubbish and room very hot

    6JunePosted on: 12-27-2025

The bed was clean and comfortable and though the rooms are rather dated we found it perfectly adequate for our stay

Its a very old building so in need of major updating. Hopefully this is something being planned

We arrived Xmas eve night and lovely warm bedroom overlooking the devils Punchbowl. We always stay here when visiting daughter and family few miles away. Lots of space in car park. Freshly cooked to order breakfast with good choice. I don’t like buffets so ideal for us.

    Everything good

    2ChrisPosted on: 12-26-2025

The room was warm, that's the only good part.

Pretty much everything and in particular was staying Xmas eve, having breakfast there and not one person wishing you happy Christmas even when that was said to them. Dismal.
