- This hotel really did blow us away, not just because of how luxury and beautiful it is but also because of how amazing every single member of staff that we encountered were, even just passing a staff member in the corridor you would receive a lovely smile and a hello. The restaurant was equally wonderful, again from the service to the food, everything was a 10. Our room was beautiful, the best we have ever stayed in, and the huge bathtub was just a bonus for an evening of relaxation. Everything was immaculate. It was nice to find out about the school while we were there too, that seemed to make it even more special knowing that a lot of the staff are students there, we wholeheartedly believe they are all amazing. We cannot wait to come and stay again.
- Good location and beautiful rooms
- Fantastic dining room staff.Spotlessly clean room.Lovely expensive soaps and lotions.Beautiful building
Cons -
- Not that many free parking spaces and if the carpark is full you have to pay to park in the uni carpark
- Bathroom in room felt a bit rough, very clean and functional but you could tell it had been badly repaired
- Rooms too hot to sleep in but windows open. There are lots of fans but this seemed excessive to us in winter.

Staff were very polite and professional

Lovely hotel with attentive staff. Even basic rooms are good. Very good restaurant and comprehensive breakfast.
Rooms too hot to sleep in but windows open. There are lots of fans but this seemed excessive to us in winter.
the room was massive and well furnished and the bathroom was luxurious. I would definitely stay here again.
Good sized room, warm and comfortable ,good bathroom and facilities in roomExcellent staff ,good food andbreakfast
No seperate bar from resteraunt, and isolated .
Absolutely amazing ! The staff were wonderful! I actually forgot I was in the UK- I’m not used to such warm hospitality. I’ll definitely be back over and over again. A truly truly lovely place with beautiful grounds and great food .
Only slight niggle was good wasn’t outstanding for dinner but it was good and I enjoyed it,
We loved Wivenhoe house. The staff were lovely especially Lionel. The surroundings are beautiful as are the grounds. Close to the town and other amenities xx
There isn’t anything at this time.
We travelled with our pet Border Collie. The hotel supplied a bed, food bowls and a small welcome pack for our pet. Much appreciated by him. The staff were friendly and helpful and the facilities were clean and modern. All in all good value. The professional staff of the Hotel train the students from the Nearby University. In fact the Hotel is in the University of Essex grounds. This is a lovely hotel with nice facilities, but not totally dog friendly.
We travelled with our pet Border Collie. While the hotel supplied beds food bowls and a small welcome pack, the dog was not allowed into the brasserie of the adjacent bar which meant that we had to eat dinner in the lounge or use room service for which there is a £5 tray charge. There was a bar in the lounge but this was closed. This is a lovely hotel with nice facilities but the "off limit" areas were a problem for us and we would probably not return.
It’s a beautiful house in lovely grounds. The attention to detail is wonderful and it feels very grand
Unfortunately we were booked in when there were a number of Christmas parties taking place so there was very limited service in the restaurant and no bar
Comfortable room, friendly staff and good food.
The sound proofing in the old part of the hotel could be better. Unfortunately, the guests in the neighbouring room were very noisy.
lovely looking place
curtains were ripped and scruffy, the mirror had smudge marks over it,the bed sheet had old dirty marks and the coffee table had what looked like old bean juice over it
Everything! Was so spacious and the staff are amazing! Room service was exceptional!
Very lovely stay. Perfect location for the campus. Staff were so welcoming and my room had a balcony that was a very welcome bonus. Bed was very comfortable and the food was delicious. Would definitely recommend and will be staying again.
Friendly, very helpful staff, lovely room and views, the right temperature (!), excellent food, super bathroom and accessories. Also, they made my dog very welcome.
Lovely manor house with fantastic staff in nicely kept grounds.we had Sunday roast there and it was absolutely delicious as was the breakfast the day after. We stayed in the Gooch suite and it was fantastic.
Fairly pricey if I am honest, you can get Manor House’s with their own gyms and spa’s for around the same price elsewhere!
Staff are friendly and helpful. Room was spacious and comfortable, which some nice extras (coffee machine, fresh milk). Location was quiet and pleasant.
The staff were very kind and helpful particularly when I asked for a change of room due to a Christmas party.
An earlier time for breakfast would have been helpful as unfortunately I had to leave before breakfast started.
Great food, huge rooms and bathrooms. Very comfortable.
