Pros +
- Privacy, clean, kitchen.
- My room was a dorm which was very comfortable. It was nice to enjoy the outside benches as well.
- Simple comfortable student accommodation on campus and en-suite
Cons -
- Could have a few dishes glasses plates in kitchen. Even disposable. I left a nice glass.
- Noisy room when people were also in the same hall. There was no cutlery in the common kitchen. It would have been nice to have a few items stocked so I could have had a yogurt in the morning without trying to find a spoon.

All OK
very basic room, as expected for what I paid
Minor gripes, No cups or kettle in the room, I saw other reviews so brought my own. I was only down for 2 nights visiting so this room was OK for my needs.
Easy access. Close enough to city but no noise.
Fire doors bang close.
Good vibe around the campus. Staff very helpful once they had been located and contacted.
There was a really unpleasant smell in the kitchen. The kettle in the kitchen was disgusting having been used by someone to make pot noodle. The mattress was a bit lumpy.
Very convenient for me to get to the ferry in Harwich in the morning. And on the day I stayed it was easy to get to London. And it had definitely the best price!
During the break at University there is no real choice for something to eat.
People were friendly and car par is available
The room was tiny and in need of renovation. It was dirty and outdated.
Cheap and cheerful we were visiting the uni so was the perfect place for us to stay. Mattress wasn’t the best but for one night was doable. Room was nice and warm.
The room and bathroom were clean and the accommodation was well located. Check-in was easy.
There were no instructions regarding wifi as was promised. Unfortunately as I am not resident in the UK I was unable to use the telephone number provided to phone the reception and it was late at night.
On arrival one room was left unclean from previous occupants with bloody towels and rubbish. This room had been later replaced. However, on the following day someone received the key from one of our room and tried to get in at around 11pm. Booking.com advertised rooms with breakfast but we were told on arrival no any breakfast. Generally the accommodation was very warm but extremely tired.
Extremely tired rooms, very very noisy, disorganised, hugely uncomfortable beds. You won’t even find a glass or cup or even any single type of cutlery, absolutely nothing, zero.
This is the third time i have tried to complain about my experience with Booking.com at this facility. The staff that helped me were fantastic. However, they were unaware of my booking and i ended up in a single bed above a student flat, which were having a loud party for the entire night. This is not what i signed up for. I am an academic and i was meeting a colleague the next morning, my sleep was terrible due to the noise and incredibly uncomfortable bed, as well as the very late night due to the staff not being aware of my booking and having to sort me something late in the evening. AWFUL!
Noise. NOT the bed size i paid for. Lack of booking at the destination.
Pleasant
No welcome pack in room as I was told there would be, no soap in room.A kettle would be much appreciated.
Well positioned to stay in the Campus. The room is large enough for staying a few nights, there is a kitchen but I stayed only 1 night so I didn't try it. It seemed clean and properly furnished. Staff at the information center was really helpful.
The bathroom was like on ships, with the shower directly connected in the "main floor" of the bathroom, without proper separation.
Lovely location - Essex Campus with nice views from the room. It was really quiet, there's access to a large kitchen. En suite shower room . Collection of key fob was easy - staff were really lovely. Bed was comfy considering (more than I expected) room was clean and kitchen too. Free parking nearby.
It is a student room, so basic in terms of comfort. The kitchen is great in terms of fridge/oven/microwave but there is absolutely no crockery/cutlery etc - so not even a teaspoon, which is hard work when you are just staying one night. You have to walk all the way down the valley to get the key fob, then back up to the building. No lift. All fine for me but worth knowing.
Spacious basic accommodation, simple but unbeatable price with a free gym session included.
The university signposting is not the best, and because of some road closures it took a bit of effort to find the place. University did warn me and sent a map, but it was not as good as sending for example a screenshot of suggested route around roadworks.
The room was perfect for me, with plenty of space, warm radiators, comfortable bed, nice desk to sit at and a nice ensuite shower room. There was no noise or disturbance. There were bicycle parking areas everywhere, which was good for me, as I cycled there from the Station. I could let myself in and out at any time with a fob key. The shared kitchen was ideal, with 2 fridges, a microwave, hob, kettle and sink. I never saw anyone else in the kitchen while I was there. It was right next to my room, so very handy. I didn't realise there would be such a big campus leisure area at the University. There were three bars, lots of different eating areas, cafes, a grocery shop, gym, sports arena, theatre...you name it. It was like I was in the centre of a town. The Wivenhoe Park grounds were beautiful, with two lakes and it was a pleasure to stroll through the Park.
The only thing I wasn't quite prepared for (though they did say so in the info) was that there was no crockery or cutlery....not even a mug or teaspoon; nor any pots and pans etc. However, I gather this is normal in student accommodation...students are expected to provide all their own utensils. I didn't need pots or pans as I prefer using a microwave oven for hot food. I did bring a pint of milk and some tea bags but should have brought a mug and spoon as well. I did manage to get a wooden spoon and disposable cardboard cup from the campus shop. No big deal, but just be aware that these things are not provided.
It was lovely and warm in the room, had towels, soap and toilet roll. The bed was really comfortable.
Really dated, needs a refurbishment and a paint job. The bathroom door was in a bad state- falling apart, wood and paint hanging off and looked awful!!! Picture attached.
I like to stay within campus and quite place.
Lack of lift and bed needs replacement.
No breakfast.Room was very basic.
I paid for parking when it was meant to be FREE!
