- Beautiful country house
- The building is pretty cool, our room was very clean, the breakfast was good and the staff were friendly.
- Beautifully renovated with all modern conveniences. Charming decor and setting.
Cons -
- Expensive food
- The rooms were cold. Given the historic status of the building I expected more authentic interiors and they lacked warmth. The dinner wasn't great and quite overpriced.
- All good.

Comfortable bed, nice decor - clean
Had a nightmare before I’d even arrived. Phoned the hotel several times during my 3 and a half trip down. The phone was never answered - left two messages and kept phoning during the trip as I wanted the hotel to book a taxi for me on arrivalas well as ask questions about their proximity to Glyndebourne. There is only one phone to this 4 Starr hotel and they do not answer it!When I finally arrived, an indolent girl on reception was sitting next to the phone - ignoring it as it rang!! I complained and told her how stressed I was that I could not reach the hotel and basically she made up excuses and acted as if I was the problem. She has a very bad attitude! They should not employ a girl who was clearly not trained.
We had a very comfortable one-night stay. Place was fautlessly clean; staff attentive without being obtrusive; we appreciated the additional touches of beautiful, individually designed suites with quality furniture and furnishings, books and free newspapers. Food was excellent.
I would have liked to have seen fresh fruit on the breakfast menu, and a garnish of some vegetables or fruit on our evening shared platter, which was otherwise very good quality.Bathroom shower had a flaw in the design but it wasn't a major problem.
Spacious room, pianist, meals, breakfast , gardens lovely and attentive staff
I think the carpet on second floor could be replaced...
Hotel and grounds are beautiful, hotel was very clean, breakfast menu had great options and the food was very nice, staff were extremely helpful.
We ended up locked out along with other guests, and a call had to be made to the hotel to let us in, this was just before 23.00We had been out for dinner locally on the Bluebell Railway
We absolutely loved Horsted Place - beautiful locaction, polite and helpful staff and very tastefully furnished and decorated.
Loved everything. Breakfast was very tasty, not the biggest, but delicious and good quality. Evening food was exceptional. Staff were very attentive, polite, well trained and professional. Our room, a junior suite, was beautiful, very comfy beds and lovely bathroom. Hotel had character, charm and history, with beautiful gardens and views across fields and golf course.
Can't think of anything that could be improved.
The staff were extremely professional, the breakfast was delicious and the room was very comfortable.
A fridge would have been good.
Excellent staff and lovely house with beautiful rooms.
Wine was overpriced.
Lovely location, warm and tasteful decor. Nice cocktailBar.Very friendly, warm and helpful staff.Food was excellent as was wine - and so nice to have a good breakfast served and no buffet
The staff were extremely helpful, the venue was beautiful- very tastefully decorated. Breakfast was perfect!
Nothing!
Location is excellent if you like golf or country walks!
The whole experience was utterly rubbish, from being greeted by the lady on the door talking to someone from kitchen staff with a handful of dirty plates and to be left standing waiting for them to finish there conversation with no hello or anything, the lift was broken so had to carry our bags up the stairs, room was massive but really run down ,tv controller didn't work but by this point I couldnt be bothered to complain thinking it couldn't get much worse, was told food stop being served at 7.45 was the next completly unacceptable suprise forcing us to eat out ,on arrival back we were greeted by two staff looking out the window at us and upon entering asked whether we were staying here even though she had checked us in and saw us leave,we wanted a drink so went to the bar to yet again being asked were we staying at the hotel even though she had seen us enter!!we asked for 2 old fashions and with a huge grimace she got out the ingredients of how to make them,we went to the completely dead lounge and sat there talking quietly as we were the only ones in there and our drinks arrived and were almost undrinkable but at £15 i just wanted to drown my sorrows at this point,we played chess as there was no music,no tv and had to put logs in the fire to stop it going out,,,Enter steve who honestly was probably the best pat of it ,really nice guy and asked us if we wanted another drink to which we asked for two of the same ..he looked at us and asked us how to make them to which he tried his best and they were pretty decent..
The breakfast and evening meal were very good. Our room was large and very comfortable
Our shower was difficult to control temperature but in fairness someone came to the room and explained the controls after which it was okay. Some notes on how to use the shower would have helped.Wine prices seemed extremely high.
Stunning location service food its all perfect.the little gem of East sussex...Highly recommend plus you have an amazing pianist on fridays, staff are so friendly and listen to your needs, Ivana at reception and Adam are so professional and friendly..Waiters and lovely lady at breakfast so discreet but there if you need anything..I am a regular traveller been there a couple if times, its a GEM.
We have stayed here before and always enjoy our visits. It has been refurbished since our last visit and is very nice. We enjoyed good food and a wonderful room on our two night break
Can't think of anything
Location was lovely and suite very comfortable and clean.
We had to seek out staff when wanting pre-dinner drinks. Also be nice to have nibbles with drinks. Top up of glasses during dinner not offered.
My partner and I love staying at this hotel, which is only around 10 mins from our home. The location is beautiful, calming and quiet. The hotel itself is tastefully decorated and with kind and attentive staff. The beds and bed linen are super-comfortable and even the smaller rooms tend to be a decent size, with the superior rooms being very spacious indeed. The food is usually excellent and always served with delicious bread with creatively flavoured butters. The cocktail menu also features some delicious and creative drinks. It makes for a lovely break for us to go to Horsted Place to escape the madness of family life! The hotel has recently jigged things around and put the dining room where the drawing room used to be, doubling (I would guess) the capacity and making a more spacious and light dining environment.
For our taste, both our mains at dinner were a very over-salted on this occasion. The night we stayed, they had also run out of the Duck and the Côte de Boeuf, leaving almost no other choices than vegetarian or fish, for the whole of the remainder of the menu (starters/'small plates' and mains). The menu therefore seemed a little lacking in variety and we noticed all three other couples selecting from the menu at the same time as us, in the drawing room, were having lengthy discussions as to what to choose - and not because there was too much choice :). It would have been great to have had a bit more variety, by including some additional meat, poultry or game options to choose from. On check-in, we were told that breakfast would be served until 10:30, but when we showed up in the Morning Room at 10:10, were told that the chef finished at 10, and could we please order quickly, as he/she was waiting specially. We were grateful to him/her for doing so, but it would have been preferable to be told, on check-in, that the kitchen closed at 10am, rather than 10:30, and we would happily have organised ourselves accordingly, in the morning.
The breakfast was fair. The location was good. The building and our room was lovely. However, the lift was not working, which made getting up 2 full flights of stairs difficult for both my husband and I. We specifically booked this hotel because it had a lift. That was disappointing.
Lift should have been working or information of no lift should have been evident when booking.
